We stayed for two nights at the Samling in January and had the gourmet tasting menu both nights with wine. The hotel was very warm, welcoming and comfortable. Above all the food was stunning -very adventurous, creative, beautiful to look at and above all the tastes were excellent. We left literally nothing on any plate. The staff were charming, attentive and courteous at all times. It was excellent. Thanks so much to all the staff for making our stay so memorable.

Room Tip: We had Lethera, which was on 3 levels and was lovely, but next time I think we would pick a room in...

We visited The Samling for lunch with friends, on a very wet and windy day. We were met on the drive with umbrellas and ushered into a very pleasant lounge, with a roaring log fire and comfy sofas. We soon forgot about the weather though it was a shame we couldn't see what must be a great view down Lake Windermere. Everything (almost) about the lunch was excellent. The only slightly discordant note was the rather annoying choice of piped music which seemed out of kilter with the general ambience. However, the service was very attentive, without being obtrusive, and the food just fantastic. The special offer of lunch for £25 is a real bargain. Wonderful.

We stayed at The Samling for two nights in January. The weather was appalling but the hotel was excellent. We took one of the junior suits which was spacious with a large bathroom and a double bed which, was three pillows wide, on a mezzanine floor. It was made even more homely by having a living flame gas fire which gave a nice glow on a dull evening.
The hotel lounge had a large log fire and the service from the staff was friendly and very attentive without ever being obsequious.
The gourmand menu is superb and is served with a pleasing touch of theatre. Some of the wine prices are quite reasonable.
Early morning tea, breakfast and dinner in your room are all complimentary but coffee and petite fours after dinner are a chargeable item.
We really enjoyed our stay and will certainly go again.

We stayed at the Samling for a wedding anniversary over a very snowy weekend and enjoyed every minute - tramp across the snowy hills followed by hot tub outside followed by candlelit bath in Tyan suite (with gin and tonics) followed by Cloudy Bay, spiced cashews and truffles by the fire followed by one of the best meals we've ever had (including vegetarian option). Special mention for sloe gin creme brulee - heaven.
The breakfast in our room overlooking the lake was superb and the service both unobtrusive and attentive.
Many thanks to staff and chef!

Room Tip: Tyan suite was lovely

Stayed at the samling with 3 friends. It was really fabulous. The hotel is small, and very charming. Open fires and big comfortable drawing room. There are about 8 rooms in the hotel and another 10 in outhouses. The rooms out of the main hotel are more contemporary- we had dovecote which had an eastern feel, a massive bathroom with a roll top bath , Ren toiletries and candles. And only a few steps from the hot tub. We took our own champagne and sat in he hot tub over an hour chatting and looking at the view over the lake while the sunset- bliss!!
Dinner was fabulous. Fantastic food and first class service. It could not be faulted. We had a bottle of white wine- people have complained about the price of drinks- £22 bottle wine and £4 a beer. I don't think that's too expensive.

We had a brilliant stay- I would definitely go back. We got a Sunday night deal £230 dinner, bed and breakfast for two. - you can't beat that!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main hotel. Book the hot tub for an hour- no extra charge!

We were booked in for one night on Sunday 20th January................we had been 14 months earlier to dine in the restaurant...but this time around we chose to stay over, and my oh my we weren't disappointed.................I was blown away with absolutely everything that was on offer to you as a guest and all the little extra touches you receive.

After perusing the website we chose to stay in TETHARA...........wow.................it's a room with a view.................3 big windows overlooking Lake Windermere, an area in which to sit and have a cup of tea/coffee, read the papers or drink in the views........the bathroom is lovely with the most amazing deep bath and lovely REN products available for your use..........we loved it!!!!

The bed is really comfortable and positioned so that in the morning you can sit up and enjoy your pre-ordered wake up drink of tea, coffee etc, whilst also watching the day beginning on the lake below.....................blissssssssssss!!!!!!

Everything that you think you might need whilst you're there........trust me it's there............robe, slippers, hospitality tray..............shoe shining kit, fresh fruit etc etc. We had previously tasted MIGHTY LEAF teas whilst at the Yorke Arms and were delighted to find a fabulous variety on offer for us to sample........to say we are hooked now, is probably an understatement!!!!

We dined in the restuarant choosing to sample the gourmand menu................it was amazinnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg.....from the canapes all the way through to the after dinner coffee and petit fours..................the service was lovely, knowledgable, and friendly efficient staff that clearly knew the menu...................the chef and his team created some fabulous foods to tantalise our tastedbuds.................it looked and tasted fabulous..............congratulations to you all. The theatre created was exciting and curious.....the broth that percolated up and infused with a selection of flavours.........all performed before your very eyes and then added to the most amazing fish dish..............very clever. The snail cigar tested my boundaries a little bit, it's not really my thing but it was worth trying it..........my dining partner helped me out with this one.

After a really lovely meal you return to your room where the bed has been turned down for you and your breakfast menu left for you to fill in as well as a little bag of chocolates left for you which spelt out "GOODNIGHT".....a lovely little touch.

Breakfast sat in our room at a table by the window overlooking Lake Windermere was sublime................beautifully presented and piping hot.............fersh fruit salad, full cumbrian breakfast, a selection of toast and the Samling Smoothie...........delicious.

The final added extra.............as you pay your bill on departure............you are presented with a little selection of hand made Samling chocolates......................we certainly enjoyed them.........THANK YOU for the most fabulous trip......................we had been full of expectation and all these expectations (and more) were met...........................we can't wait to visit again.

Room Tip: Tethera, every time for us........the views are amazing!!!!! xxx

Would it be possible, we asked ourselves, to combine a weekend away with two boisterous puppies and enjoy excellent food and luxury accommodation?

Well it certainly was at the Samling. We booked the Bothy a separate little building near the main hotel. Spacious, tastefully furnished, it has bags of character and an incredible Victorian bath. Beautiful views over lake Windermere and easy access to grounds to walk the dogs. For us it was perfect! The weather was dire, sleet and rain- but the Bothy was warm and snug. Our friends stayed in the main building in an even more luxurious suite.
So accommodation all round excellent!

The public areas inside the main hotel building are stylish, comfortable, log fires, subtle lighting and lots of helpful staff. There's no reception and no obvious sign of any 'hotel management' - but it does work - it's relaxed and attentive.

Pre -dinner drinks and canapés in a cozy little snug library room. The menu was exquisite and with plenty of choice for everyone - vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The courses were perfectly sized to allow you to complete your choice of 5,6 or 7 courses. Artistic and beautiful; the food was really special and presented with a sense of theatre. I'm not sure i could eat like this for a week but for two or three nights, its perfect.

With the Lake District hills on hand to walk off all the fine dining- the Samling has it all!

Room Tip: The rooms are all very different and it is worth studying the brochure or looking online to get the...
