“Our secret wedding made so special by all at the Langdale Chase!!”
Reviewed 24 August 2012

We started arranging our very small wedding (just the Bride & Groom!!) back in Jan '12 and ever since we started planning the Hotel have been fabulous. Every e mail was answered, (even the silly things you think you need to ask!!), everything was organised so well, we could not fault anything, from the room we stayed in to the personal service by every member of staff. The Director Thomas, and his wife Clare very kindly agreed to be our witnesses, and Andrew ensured everything ran like clockwork on the day. Lorraine at Bowness Wedding Photography took our pictures and she was fantastic. She knew all the best places for the pictures, and also went the extra mile for us.The setting is perfect, with the most fabulously kept grounds and our room was beautiful overlooking Lake Windermere out of both windows. The location was great for getting to nearby places. As for the food on our wedding evening - it was wonderful. We ate in the Small Sitting Room where we married, and were personally served by the staff who made the room very romantic with candles and soft music. What we loved by the time we left (which was only a stay of 2 nights), was the fact that we felt we knew the staff really well - they are like one big family in the Langdale Chase - and that makes a massive difference to the way you feel when you stay here - a part of the extended family. If we could up the Trip Advisor score to "beyond the call of duty/outstanding/exceeding all our expectations" we would!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 26 which had fantastic views, enhanced by being on a corner. No noise was heard fro...

It was lovely to read your lovely comments regarding your secret wedding and I know myself, Thomas and Clare were all so pleased that we were part of it. I hope all of the family understood and were so pleased for you when you returned home.

After 19 months of organising and 4 visits to the Langdale Chase Hotel we finally had the most amazing day of our lives on August 21st 2012 – Our Wedding.
This beautiful hotel and its staff have given us the most precious gift of wonderful memories and stunning photos of our wedding and a day that we and our family and friends will never forget. The food was gorgeous, the venue perfect and the grounds and views spectacular.
Andrew made us feel so special ensuring that our day was perfect watching over us making sure everything was running smoothly and everyone was happy. He even promised me sunshine for the wedding when it was pouring with rain and guess what the sun came out and shone for the whole day which made the boat trip in the evening a fab way to end the day. Andrew you’re a star!
A special mention must go to Albert who looked after us and our guests for the 3 days we were at the hotel – he was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for him. Albert we thank you very much for your undivided attention and Jon says get fishing ready for our return.
We must also mention Bryan Jones photography, The Flower Shop, Yvonne at Ambience and Beauleas cake studio who all worked alongside the Langdale to make our day superb.
I am writing this with tears in my eyes wishing I could turn back time but what we have been left with are the most amazing memories of a day we will never forget and a day everyone will talk about for years to come.
Thank you Andrew and the Langdale Chase you will always have a special place in our hearts.
We will be back!
Jon & Debbie

Room Tip: The Lake House is gorgeous.

This was our second stay at Langdale following our wedding in March 2012. As we have been together for 10 years, we thought it would be a lovely way to celebrate. Once again, we stayed in the boat house on the shores of Windermere and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We ate in the restaurant and the service the staff provide is to an extremely high standard without making you feel uncomfortable.

Thanks once again to you all and hope to see you again soon!

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in the Boathouse. It truly is a beautiful room in possibly the best location for a bedroom in the Country. The Langdale Chase team look forward to welcoming you back for many more celebrations.

We came here for our daughter's wedding in July. We took over the whole hotel and had the most wonderful time imaginable. On the run up to the wedding the staff were helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The day ran like clockwork - the staff were attentive, helpful and courteous and everything fell into place - our daughter and son-in-law were so happy with the whole package.
Despite having a wedding the previous day, the rooms were beautifully clean and presented throughout and all our guest were delighted with their accommodation and had nothing but praise for their Langdakle experience
The location is absolutely stunning! The view across the lake is amazing and the ideal setting for beautiful wedding photos. Not to mention the grounds of Langdale itself which are extensive and well kept, running right down to the lake edge.
I cannot thank Langdale Chase enough for making our daughter's wedding day so memorable.
Thank you Langdale!
Lesley, Paul, Laura and Chris

Room Tip: Room 26 has the best view of the lake!

