Relaxing getaway at the Lake House. We took the Magic Moments Platinum package which at £570 you would expect something special and it didn't disappoint. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by excellent staff who couldn't do enough for you. The owner Barny took time to show us the recent refurbishments and and we noted throughout our stay he took time out to speak to all the guests. The Jetty Spa trail is innovatively thought out and very relaxing. Andrew the chauffeur was punctual and chatty which we liked. The food on the 7 course taster menu was Michelin star standard. My only negative was the drinks were on the expensive side, Overall a hotel with a difference and we will go back.

Room Tip: We stayed in Maud and the room was spacious with a tarn view.

It was June when we got in touch with the Gilpin hotel about booking the Lake House for my sisters wedding and from the off, I was always greeted by a warm and friendly voice when making initial enquiries and was soon dealing directly with Renato, who invited us from some afternoon tea with a tour of the house. We were not disappointed! Renato talked us through the details and Laurentiu, a man who we would be become better acquainted with later, gave us the grand tour of The Lake House. We even caught a glimpse of the owner Christine helping out in the kitchen as they were short staffed and for the brief 10 minutes we spoke to her we were immediately drawn to her humble and heart warming nature, not what we expected from the owner of such luxury accommodation. Afternoon tea was delicious, even the crisps were handmade and my mother and husband experienced what was the best coffee they had ever tasted. Needless to say, we booked very shortly after.

After 6 months of waiting we arrived at The Lake House right at check in time of 2pm where they were all ready, we were greeted at the doors, helped with our bags and we were all shown to our rooms. After settling in the whole family gathered in the lounge for some afternoon tea and snacks. Laurentiu was our main point of contact and quickly made it clear that him and the team were on hand should we require anything at all during our stay, a great reassurance that everything was in hand.

My husband and I had chosen to have a couples massage at the jetty spa during our stay, it was just over an hour of pure indulgence! The jetty spa in itself is a glorious piece of architecture. Hubby had chosen an Aromatherapy massage, I had chosen an Indian head massage and we would both have the treatments again if we could.

On the Monday night we had a fantastic evening meal which blew us all away, that was until we tucked into the five course wedding breakfast the next day. I have been fortunate enough to eat at some fantastic restaurants and the plating and taste of each dish at The Lake house was exceptional, a treat for our eyes and taste buds. The chef really did go above and beyond and truly took us on a culinary journey we all still reminisce about!

Wedding aside, the whole experience had been magical. Being at The Lake house felt like being in an extension of our home. There was no point where it felt we were restricted, uncomfortable or felt like we were missing anything. The Lake house really does provide something for everyone. What sets it aside is the care and attention taken by the team there and there ability to somehow always pre-empt the needs of the party as a whole.

I can't thank The Lake house enough for giving my sister and her new husband the wedding weekend they both dreamed of and for giving us all memories we can truly treasure for many years to come. Most importantly I can't WAIT to go back in the new year!!

Special thank you to Renato, Jenna, Liz, Laurentiu, Elisabeth, Julian, the wonderful chef and all the others behind the scenes who helped make our stay spectacular

(If anyone would like a detailed account of our experience at The Lake House there is an in depth story on my blog - http://sustravelstories.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/when-my-little-sister-announced-her.html - if you're unsure of booking hopefully this will convince you!)

I have just come back from 3 days staying in Harriet at the Lake House with my girlfriend. What a place and what a room.

We were picked up from Oxenholme by Andy who had us laughing all the way to the Lake House. We were warmly greeted by Heather and her team and shown to our room. Waking up to a full height view of the lake was a great way to kick off a day and when the weather came in it was so relaxing to sit in the windows reading whilst it snowed and rained outside. The decor and comfort of the room and the bathroom was exceptional and being able to sit in the main living room with an open fire was also a treat.

We spent an afternoon on the Sap trail which was very relaxing, finishing off with some champagne in the hot tub -a must do. We also spent numerous hours whiling away in the boathouse which has a fire, blankets and comfy sofas to relax on.

