Just back from a fabulous weekend. I booked the Coach House as I wanted something special for my husband's 65th birthday and wow - was it special! The other reviews are spot on, Jonathan and Caroline are brilliant hosts and the Coach House is really 5 star. The furnishings are luxurious and really stylish and the bathroom is to die for - it is huge and I'd love one like it at home. I spent ages playing with the LED light switches as I couldn't decide on colours and effect, so many to choose from. A really hard decision as to whether the super sized rain shower or the jacuzzi was better. I seemed to spend an awful long time in the bathroom trying to decide! As to food - gorgeous! We ate in the restaurant on the Friday night and the ambience, service and food was excellent. I agree with an earlier reviewer, the aniseed parfait is a taste sensation and divine - what a dish - congrats to the chef. The following morning we had breakfast served in the Coach House dining room. It's true, the breakfast fairies do come in whilst you're getting up and get everything ready for you. Had wonderful eggs benedict, served really hot and with gorgeous crispy bacon just like we love it. Really set us up for the day. We decided to have dinner on the Saturday night, my husband's birthday, in the Coach House. So glad we did. It was just so relaxing. Nothing was too much trouble. The candles and table decorations made it feel really special. Jonathan even provided an Ipod for us so we could enjoy music while we dined. Caroline served our meal - what a star! Brilliant service - discrete, yet friendly, and very professional. The birthday candle and decorated desert plate was a beautiful finale to a fabulous evening. Definitely didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay from both of us.

We booked the Windermere Room as it looked nice and modern on their website - it is a nice room but quite old decor. The rest of the building / main areas are really modern and nicely decorated so we were surprised that they have not completed all bedrooms to the same lovely modern decor. The bathroom in the Windermere room is large but again very dated. The shower is not the best and needs replacement but it did the job! The bed was very cosy. Breakfast was very nice and the salmon very fresh. They do evening meals but you have to let them know at breakfast if you want dinner - sorry but I HATE this!
If you are a restaurant and open to outside guests then you would not expect them to make a reservation in the morning so the chef can prepare - you expect people making reservations later in the day / or indeed last minute when on holiday! My plans when on holiday change by the hour and certainly if walking the beautiful area by the minute so why do I have to make a decision at 8:30am if I want dinner that evening with them?? Surely they can cater for weary walkers coming home at 4pm and deciding they will stay put for evening meal – time constraints are not good on holiday! So we didn’t eat there. However we did have a drink late evening, at least they were happy to come away from ‘Evening Meal’ time to look after their overnight guests.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your recent break at Cedar Manor.
We are just hoping to take this opportunity to pick up on a couple of your comments.

The Windermere Room has been refurbished in a more traditional style as it was the former master bedroom of the house, built in 1854, and we felt it should have a more traditional country house feel opposed to some of our other rooms which have a more contemporary feel to them. The room boasts a superking size canopy bed, bespoke hand-crafted furniture - made right here in Windermere, high ceilings, original window seat with stained glass window, plus all the mod-cons such as flat screen tv, dvd player, ipod docking and wifi.

Thank you for bringing to our attention a problem with the shower - its a brand new shower and we can now investigate and find out what's wrong with it, were weren't aware of any issues but now you have brought it to our attention we can get it looked at.

With regards to dinner; dining at Cedar Manor is generally regarded as a highlight for many of our guests, who make reservations with their booking to ensure we have a table when they require it. The only reason we suggest booking in the morning is to guarantee that we have a table in the evening when you do return weary from your day out. We regularly take non-resident diners and fill up during the day. Imagine if you were planning on dining, maybe its a special occasion, and you go out for the day and come back to find the restaurant fully booked. That is the only reason we suggest booking before you go out.

As a small hotel and restaurant, we strive constantly to provide the highest standards throughout and do welcome constructive feedback, which we do thank you for.
If you decide to choose us again, please contact us to discuss which room would suit you best - I have a feeling that it would be the Coach House!
Thanks again for taking the time to review Cedar Manor and we look forward to seeing you again in the not too distant future.

Best wishes

We have a house quite close to Cedar Manor but only discovered its splendid dining room quite recently. We'd often stopped and looked at the menu whilst passing by and eventually we decided it would be a good venue for our wedding anniversary dinner; no need for a taxi and within staggering distance of home. We've been back regularly since and it's now our favourite 'special occasion' dining venue for so many reasons too numerous to mention. However we must mention Jonathan and Caroline who treat all their guests with the same friendliness; not too familiar but you really feel you are with friends who care. The food is as good as anywhere we can think of and is not ridiculously priced considering the care and attention put into it. We've not stayed there but surely would if it wasn't so close. Altogether a special place. A pity we didn't discover it earlier but better late than never! We'd recommend it to everyone.

I went onto the Trip Advisor site and found this hotel. I am glad we booked, although it was only for 3 nights, we could have stayed for longer. On arriving we had a very pleasant and friendly welcome from Johnathan who explained where everything was and also about the area. The room was lovely with tea, coffee etc and the added bonus of fresh milk, none of the little cartons. Extra fresh milk was available if needed. Both room and bathroom very clean. At breakfast there was plenty of choice, juices, cereals, fruit, yoghurts and then a cooked breakfast and toast on request. We were served by a lovely lady called Rose who always seemed to know when to give attention and when not to. This hotel is certainly recommended and we will be very happy to return

After reading the reviews on Trip advisor I booked the Cedar Manor for our honeymoon weekend. I was not disappointed by my choice. Johnathan and Caroline are both fantastic hosts. We stayed in the Crinkle Craggs room and were very impressed with the decor and facilities in the room. The red petal love heart on the bed was a nice touch for our arrival. The bathroom was also as good as the room. We decided to eat in on two nights of our three night stay and had made the right choice. The menu was excellent, and the setting from having a relaxing pre dinner drink in the lounge to then being taken to your table and served with the most delicious food was a memorable experience. I cant recommend a specific dish because every dish was fab. However I would like to say the desserts were one of a kind and must be experienced by all who dine at the Cedar Manor. I took Caroline's advice on the Aniseed Parfait sweet and was taken back by the presentation and the flavours within the dish, the blackcurrant tagliatelle, homemade sherbert and popcorn were amazing. The breakfast was also first class, with variety for all. Overall a memorable experience and a one I would recommend to everyone. We will be definitely returning to the Cedar Manor in the future.
