We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of November after a few nights in Blackpool. I booked this hotel after reading the great reviews here on Tripadvisor. It was a surprise for my partner and we were not disappointed! After a scenic and nervewrecking drive over the 'Hard knot Pass' we found the hotel easily coming from Ambelside. It was mid afternoon when we arrived and were grasicously welcomed and checked in by Jonathon and shown to our room. I had booked the Coniston room. This wouldn't have been my first choice of room as the hotel was quite booked up it was all that was left. The room however did not disappoint and was extremely well presented and the views over to Windermere and the peaks were beautiful. We decided to make the most of the late autumn sunshine and go for a walk. Jonathon provided a great recommendation and a guide to get us to the Angel Inn in Bowness. We had booked dinner at the hotel which was absolutely fabulous. The crab cakes, venison and duck breast were all delicious as was dessert, great selection of local cheese's and the whole ambience of the restaurant. Great wine selection and finished with coffee. Breakfast in the morning was as delicious as dinner and the smoked haddock was excellent, though the full English looked equally as good. Jonathon and Caroline made the perfect hosts and we really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely return to this hotel. A special mention and congratulations for all the work that our hosts do in helping with the conservation of the red squirrels, truely a worthwhile endeavour, well done!