We got married here on Thursday 9th August on a beautiful Sunny day. Ben looked after us so well, we couldn't have had a better day! Our family and friends were so impressed with the Hotel, the fantastic backdrop and the delicious food. We wouldn't change a thing about our Wedding Day. We also booked the boat trip which was wonderful, with the staff from the Hotel serving pur champagne and canapes. We chose the Langdale Chase for our Wedding because of the fantastic reputation it has, and we were extremely happy that we did. We would recommend this venue to everyone.....

Called in to the Langdale Chase for lunch we were really lucky that the weather was good and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the fantastic view.
The staff were very attentive and the sandwiches were good and well presented. We had a quick look in the Hotel and although it has been around for many years it all seemed to be in good order. This hotel would definitely be considered for a stay in the future.

We stayed in this hotel (room 6) as part of a family wedding deal. I thought it was strange that we were charged about £200 for the room before we’d even seen it. After the wedding ceremony we went to the room and were utterly shocked by its quality (or lack of). Holes in the pillows, frayed carpets, half the light bulbs not working, no shower (a small squat bath that only a small child could bathe in), stained sheets, wallpaper peeling off the walls, dated wiring, fabric coming lose on one headboard, another headboard completely dislodged… We complained immediately and a few things were replaced – however, on finding further problems, my wife and son decided they would stay elsewhere for the night and I negotiated a reduced rate of £80 for myself as family representative. I managed about three hours sleep in between the disco ending and the carpets in the corridor being hoovered at about 6.30 am. I complained again in the morning and left an inventory of problems filling a side of A4 paper for the manager who was nowhere in sight during our stay. To be honest, if I’d paid £30 for the night in an urban, 1970s B and B I may have not felt the need to complain so vociferously, but to be charged £200 for this standard beggars belief. I note the manager has replied rather patronisingly to other comments on this forum. Really, he should spend the time examining these reviews and acting upon the problems highlighted. A complete overhaul of the décor and fittings is required in the first instance, in both the bedrooms and in the public areas of the hotel (which are extremely dated); a workable shower for use before/after the wedding would be useful! The owners have a lot to answer for – raking it in while allowing guests to suffer like this. I wonder if they would be happy staying in our room for a night for £200. [BTW – when we drove by the hotel the next day, they were advertising rooms for £40 pppn – make of that what you wish.]

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.

In response to this review, I must say I am somewhat bewildered by some of the comments made, firstly the comments about half of the light bulbs not working, all of our housekeepers are meticulous in all aspects of their job and are trained that should a light bulb not be working they are to change it. The comments regarding dated wiring are something which is against the law and yearly we have to as a standard practice of Health and Safety in the workplace provide PAT testing to ensure all electrical items are tested to conform to stringent laws.

The bath is a corner bath with a hand held shower, and although with our 3 star rating we are only required to provide either a bath or a shower.

All of our laundry is prepared by a professional national company and is delivered in hygienically sealed packages, so it has left me somewhat amazed that stains have appeared on the bed sheets.

In our meetings with Bridal parities on the run up to their big days we talk to them about the allocation of bedrooms and advise that people with children or who go to bed early are placed in bedrooms away from where any disco is taking place so a problem like this does not arise, and our housekeeping team do not start work until 7.30am and then do not Hoover until well after 8.30, as they do the quieter jobs so as to not disturb any guests.

I feel hurt by the comments regarding, myself not being around during your stay as I was on duty that whole day and do not leave when I am on duty until I feel happy that the whole wedding party is happy. I called the guests through to the Baronial Hall for the ceremony; I greeted the guests with their reception drink and was on hand during the serving of the Wedding Breakfast.

The comments regarding the public areas requiring a complete overhaul, are somewhat astounding as in August last year our bar and conservatory had all new furniture, the bar also had a new carpet and a new bar top was fitted. Also earlier this year we had our Baronial Hall floor sanded and stained and also had a new carpet fitted in out Piano Lounge with new curtains also provided. In the last 15 months we have also completed a full refurbishment of our toilets and provided a disabled toilets so I am somewhat astounded by these comments. All of our rooms are subject to annual maintenance and our dedicated maintenance and housekeeping team strive to ensure the room is in the best possible condition prior to a guest checking in.

Finally the comments regarding the sign the following night stating the rooms available at £40.00 per person, was something as a last minute offer we put out, as due to the unfortunate weather we suffered, meant that it left the hotel very quiet and decided to put a special offer out for a selected few rooms only to try to see if we could pick up any passing trade.
