“another perfect stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2010

We had previously had an enjoyable weekend stay at Gilpin, in the main hotel. This time we stayed at the newly opened Lakeside House for 5 nights,,about 5 minutes away.
We had the Harriet suite, a beautiful room, with stunning views over the tarn. The room has every conceivable comfort, from very comfortable bathrobes, to fresh biscuits on the tea tray every day.Not that hunger is a problem! Afternoon tea is included at the Lake House, and we found that it was just right to fill the gap between breakfast and dinner. Transport to and from dinner at Gilpin is provided, this service works very well.Breakfast is excellent, as is dinner. As has been pointed out in previous reports, the menu does not change over the five nights, but on several occasions, by different members of staff, we were offered off menu choices, anything we would like to have. The Lake House has its own lovely grounds ,and we enjoyed various walks around the property.
We were lucky enough to have the place almost to ourselves for the first four nights, it was blissfully quiet, so it was a bit of a blow when more people arrived on our last night! it made it a bit noisier, but the team at the house are looking into getting the fire doors to shut more quietly, so that should not remain a problem for long.
A wonderful quiet stay, looked after by very pleasant and thoughtful staff, with good food, a room with stunning views, what more could you want? We will be back!

The service we received was warm and helpful, especially by Suzi and the sommelier, their knowledge is to be admired.
The classic room exceeded our expectations .... clean, very comfortable ... just perfect.
The location is picture postcard England ... stunning scenery.
What we liked best/least-
1. Our evening meal was a delight, however the location of the table was uncomfortable.
2. The sommelier was insightful/engaging - however a Romanian colleague we felt was slightly rude to him.
3. Breakfast was hearty, however one of the plates was not clean and not having breakfast before 08:00 made our departure difficult.

we booked a 2 night stay for our wedding anniversary and I can not find any faults! The room was on the 2nd floor and had views in all directions with a hugh bathroom. The staff were always very attentive and never overpowering. We thought it was lovely how Barney and Zoe found time to talk to everyone and make them feel special. The food was fantastic but on my next trip I would definately eat early as each morning it was a struggle to eat breakfast as we were too full from the night before!. We both had an Indian Head massage from Alex who I would definitely recommend. If there was ! downside it would be that there was no WIFI but we managed for a couple of days.

We stayed at the fabulous new Lakehouse suites and were allocated "Harriet" which has an uninterrupted view of the Tarn. A little more expensive than the others but the view was to die for!
When you book the Lakehouse suites it is like staying in a private (if very large) house rather than in a hotel. Breakfast was in the conservatory and the staff are extremely down to earth and friendly (They gave my gadget mad husband a tour of the adjoining state of the art kitchen!)
Unfortunately we didn't get to use the pool or hot tub as the weather was so good we didn't want to waste it by being indoors (it looked wonderful though!)
If you don't like stuffy hotels and equally stuffy staff look no further. We were spoilt for the whole weekend with wonderful food, service, surroundings and a chauffeur driven car to dinner and back. What else could you possibly want?

This was a return trip to Gilpin Lodge, having had a wonderful time several years ago. We wondered whether it could live up to our memories but we needn't have worried - it surpassed them. The hotel is family owned and run and the owners have a very strong presence, ensuring their guests are comfortable and well cared for. There have been lots of improvements since we were last there, lovely garden rooms with hot tubs (perfect with a glass of chilled champers) and we went to have a look at the new Lake House, where we have vowed to stay next time.

The food is all locally sourced and choosing was the only problem. Good service and we loved the new bar area - very modern but didn't seem out of place in the lovely old house. I spend my whole time wishing I could live here permanently, all the rooms are so elegant and there is always a friendly face waiting to anticipate my every whim.

We will definitely come again. A few days here and we feel as though we've had a week's holiday. Perfect for a romantic getaway.

we booked for a weekend break and found everything perfect with this hotel from the quality of the furnishings to the modern bar with airy opening onto the courtyard.
having previously stayed at the holbeck ghyll i can honestly say this was a far superior hotel including the quality of food (see holbeck review).
i can understand reviews saying that the service was to attentive ,but i dont mind a little pampering on a special weekend break.
