"What a beautiful Hotel"were my first words on arriving at Holbeck Ghyll. Set on the hill side overlooking lake windemere the views were simply stunning.

On entering the hotel the welcome from staff was friendly and personal giving the first impression that our every need would be taken care of. We had booked for afternoon tea and wow! What wonder that was, beautifully presented sandwiches, three tiers holding cakes of all varieties and a selection of loose teas to choose from. The staff set our table in the window where we had earlier stood and commented on the stunning view while being shown the hotel facilities. This was a lovely personal touch and was made without any request from ourselves. It showed me the staff were paying attention to each and every thing that was said to them.

Our room, Peter Rabbit Lodge (Lodge 1) was located separately from the main hotel (only a minutes walk if that). It was just as the picture on the hotel website, clean, warm and cozy with large doors leading to the balcony which revealed yet another stunning view of the Lake District, the lake, rolling hillsides and wooded area below.

Now to the food. We booked the gourmet menu which offered canapés, amuse bouche, 6 courses including a wonderful selection of cheeses. What a purely amazing meal it was. Gorgeous food presentation with flavours and textures that made you mmm! with delight. The restaurant staff knew every little detail about the food they were putting in front of us as if they had created the plate themselves.

On returning to our room the bed had been turned down and a hot water bottle had been place benith the duvet and was gently warming through. After a good nights sleep we woke to a frosty but sunny morning, which as you can imaging looked picturesque from our balcony view.

Breakfast was take in the dining room with a wide range of options, full English, American pancakes and bacon, eggs bennedict and the list goes on. As expected the food did not disappoint, quality produce turned into a mouth watering delight.

Over all this was a wonderful break, set in beautiful surroundings, offering amazing food and made extra special by the staff who showed pride in the industry they work in. Thank you.

Room Tip: Select a room with a lake view it will not disappoint.

We stayed last week for my wifes birthday. What a treat! The staff were both courteous and friendly. We had a room with a Lake/Mountain view which with the recent snow on the mountains was a view to die for. The room was spotless with all the refinements of a top class hotel. We had the evening meal which was exquisite and the service superb. Could not fault it.

Room Tip: We chose a Lake view and stayed in Room 3. It was superb

The hotel is excellent, magnificient views, comfortable rooms, fantastic food, provision of "additional home comforts" and the staff are superb, well trained, cheerful, friendly and helpful.
Our one night stay was memorable, we will definitely return.
The dinner was one of the best meals my wife and I have eaten, and we eat out a lot,it compared favourably with a recent meal at the famous Fat Duck.

Room Tip: Chose a room with a view of the lake

We took my partners Grandmother here for her 80th birthday. The staff were helpful friend, discreet but not uncomfortably subservient (I quite often find staff to be like that in some hotels and don't enjoy the experience because of it) Beautiful views over the fells and lake Windermere. We really enjoyed taking afternoon tea in the lounge.

The welcome was warm, the location and hotel superb, the food and wine excellent, staff friendly and helpful. A wonderful experience. Customer service is the modern buzz word, but at Holbeck Ghyll, management and staff go so much further. The whole thing is based on the experience from the moment you arrive. Wonderful! Sincere thanks to allot Holbeck Ghyll
