Recently stayed for two nights during August.Great value for money considering you're right in the centre of the town.Room was small (No 5) but comfortable and clean.
Parking was tight but having been advised regarding same it was adequate.
Friendly staff, and the standard of food could not be faulted which was reasonably priced. We would stay at here again.

We have just got back from a 2 night stay in the Royal Oak Inn. After making a late afternoon booking over the phone with an incredibly friendly staff member, we arrived early evening. We got the last room in the house. The room was small but perfectly formed with on-suite bathroom. After unpacking our bags, we headed downstairs for an evening meal and a few drinks. The soup we had was out of this world followed by copious amounts of drinks. After a great night sleep in a comfy bed, we headed downstairs for an awesome breakfast which set us up for the whole day.
The Inn is in a fab location, near to the lake, shops and restaurants. With its own parking we could not have asked for anything more. The staff where really friendly and welcomed us warmly. We will be going to Bowness again and definitely be staying in the Royal Oak in.

I went here for a long weekend with my partner for our anniversary. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and clean. The bed was freshly made every morning and new linen and cutlery were set out on our breakfast table. The staff catered to our requirements which included a different variation of breakfast each day, which they didn't mind at all. Overall The Royal Oak Inn and its staff made our first trip to lakes in a B&B very pleasurable and we definitely intend to return their in the near future. Thank you for making our anniversary that extra bit special.

We booked this b&b for a romantic weekend away, so chose the most expensive room as we were swayed by the website promise of 'deluxe room with breakfast served in your room'. When we arrived, the building was covered in scaffold. On walking into the bar, it was as if it has been picked up from some sink estate and dropped into the middle of the Lake District. Not pretty. However, we went up to our room, waved at the man outside our window (a nice touch, but we were told that the building would stop soon) and had a look around. On going downstairs to register, I asked if we could havwe breakfast at 9am. I was told by the utterly unpleasant barstaff that breakfast in the room was not available. I queried this, as this was what I had booked and paid for, and was told that we could have breakfast in the bar or find somewhere else to stay. I considered this advice - it was 3pm on a busy weekend - and said that I would look around and come back to them in an hour. On returning to the inn, the owener had boxed in my car and refused to get out of the way until we had given him back the room key - despite the fact that we had not yet cancelled our booking. Hideous staff, hideous owner, not even the most basic grasp of customer service - I would not stay here if I was being paid, let alone the other way round! Honestly, don't do it to yourselves...

The Royal Oak in Bowness cannot be better located for all that the small town has to offer - no more than 200 yards from the water's edge of Windermere. The food, service and welcome are great - but if you fancy something different then there are a multitude of pubs, restaurants, cafes and bistros within a stone's throw.

The price includes a great breakfast (comprising egg, bacon, sausage, beans, fried bread, tomato, mushrooms, hash brown, toast, tea and orange juice!), an ensuite room (in most cases!) and an invaluable car park space - although you have to relinquish your keys during your stay in case the staff have to play musical parking spaces with the residents' cars as some of the spaces block other vehicles in!

The breakfast is served between the sociable hours of 9 and 10 and the pub guarantees last orders at 11pm to ensure all is peaceful for the residents by half 11.

We stayed in Room 2 with a huge king size bed, ample sized bathroom and big widescreen/flatscreen tv - although for some reason the tv only BBC channels 1 thru 4 with no sign of itv, channel 4 or five. But we'd not gone to the Lakes to sit in and watch telly anyway so it mattered little!!

Altogether a great little spot - location and breakfast the highlights - and all booked on short notice 2 days before we travelled.

Nuff said!
