“Fantastic short break!”

5 out of 5. Just spent two days at Craig Manor and really enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is well located for the lake and bars of Bowness. Breakfast was excellent and we also enjoyed a great meal in the restaurant on our second night. Staff were friendly and we will be returning later in the year.

We had a very pleasant weekend stay in this well located hotel, just 5 mins walk to the start of the bars, shops & restaurants of Bowness. Check-in was quick which we appreciated and we found all the staff to be very friendly throughout out short stay. We were just on a b&b basis but ate dinner in the restaurant the second night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd probably book a package with dinner included next time as it pleasant to relax in the lounge with a drink after dinner. The room itself was clean, the bed comfy and we had a great view of the hills. We didn't have a bath unfortunately which would have been nice after a day walking but the shower was large. All in all, we had an excellent stay and we'll definitely be back.

The wife and I stayed at Craig Manor last month and were really impressed. We had a great view from our room and loved the Lake District (1st visit).

Our rate included dinner which was superb...very tasty!! Nice relaxing lounges and the staff were lovely.

If you want to eat out there are also a few restaurants and bars down the hill in Bowness.

The hotel is positioned within easy walking distance of the lake and local town amenities.

We stayed with our 16 month old and our medium size mongrel at Craig Manor for a 3 day winter getaway. As we had the small child we elected for the dinner, bed and breakfast rate so we could monitor our son while we had dinner and drinks. The rate included a free complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. The staff were helpful on the telephone and arranged for us to have a room relatively near the restaurant so our baby monitor would be in range.

I found it a bit odd to pay up front for the room at check in for the full 3 days especially considering that we intended to charge drinks and extras to the room. It made me a tad uneasy to part with the full rate at this point, because I hadn't even seen the room yet. I feel like payment post stay is a better option for the customer then if all is not to one’s satisfaction one has upperhand when it comes to compensation. Happily this was not required as our stay was fine. The room was a reasonable double with just enough room for our travel cot and for the dog in the entranceway. The bathroom had a large bath and good shower. The room did get very hot even after we had turned off the radiators and we were forced to open the windows (in February) to stay cool.

The hotel has an arrangement with the Parkside Leisure Club (Part of the Burnside Hotel) about 20min walk through the town. The leisure club facilities are good but it did get very crowded at peak times 10am and 5pm (It was half term!). Bring your own towel and swim nappies (if that applies) to the leisure club or else you'll pay £1 per towel rental and £3.50 per nappy. The lockers operate with a refunded £1 coin.

The breakfast was from a large and relatively fresh choice, on a hot servery. There were continental items available too but sadly no fresh fruit only tinned produce. The staff kept us permanently topped up with fresh toast and tea without prompting.

The bar has a very limited choice of ale and larger on tap but has an adequate choice of bottled products. The prices are comparable to London prices, helping you to NOT binge for fear of bankruptcy, but this is to be expected in the middle of a large, well established tourist spot.

The inclusive dinner was four courses from a set menu, only the roast of the day and soup varied. The menu was just about large enough for us to have a reasonable choice of food over the 3 day stay but any longer and it would have become tiresome. The food is very well prepared and fresh. The service is prompt and polite at all times. There is an automatic piano that plays while you dine but doesn't always play music that you would expect in an evening dining setting (Eg the monkeys, the doors, and other tunes that were never meant to be played by piano.)

The only gripes I have about the hotel are that the meal times are very short and therefore offer no flexibility for the customer. Breakfast is 0830 - 0915. Dinner is a similarly short period (Call the hotel for times as I cannot say for sure). The other thing to look out for is the extras, stray away from anything in your included rate and you will pay highly for it, for example room service is £5 extra before you order, Steak from the menu is £7 supplement, cheapest phonecall is £1 per min, and drinks are expensive. That said, there is FREE high speed wireless internet access (just ask at reception for the passkey).
In summary, an enjoyable stay at a good hotel, with excellent staff, let down a little by the cost of any extras.

Just returned from a postponed Christmas do!. The rooms are excellent & clean, staff very friendly & make you feel at home.

We had the four course Dinner & have to say each course was excellent and worth every penny.

The hotel is situated in an ideal location in Bowness, it is within walking distance to the Lake.

I would recommend this hotel to everyone if you want all round quality.

My wife and I enjoyed the hotel until after dinner, when the drunken proprietor joined us in the lounge and started making inappropriate remarks to my wife, which she found rather uncomfortable.

The food was good, tghe other dtaff excellent, but the cost of drinks is rather high.

We called at the Hotel for Sunday lunch and from entering the hotel the staff were wonderful. Took our coats and showed us to our table in the conservatory ,where the views over the lake and mountains with the snow on them,is breathtaking. The food was delicious and even though we were late it was still fresh and tasty. The staff were very efficient and friendly .Over all fantastic will be back in the Spring.
