We have stayed in the Applegarth Villa on numerous occasions and have always had a wonderful time. The weekend of April 1st 2012 was no exception. We stayed in room 11 and found it to be a very pleasant and luxurious room. The view from the rear window out over the car park and football pitch and beyond to Lake Windermere and the "mountains" in the distance is great.
It makes you feel that you want to be out there rambling over them but the room is so nice it really begs you to stay for "one more cuppa" before you venture out.
We also have to say that the staff and owners of the hotel are lovely people and they are always there and willing to help in any situation. The food is lovely and very ample and we are always well fed. My wife is a vegetarian and at some places this causes a problem. NOT AT THE APPLEGARTH as they understand vegetarianism.
We are looking forward to our next visit.
Sid and Val.

We stayed at the Applegarth Villa for three nights in April 2012 for a well deserved break and birthday celebration. We loved it.

THE ROOM: We stayed in room 16 which was gorgeous. It had a lovely relaxing jacuzzi bath with a touch screen TV, this meant my partner was in her element. The bed was huge and comfortable. The room had it's own terrace which was lovely, although the weather was not our friend so we could not utilise this area as we would have liked.

THE HOTEL: The hotel building is amazing, on entering you feel a warm welcome. The Whisky bar certainly put a smile on my partner's face and between us we sampled an array of measures. Alan (the owner) was a perfect bar man with second to none service. The hotel is definitely 5 star in quality and service, the overall feel and atmosphere is more like staying with friends which personally we preferred. There is nothing worse than staying in a snotty 5 star establishment where you are simply a room number.

THE OWNERS & STAFF: Both Alan and Suzanne were lovely and friendly. We both feel like we left having made some good friends. The Waitresses were also lovely, very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. It was obvious that they felt passionate about their job and cared about the hotel.

THE FOOD: What else can be said apart from amazing!! Between us we tried a fair few dishes on the menu and we were never disappointed. The potted shrimp was to die for, while the Mango and Passionfruit Posset was just gorgeous. The breakfast was also fab, with a huge choice and plenty on offer to set you up for the day ahead.

OVERALL: We will be definitely be returning, if only to see how Suzanne has managed to blow the budget yet again in the new rooms.

We stayed at the Applegarth Villa for two nights at the beginning of April as a well deserved treat. After reading some of the dissapointed comments by other members i was a little concerned as we had already booked.

I did not need to worry though and was not dissapointed, we were politely greeted after being a little early for the 3pm check in. We were happy to go for a drink up the high street and have a look around but were advised the room should be ready by 2.30 if we wanted to come back a bit earlier.

Room 19 is situated down the staircase from reception. It is a nice sized room with very nice furnishings. The bathroom was very nice indeed with a hugh bath and amazing power shower (i would quite happily have taken the bathroom back home with me!). The room does look on to the entrance of the car park but it is very quiet and it's not as if you have people walking past all the time.

We had the free evening meal offer which was excellent value for money, the food was very tasty and the meat was obviously of a high quality. The service was very quick and friendly and we found it very easy to relax on the comfy sofa with a pot of tea afterwards!

The breakfast was equally as good with nothing being too much trouble. There was a good selection on offer and you would not have left hungry for a full day in the lake district.

Overall a very nice hotel with a good restaurant and friendly service, would stay again!!

Room Tip: Room 19 is a good size, cosy decor and an amazing bathroom!

Me and my partner stayed for two nights early April and loved it. We stayed in room 18. The room was lovely and the price was very worth it. We ate in the restaurant the first night and couldn't fault the food. The breakfast both mornings was very nice and the owners were very welcoming. We would 100% stay here again.

We stayed at Applegarth for four nights as a mini Easter break and loved it. The breakfasts were lovely and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. We loved the actual building itself and the gorgeous public spaces too - it has real charm and a stunning staircase with stained glass window running all the way up.

Applegarth is really easy to find- straight off the main road to Windermere. It was within walking distance of the whole of the town and was great to easily pop out for dinner in the evening.

Due to the staircase this might not be suitable for some as our room was on the 3rd floor (45 steps up). We stayed in room 15 and found that our bathroom, while perfectly done and with everything we needed, was very small, with a physical footprint of about the size of a single bed. Our mattress was also noticeably hard; this was okay for us but might not be so great for those that like softer beds.

Overall we were really pleased with our choice and loved our stay here.

We booked one night for my girlfriends birthday, looking at the website we liked the look of the place.

Overall it was ok. I'd asked for a nice room as it was a birthday present and we were alocated room 15. It was quite a small room with a small ensuite and after seeing the website we were quite dissapointed at the room. We also saw one of the other rooms whilst a door was open and it was about three times as big with a much nicer bathroom. This just left us more dissapointed.

A small room is fine as long as it is comfortable but the bed was not! it was like a peice of wood and pillows were no better, we had very little sleep that night because of the bed. The following morning we were a bit confused at breakfast. Its table service and normally I like some cereal folowed by a cooked breakfast when i stay away as a treat. It wasn't clear from the menu if you could do this, so we both just had a cooked breakfast. The food was very nice however.

The location is ok, with about a 15 minute walk into Bowness and two minute walk into Windermere, its about two minute drive to Bowness. The use of the facilities and leisure club at The Old English is nice.

We would look elsewhere before staying here again.

Just come back from our stay at the Applegarth Villa, first impression was great - ample car park (hard to comeby in Windermere!) and a lovley building and a friendly greating.
Stayed in room 7 which was immaculate, double jaccuzi bath made you feel like you where staying somewhere luxurious and certainly lifted the hotel over other more traditional hotels.
Had the evening meal in JR's resturant, the quality of the food was excellent - and would certainly contemplate eating in the restuarent even if we werent staying in the hotel. Quality of the breakfast matched that of the previous nights meal.

Will definitately be back - eager to try one of the other rooms next time.
