“Really relaxing and luxurious hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2012

I booked this hotel based on he look of the hotel rooms. I must admit I did read some reviews and was a little worried but I shouldn't have worried - everything was wonderful. Both of the owners were really friendly, from check in through the whole of the stay. The room (17) was wonderful - the spa bath whilst watching the tv was pure indulgence. The atmosphere in the car in the evening was really relaxing and the sofas were very comfy. The evening meal was great and the waitress (who also was there for breakfast) was very professional, attentive but not obstructive. Both the evening meal and breakfast were great and well cooked - would recommend the sticky toffee pudding and salmon and scrambled egg - they are a must. Overall we had a lovely time and wold love to come here again at some point.

Stayed for two nights with my boyfriend to celebrate my 30 something birthday on dinner, bed n breakfast basis. We stayed in Room 16 which was perfect - we liked having the outdoor area despite some rain! The bed was very comfortable and we both slept really well. The bathroom was the main attraction in the form of a jacuzzi bath and touch-screen TV on the wall - perfect relaxation! The dinner was a lovely experience - from the pre-dinner drinks and canapes looking out on the nearby hills, to the three course satisfying meal and after-dinner whiskies. The food was very tasty and the portions were generous, and the wine list is very reasonably priced. Generally the atmosphere was relaxed, service friendly without being overbearing or intrusive and although I had not mentioned it was my birthday there was a sprinkling of birthday glitter on the dinner table - a very sweet gesture! Breakfast was another delight - the eggs were literally the tastiest i have eaten, orange and full of flavour. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the poached haddock and we both drank too much coffee because it was so nice!! I would definitely recommend to others and we hope to return in future as it provided the relaxed, peaceful piece of luxury i was hoping for.

Give this place a go, definatly worth a visit. The Villa is tastefully furnished throughout that gives it an air of high class. The room (10), was decorated to a very good standard, the only minor complaints being that the en suite was a tad small and it would of been nice to have a room bigger so you could relax on a sofa other than the chais longue or the bed.
The food was good value but if it wasn't included in the price I would of had to disagree. The complimentary canopys were very poor, where as olives may of been a far better alternative. The starters & desserts and the main courses seemed to be getting prepared by two different people! I had the haggis which had been deep fried within an inch of its life. But all main courses were excellently executed, though certainly not Michelin star - they were superb. The desserts were were boasted about in there pre menu brief but failed to deliver.
The service from the owner and his wife were good, though there persona may be a bit dry for some, and the waitress was so attentive and good at her job.
The use of the Spa facilities of another Hotel (Bowness) are exactly a mile away, so be prepared to walk at least 25 minutes, which is fine going, but coming back after having a massage the last thing you want to do is walk up hill!!!
Definatly give this place a go, but as we found out, in Windermere and Bowness there seems a lot of 4 & 5 stars to choose from!

My girlfriend and i booked this hotel for one night bed and breakfast a month before our stay,we received email conformation and were very much looking forward to a relaxing break in what looked like a lovely hotel.on arriving at the hotel (which is a 2 hour drive from where we live) we were greeted by the manager who told us that in the T&C's they had the right to cancel our booking as we only booked for 1 night, We were told we could only have the room for 2 nights(this wasnt possible due to work commitments)but if not then we had to leave. The manager told us they had emailed us but we hadnt recieved any emails. Rather than help us find somewhere else as we didnt know the area, all we got was a snooty attitude and he basically couldnt care less. The hotel itself looked lovely but the manager needs to work on his people skills as he is a very unpleasant man and not helpful in anyway. So we were left to find somewhere else at very short notice, which was a blessing in discuise as we stumbled across a lovely hotel in Ambleside called The Waterside(see my other review) the staff here were the complete opposite of those at Applegarth, they were friendly and welcoming and couldnt do enough for us. The Hotel was beautiful too and it actully cost £70 less than Applegarth so the snooty manager actually did us a favour by turning us away :)

When making an on-line booking you will be asked to accept our terms and conditions before proceeding with your on-line booking. Had you read the terms and conditions you would have clearly noticed that a minimum of two nights require to be booked at the weekend although we do recommend you contact us by telephone if you can only make it for one night. The email you received shortly after making your one night booking on-line clearly stated that you had made a PROVISIONAL BOOKING which would be confirmed by us within 24 hours if acceptable. We emailed you within minutes of receiving your PROVISIONAL BOOKING to confirm that we were unable to accept it as we required a minimum of two nights to be booked,no monies were taken from the card you supplied. If you did not receive this email why did you not contact us after the 24 hour deadline to ask about your provisional booking.
Many of our guests use our on-line booking system to great effect and praise it for its time saving qualities however you must ensure that you understand how it works and what is expected of you when using it. It is a fantastic system when used correctly however in this case we cannot be held responsible for you not reading the literature correctly and not reacting to our 24 hour deadline.