We really couldn't recommend this place any more. If you like fantastic rooms and open spaces with a view, unobtrusive but attentive service, this is the place for you. We will definately be back.
Matthew

P.S We saw some other rooms whilst checking out and they are all lovely, but Harriet is incredible.

Room Tip: It has to be Harriet. But if not we saw Gertie and it was really nice with a really cool bathroom wi...

Just returned from three nights at the Gilpin Lakehouse. We had a fabulous time, the Lake-house is amazing. We tried out the Spa, with a massage and facial, and relaxed in the hot tub and swimming pool, all overlooking the lake, The food is something else - breakfast was delightful in the conservatory and dinner - we had the tasting menu twice it was so good, do not know how they get such depth of flavour. The hotel and Lake-house are really comfortable and sumptuous and the staff, at both, cannot do enough for you. Everyone takes the time to make you feel comfortable, your stay memorable and make you feel special. Will be going back soon!

Room Tip: We stayed in the 'Maud' overlooking the lake and the country side, it has a shower but no ba...

It was my partner's 40th birthday and naturally I wanted something extra special - we have a three year old and needed a break! Needless to say we were not let down. Driving up the M6 we got very excited but nothing could prepare us for the pure beauty and tranquillity of what we were about to experience. Set in 89 acres of woodland, the Lake House took our breath away from the moment we arrived. We were welcomed at the front door by a very lovely lady called Liz, who instantly knew who we were, and made us feel right at home. Throughout our stay nothing was too much trouble. We were swiftly shown the fantastic spa facilities - which to our amazement were booked on a sole use basis. Their Spa Trail includes relaxation in the Superb salt sauna attached to their subterranean heated pool. Only one couple at a time - a true treat! after this you can have a number of relaxation treatments in their new Spa overlooking the very secluded lake. We went the whole hog and hot tubbed outside before returning to our room to rest before dinner. Oh and the what a dinner it was - we opted for the tasting menu with accompanying wines matched expertly. I can only describe this place as a little peace of heaven, and the fact that they don't allow children made our stay even more amazing. Thank you Gilpin. We will most definitely return and i'm not waiting until 'his' 50th!!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in Beatrice - a beautiful room with an area to relax and the biggest bath!

I have just spent the weekend at The Lake House after taking over the property for my Father-in-laws 70th with 15 other members of the family. We had the most amazing time. The Lake House is stunning every room is decorated with the most luxurious fixtures and fittings. In fact the bedrooms and bathrooms are the best I have ever stayed in. The food was out of this world, we chose from the Grill Menu on the Friday night and from the A la Carte on the Saturday and all was fantastic as was breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and a fabulous wine list too.
Sarah, Alex and Juan provided outstanding service from the moment they greeted us on arrival and led a lovely team of very efficient and friendly staff. The experience was very relaxed and the attention to detail was more than we could ever have hoped for. Among our party there were 6 children ranging from 1 to 6 and they have declared it as "the best weekend ever" a treasure hunt was organised for them and little extras such as bringing them bowls of popcorn whilst they were sat playing board games was just a couple of examples of how well we were all looked after.
The swimming pool is great as is the hot tub and the surroundings are a dream! I could go on and on......We are now planning our next trip to what is now One of our Most Favourite Places in the World!

I had a small intimate wedding at the Lake House in December. Every member of staff made sure that every single detail was taken care of. The quality of service was outstanding. They were attentive and helpful without being intrusive. The breakfast, lunches, dinners, canapés and afternoon teas we had there were all absolutely divine. The actual accommodation itself was beautiful. Each room was uniquely decorated and fully equipped with everything you could ever need. To top it all off, the views of the surrounding grounds from each room were breathtaking as was the private lake. There were two rowing boats that you could take out onto the lake as well as a heated indoor swimming pool, an outdoor hot tub, board games and many other things to keep you occupied. A great place to stay with the family - never wanted to leave!
A HUGE thank you to Liz, Lorenzo, Julian, Elizabeth and the rest of the team that looked after us, as well as Jenna who helped organise our special day.
Thanks again :)

Room Tip: All of the rooms were beautiful. The Harriet room has the best view!
