Stayed for one night for a birthday celebration. This hotel would not be my choice but as family dictated stay it gave me no option. The hotel is primarily for coach parties so the guests are mainly older . The room was clean but short on toiletries, toilet paper and very short on teabags milk etc. Breakfast is self service and fairly basic often running out of choices . The whole hotel has had a recent refurbishment but unfortunately there is too much grey everywhere which makes the place look very gloomy. On saying this the staff were very polite and the dining room staff went out of their way to help us celebrate the birthday we attended.

My partner paid for a superior room but it was anything but! The ceiling was patched and badly painted. The bathroom was only three feet wide and the shower was a trickle and only warm. When my partner complained they immediately refunded a third of the cost. The hotel knew it wasn't " superior " but were hoping we wouldn't complain. The hotel advertises food all day, yet when we tried to order on Saturday afternoon there was no food available. We dined on Saturday evening and it took 25 minutes for someone to take our drinks order. They also advertise a number of malt whiskies but they only had one in stock. We won't be using this hotel again

Room Tip: Don't attempt it

Booked a 2 night stay at this hotel the the Trip Advisor website. The cost for a twin room with breakfast the week before school holidays was £132 per night. We were also hit with a car parking charge of £8 per night and as there is no other parking nearby you have no option but to pay it seems, even if you have a disabled badge as we do.
For the price paid my expectations of the hotel were good to great, but this was not quite realised. The room we had (26) a twin, was a good size, with en suite shower, toilet and sink. The bed, linen, pillows and towels were spotlessly clean, but on closer inspection the room was very tired looking, a little grimy in places and should have been better standard for the price paid. We get a better standard and pay half as much at premier inns.
On the plus side the breakfast was delicious. All items cooked perfectly, red hot and constantly refilled as people arrived. Cannot comment about the main meals as we didn't eat one but the restraunt was busy both nights.
Extra big plus was the staff at this hotel
Although only a few could speak good English service was prompt, polite, with a big smile and nothing seemed to be a problem for them. By far the hotels best asset.
So in conclusion. Overpriced, expensive parking and tired looking. Good location for nearby attractions and lakes, bus stop and train station 200 yards away, great food, impeccable service and comfy, clean beds and bed linen and towels.
Would we go again? Yes, but only at a reduced price more in line with the prices of nearby hotels.

Just back from a 2 day break at this hotel with my wife, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. First the good bits. Hotel outside and public rooms impressive. Bed was very comfortable. Staff were generally friendly, apart from day receptionist who seemed to be annoyed when asked to explain anything. He was efficient rather than friendly when we arrived. Mixed up our booking. Took a bit of time to agree with him that we had not booked a room for the adults and another for a 12 year old child (our granddaughter is 2; we did not have a 12 year old with us). Also, gave us wrong bill when checking out.
Son and daughter-in-law had a very nice room with a view of the town after complaining about first room given. Ours was a basically a box-room at back of hotel with a double bed and a very small table a small wardrobe. View of embankment a couple of feet from they window. It smelled strongly of disinfectant when we arrived.
Restaurant shut at 8:00pm. When we asked for some cheese at 8:30, we were told chef had gone home!. Breakfast fairly average.
Finally, I thought parking charge was for a local car park, but was £8 per day to park in their own hotel car park (that's a first for me -outrageous).
No internet in rooms, only in bar area - and did not work on second day anyway.
Overall. this could be a very good hotel, albeit 45 minutes walk from lake, however, we came away with the feeling that guests had ton fit in with the hotel procedures, not the other way round. At the price we paid, I had expected more. Not great value for money.

A nice hotel in a very prominent position overlooking the town with the lake in the distance.the hotel was very clean and our standard bedroom was very comfortable. Car parking was available if pre booked at 8 pounds per day.the hotel had a comfortable lounge and bar and the food was excellent..

Room Tip: Front facing room overlooking the town and lake .
