5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2010

We visited here for our wedding anniversary which was also Easter weekend. The location is fantastic, really central but quiet with a wonderful view of Lake Windermere. We stayed in the Buttermere room, not a room with an official lake view but it had a shared balcony which has a fantastic lake view. The room was spacious, clean and well decorated, the bed was large and very comfortable and there were complimentary bath robes. and the bed was turned down each evening. The bathroom was a little dated and needed doing up but it was clean and the Molten Brown complimentary bath products were lovely. We stayed for dinner, bed and breakfast and the food was truly wonderful, The quality, selection and taste were excellent, it's definitely a 5 star, compliments to the chef . On the Saturday evening they even had a pianist playing in the restaurant. Afternoon tea in the lounge was lovely too. Everything we asked for was accommodated. It may seem a little pricey but it is worth every penny and we will definitely be back to stay!

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at this hotel.
The staff were friendly and the service was well oiled and very effecient.
The food was mouthwatering (breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea). The only thing that let dinner down, was on the 2nd night the menu was almost identical to the 1st night.
The rooms are comfortable and the view from Ullswater was breath taking, the bathrooms were a bit dated but there was plenty of hot water with Molton Brown toiletries and big fluffy towels. The duvet and pillows were feather (which personally I don't like). The turn down service was a pleasant suprise, and the tea brought to you in the morning was welcome (perhaps easier to have tea facilities in the room?) My sister stayed in Windermere which was a much larger room with fantastic views too.
This hotel was perfect for us as there were 4 couples meeting up for a kid free weekend to celebrate a 40th birthday. We were able to go walking, have fine food, catch up and read the papers in piece!
Highly recommend this hotel

Have stayed here twice and so there must be something about it I like! The first time, there was a pianist in the dining room and I love that. Not the second time we visited though - only on Saturdays. The hotel was full but I can't really understand why, especially as it was in early March. The room was nice with that fabulous view and comfortable bed but when I went to dinner I realised this was no longer a place for me to stay. I'm sure it was the same menu as three years ago and I didn't much care for it then. The wine list leaps from £14 to £25 ish with nothing but French and Spanish in between. There was that hushed ambience in the room that betokened respectful appreciation - not sure why. Breakfast was nothing special with cool porridge and very resisitant sausage. I didn't find the staff very friendly - I think they were possibly understaffed. I love the house itself. It has some nice pieces in it. it could still do with a good coat of paint outside, though I thought more work had been done on the gardens since we were last there. We stayed at the Edwardian Crown and Mitre in Carlisle the night before and overall, I preferred it to Miller Howe though it has no reputation and is vast and even elephantine. Lunch at the Yorke Arms in Ramsgill on the way back - now that's good food !

Gave my husband a voucher for Christmas for a night at the Miller Howe, and just got round to using it. On arrival shown to our lovely room with a balcony overlooking Lake Windermere. Room spotless and comfortable. In the evening we went for dinner where we met two waiters ...one hungarian and one polish. They couldnt have been more accomodating and informative...a credit to the hotel. We had a fantastic dinner, each course was a work of art ! When we went back to our room for the night we found that not only had the bed been 'turned down' but they had even tidied the bathroom, replenished the toiletries and left a jug of water and glasses. After a great nights sleep a waitress bought us tea and coffee to our room. (this is instead of the usual tray with kettle etc in the room ) . We had a fabulous breakfast....so much choice !! and were sorry that we had to leave ! A fantastic hotel that we would recommend to anyone and look forward to returning to.

We stayed at Miller Howe with friends, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were beautifully furnished and immaculate, with wonderful views and a welcome change from modern, bland hotel bedrooms. We enjoyed having early morning tea / coffee delivered to our room, along with shortbread (much better than having a kettle etc in your room). The staff were very professional, and attention to detail in all areas was very evident. Hope to return at some point.

We selected this hotel for our wedding based on its location, stunning views, great accommodation, superb food and wine together with excellent service. We reserved the entire hotel for the day for our family and friends, all of whom without exception commented very favourably on all facets of the hotel. The manager Nigel and his team were responsible for making sure our special day was precisely that. Nothing was too much trouble. Having eaten in the hotel on several occasions we can recommend both the food and wine and all the accommodation was first class.