We stayed here for 3 nights in July this year. Had done a lot of research before going and we wanted to go somewhere that seemed to offer a good deal. Having the dinner included in the rate was what made us book here. If it hadn’t included the meal, we probably wouldn’t have, as it was quite expensive on simply a B&B basis, but on a B&B and dinner rate it was very good

We stayed in Room 9, which was one of the luxury rooms. Had lovely views out the back, where you could see the mountains from your bed. Room was large, classy and furnished to the highest quality, and the bathroom was amazing. It even had a TV in the wall which you could watch while having a bath. Bed was very comfortable, and the room was very quiet. We slept very well each night.

Full English breakfast was very nice each morning, and wasn’t greasy at all. Agree that maybe they should extend the breakfast hours, as it would have been nice to lay in bed a bit longer. Evening meals were very nice. You go down into the bar area where you can order a drink and get given a canapé. 5/10 mins later you get taken to your table for the meal. We found the food to be average to good. A good selection of dishes, and we found it to be of good quality. Nothing to be amazed by, but as in our heads the food was free, we weren’t too bothered that it wasn’t amazing. Not sure if I’d have a different opinion if I’d come off the street and paid the money for just a meal, but as it was part of the deal we were pleased. The bar sells local ales which were a nice change to just selling lagers, and we enjoyed the local ale so much we ended up going to where they make it and bought a load!

The location was great, and offered the perfect base to visit the Lakes. 15 min walk down to Lake Windermere, and 20 min back (all uphill), all the other main Lakes were within a reasonable drive away. Was a nice relaxing hotel to come back to after a long days walking and driving around.

Overall, we loved the room, the location and the breakfast. Food was ok and did a good job, and we would definitely return here for future visits, and have recommended to family and friends if they ever visit the area.

Pay little attention to the review below from a guy in Dubai. It’s a different 5 star to the sort you’d get from a top end hotel. This is a small, family run boutique hotel which we personally found just as nice as some of the 5 stars we have stayed in, and in some cases, better. The size of the room shouldn’t be used as a gauge of the star rating of a hotel. Also, comparing it to the Holbeck Ghyll nearby is quite frankly pointless, as this is the best restaurant (Michelin starred) and accommodation in the area, oh and is very very expensive, to then compare it to the 2nd part of their honeymoon in the Maldives is ridiculous.

Booked a 2 night B&B and Dinner on the Villa deal at fairly short notice for 1 - 3 September. I began to get a little nervous with some variable trip advisor reviews but need not have worried - I was really pleased with the experience from start to finish. The room was well furnished with a comtemporary high quality feel - use of Grohe bathroom fittings and Harlequin type fabrics give you an idea of the quality of the fit. The super king bed was amazingly comfortable. Dinner was a leisurely affair with an emphasis on simple dishes well prepared - look out for the local cheeses as an alternative to dessert! Wines were good value with prices below what you would expect for a 5 star establishment. Breakfast was equally as good with a whole range of light (if you had too much dinner!) through to a full English!

I personally liked the efficient and friendly but non intrusive service - if you're after a hotel with lots of facilities and very formal service, then this is not the place for you, if you like simple high quality in a friendly relaxed environment, then you will enjoy!

Room Tip: Room 14 is at the top and a mid grade room - if you like a super king bed, then this is the one for...

The bedroom of room 7 isn't massive, but it's definitely big enough for two people comfortably. It's clean and cosy. The view is onto the road but it's a super quiet road and as you are one floor up there are no issues of privacy or noise. The bed is comfortable and the sheets are super soft and luxurious. But the real reason for choosing room 7 is the bathroom! It's huge and lovely, with a big Jacuzzi bath set in a bay window and a lovely shower/wet room. We went to Windermere needing some rest, relaxation and luxury. We spent three nights in this room and weren't disappointed. We found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating; they gave us an ice bucket and glasses for our own champagne and let us take drinks from the bar up to our room. If I could suggest one thing to the owners it would be to serve breakfast for longer, it’s currently only between 8.30am and 9.30am, and also to allow breakfast in bed – that would have been amazing. But I have no complaints - I would definitely recommend staying in room 7.

Room Tip: Room 7 was great
