“Absoloute GEM!!”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

We booked Rum Doodle (formerly Braemount House) for our first wedding anniversary the weekend of the 25th may to 27th. From the moment we booked the owners couldn't have been more helpful, with our booking confirmation e-mail came a list of reccomended resturaunts one of which we booked for our second night, it couldn't have been more perfect ! We arrived at the B&B early evening on friday welcomed by the very smiley gentleman owner, who showed us to our delicious room on the first floor (Jungle Room) I was then greeted by a huge flower arrangement, box of cumbrian hand made chocolates (mmmmmm) and a bottle of prosecco on ice, all arranged between my wonderful husband and the fantastic owners. Because the weather was soo beautiful we decided to take the prosecco out onto the patio, which was no problem at all and we were even provided with some nibbles ! Our room had a very comfortable king sized four poster bed, crisp white bed linen, tv with dvd player (large selection of dvd's in the hallway), immaculate bathroom with bath house (local brand) wash products (smelled lovely), we also had a small table and chairs in the room to enjoy our tea/coffee with Home Made short bread biscuits (yes homemade !!!!). Such fabulous touches you don't see in the bigger hotels. On our first evening we walked into bowness, around a 10-15 minute stroll (depending how fast you walk, oh and how many pubs you call into on the way there ha!) We went to a couple of the bars central to bowness then made our way back to the B&B well oiled ! On our first morning we were woken by the amazing smells coming from the kitchen and were well and truly ready for the breakfast, we both opted for the full cumbrian breakfast, there was also the selection of cereals, fresh fruit salad, and toast with fantastic home made jams and marmaldes ! Freshly squeezed orange juice, apple juice, tea and coffee. When the breakfast came my husband scrunched up his nose as if to say there isn't enough here, well, half way through I could tell he was struggling ha ! It was simply delicious no wonder it has won an award ! Completely stuffed we rolled back into bowness and decided to work our breakfast off at the pitch and putt, deciding to do only 9 holes (as it was getting substantially hotter !) it was good fun for only £6 cheap activity for a couple of hours. We then decided to spend the rest of the afternoon lazily sitting in the sun in the beer garden of The Hole In'th Wall pub fab olde worlde pub, reasonably priced drinks and lovely bar meals.
Our Second night was spent at The Postillion as per the reccomendation of the B&B owners, brilliant meal will definetly be going there again ! Too full from our 3 course anniversary meal we went back to the B&B to watch a dvd and chill out for the rest of the night. That night we were asked to fill in a form for the following mornings breakfast, as the hotel was full we would be having it in our room at a time we required. In the morning we sat at our table with all of the beautiful sash windows open enjoying the uk's brief summer enjoying our blueberry and banana pancakes and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon mmmmmm ! Couldn't have been more perfect.
We would like to thank the owners for our fantastic weekend stay, your attention to detail really made it special we will definetly be back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautifull !

Thank you so much for that wonderful review! We do pride ourselves on attention to detail here at Rum Doodle, Windermere and we are delighted you enjoyed so many of our special touches. Of course, having fantastic sunshine during your stay really helped you enjoy our small patio to the full! We're very pleased also that our advance restaurant recommendations proved so helpful, as the area gets busier it's really important to book the place you want.

So my partner and I decided we needed a good break from the bustle of the city and decided to go to windermere. When we got to the station, we were shown directions to the B&B and We reached there in not more than 7-8 minutes on foot. This corner house looks more apealing from outside than any of the other B&Bs i saw, with its stained glasswork and lovely little patio at the front. The reception is lovely too. its Its got really beautiful rooms, cosy and wonderful with lots of character. Each room has its own unique identity! My partner loved the breakfast too. Gregor and Emily are really friendly people and the whole trip was well worth it.
We lived in the suite, which has the most amazing view of the nearby hills and now that the sun sets late, it looks absolutely delightful during late evening. Im really excited to book this place for my parents sometime soon. Also, my partner insists he can see a gun embedded into the walls of the house you can see from the suite's living room (room 9), so we might have to go back to settle the dispute for all.
Definitely a better option than any 5* hotels!

Room Tip: Choose based on what is of importance to you. If you like the idea of a four poster bed, choose betw...

Our attic suite at Rum Doodle, Windermere is proving very popular at the moment. We're so happy you enjoyed the sunset views - not so sure about the gun though, it's certainly not something we've noticed before! It would be lovely to welcome your parents to Rum Doodle and to see you both again soon. With Egyptian linens and an award-winning breakfast we do try to offer quality that is on a par with some of the best local country houses. Very best wishes!

