“B & B with a nice garden”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

We stayed here for two nights. Choose it because of the decor. Location is good with travellers with cars. As it is off the main road, it is very quiet & we can sleep well. We didn't have breakfast in house as they only serve continental breakfast. They offered us to go to Monties, a tea house at Bowness for breakfast with a much wider choices & a more flexible time, which is good for us as we woke up late. We took up both rooms on the second floor, Feel very safe. Owners tried to keep the place very quiet even their children are living together as well. Wifi not working too well & can be cleaner as well. Overall, I would still recmmend this modern decorated, off the main road B & B,

Room Tip: Both rooms are good. Even the one with external private bathrooms

Firstly, I do really appreciate for the house and room decoration. Nice view from the window of room and bathroom, beautiful living room and garden.

However, location is not too convenient, quite a long walk from the town centre and need to get a taxi or bus to the Winderemere railway station.

The wifi is not working property either. But the landlady tried to sort it out.

When we arrived at the house, it was around 11:30 am but the check in time had to be 3pm. We appreicated that the landlady allowed us to leave the luggages there. We wanted to sit in the living room to charge the phone (search the google map and traffic) and wait for the extreme heavy rain stop.

However, the landlady said it would disturb other guests who might come to the living room. This sentence was quite disapointed and made us feel not being respected, as we were also the guests instead of beggars. Then we were like `welcomed out of` the house and went into the heavy rain, standing in the middle of the road, freezing, and searched the google map. Obeying the rule might be important, but it is a guest house instead of the court. Condering the weather condition and caring for the guests` needs, especially a senior guest, which would be much more important, when you have the ability to do that.

It is very disappointing to read this review. The guest contacted us the day prior to arrival to say they were arriving early the next morning, we explained that although the rooms would not be ready due to departing guests until 3pm that they were welcome to leave their luggage and spend the day exploring.
The guests arived shortly after 11am having got lost and we had directed them to our guesthouse over the phone. We again advised that previous nights guests had just departed and that the rooms would not be ready until 3pm but that luggage could be left. This appeared acceptable to the guest who wished to use the lounge in order to charge their phones. We explained that we were in the process of servicing the house and apologised that we needed to continue with this while they were present. The guests remained in the lounge until after lunch and then left the guesthouse.
It is unfortunate that the weather was not at its best during their stay with us but we do feel that we made them welcome, explained things clearly and thought they had an enjoyable stay with us. It is unfortunate they waited until after departure to express their unhappiness and not making this apparant to us during their stay.

We stayed for 3nights over easter. Nice spacious warm room with a lovely bathroom. Friendly and helpful advice given recent snow. A great location with a short walk to Windermere or bowness on Windermere. It was a great surprise to find out we could have a full English for no extra cost down in bowness or a continental at the b&b. overall highly recommended.

Stayed for one night and absolutely loved it, location was great only a short walk. The room we stayed in was complete luxury, large double shower, the room is decorated to a very high standard. Had a perfect view of the garden. Loved the bathrobes. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room with fresh milk. Lovely warm welcome as we arrived. Would definitely stay again. Thank you oakthwaite for a lovely break.

For my 19th birthday my boyfriend booked the double, en-suite (with bath) as a surprise present. Upon arrival we were greeted by Debbie, we were made extremely welcome, she showed us to our beautiful room and booked a table for us at a local restaurant. Despite Debbie and her family living below, we felt totally comfortable! Oakthwaite is teamed up with a local cafe where they offer you a full english breakfast, orange juice, tea, coffee or a continetal breakfast. The next day, we checked out and were able to leave our bags in the communal living room as we trotted off to Monties Cafe...unfortunately the weather was horrendous and wouldnt stop pouring down and we were totally unprepared so Debbie kindly offered a thick, waterproof jacket for my boyfriend and a large umbrella. After breakfast we returned and needed to catch our train, Debbie booked us a taxi and done everything in her power to get us both to the train station on time. The trip away was a perfect present and I wouldnt hesitate returning! Thank you very much!!

Stayed in this wonderful B&B for 1 night in May (on the way to Scotland). The ensuite room we stayed in was facing the garden and was very spacious, clean and bright. Breakfast was amazing too. We really enjoyed our time in Oakthwaite and the Lake Disctrict and will definitely go back to Oakthwaite for a longer stay.

We stayed at Oakthwaite for a long weekend with another couple and would thoroughly recommend this B&B. A short walk away from Bowness, Oakthwaite offers 2 clean and stylish en-suite double rooms with TV/tea making facilities/robes/IPod dock and the essential hair dryer! Breakfast is offered either at the house (in a private sitting room reserved for guests) or there is a choice of walking down to the owners cafe, Monties in Bowness, which offers the best coffee ever. Even though the rooms are part of the owners main house, not once did we feel as though we were encroaching on their space and felt VERY welcome. Nothing was too much for the owners-Debbie even drove us down to the wedding we were guests at to save our feet in the heels we were wearing, booked us a table at the local pub for us and even made us tea/coffee in the evenings. A very reasonably priced, comfortable and welcoming B&B.