We booked a long weekend away from the 25thof May to the 27th for my birthday. We were greeted by Emma as soon as we arrived offering us some delicious chocolate brownies and tea which were much appreciated after our 3 hour journey. The new Rum Doodle guest house was absaloutley gorgeous, with really nice decor and lovely open hall way. The room we stayed in was room 6 and was decorated and furnished brilliantly. The attention to detail was supberb with lovely robes to wear and shampoo and conditioner to use if you wanted to. There is a tv and dvd player with lots of books to look through if your staying a few nights longer.
The room had a bay window in which you could look out over the hills of windermere and the added bonus of having a table for two so we could eat our breakfast and enjoy the view in the comfort of your own room.
The guest house is only a ten minutes walk from Windermere and not much further to the lake Bowness.
The breakfast were gorgeous with fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice. Emma and Gregor also looked after me by making me a lovely vegetarian breakfast.
I would definately recommend this to anyone as it made my birthday weekend extra special.
We will hopefully be returning again soon

So glad you liked the recently redecorated Room 6, with its kingsize four poster bed . The big bay window in the room is a lovely spot for breakfast - and our vegetarian sausages seem to be ever-increasingly popular. We're delighted you enjoyed your birthday stay!

We booked a long weekend visit to this hotel on 17th May 2012. We arrived mid afternoon and were greeted by the owner of the hotel and some much appreciated homemade cake and tea. It was absolutely lovely to have this offered after such a long journey! We were made to feel very welcome from the very first step we took into the hotel and having been shown our room (9) we were left impressed and excited about our stay. Our room was the top floor suite and consisted of a large double bedroom with stunning views, a cosy lounge with tea/coffee, TV/DVD and more amazing views, and a spotless bathroom with bath, shower and gorgeous toiletries from the 'Bath House', Ambleside (well worth a visit). The room was equipped with bath robes, fluffy towels and homemade biscuits! Everything was to the very best quality and it felt very luxurious staying in our very own suite. The hotel facilities were plentiful, including a library of local interest books and maps, DVDs to borrow and postcards/info leaflets. Breakfast was a real treat with a menu consisting of mouthwatering and satisfying breakfasts including blueberry pancakes, traditional cumbrian and smoked salmon and eggs. The service was of high standard and the food was excellent. The hotel owners Emma and Gregor were both helpful and knowledgeable about the local area and were so friendly.
Parking was provided behind and next to the hotel and the location was perfect as it was an easy walk in Windermere and Bowness. A short drive away was Ambleside and the hotel was well located for easy access to the main Lakes area.
My only minor negative point was that the shower was a little lacking in power and was quite hard to keep warm....having said that, the bath was perfect and so much more relaxing!
It is very difficult to fault anything about the hotel and we shall most certainly return again very soon. The Rum Doodle is somewhere we will remember with fond memories and we hope others enjoy as much as we did.

Room Tip: Room 9 is the top floor suite and is very spacious and private.

Thanks so much. It was lovely to have you with us on the day we rebranded to our new name, Rum Doodle, Windermere. We're so glad you enjoyed all the accommodation's styling and facilities - apologies for the water pressure, sometimes on the top floor it's not as strong as we would like and we're looking at different solutions to remedy that. Hope to see you again soon!

Braemount (Rum Doodle) is a fabulous B&B! It has all the chic of a boutique Hotel but the warmtH and friendliness of a great B&B! Emma and Gregor are professionals to their fingertips and their attention to detail is fantastic. The house is v tastefully decorated and the breakfasts are wonderful. Its walking distance to both Bowness and Windermere so location is great too! Lovely stay for a special occasion. Cant recommend highly enough.

Celebrating my wife's 50th, we were lucky enough to find this delightful B&B perched within easy walking distance of both Windermere and Bowness. What struck us when we arrived was the warmth of atmosphere; the decor is tasteful without being fussy or affectedly chic and the Victorian rooms are light and airy. The proprietors were welcoming, helpful and incredibly patient, given that we were a party of ten and (although past our rock n' roll years) were quite demanding. Full English breakfast for example was served to us all at the same time, at the same table and with freshly squeezed orange juice (I spied the owner fighting the squeezing machine), something that many major hotels would fail to manage. Comfortable beds, parking and complete conviviality, who could ask for more?

Room Tip: We stayed in room 9, it's actually a suite.

And what a wonderful group of 10 you were! It was lovely to host your special celebration and we're delighted you felt so at home during your stay here at the soon to be rebranded Rum Doodle, Winderemere. Freshly squeezed orange juice is a must for us and our award winning breakfast just wouldn't be complete without it. We look forwards to welcoming you all again!
