Me and my husband stayed here 27.2.13 for 1 night for my husbands burthday. We booked room 16 as it has a terrace and we smoke. The room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was amazing (whirlpool bath & TV) , bathrobes and thick towels such a special touch. also Kettle with Tea & coffee and bottled water provided. It was spotlessly clean. The communal areas are full of original features. We had a three course meal 'On the villa' as part of a special offer, the food was amazing,,all 3 courses and my husband even at all of it, which I assure you is rarity.the quality of ingredients was evidient, breakfast didn't disappoint either The owners are very friendly and welcoming, i emailed them before hand to arrange a surprise cake & candles, they replied promptly and I got the feeling nothing would be too much trouble.we will definitely return again. You get what you pay for and Applegarth didn't disappoint.

We recently stayed at the Aplegarth Villa in Room 2 to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. The hotel itself is a beautiful Victorian building which is very tastefully decorated with some unique and lovely original features. The huge bedroom was absolutely fabulous with the most stunning views. The bathroom is exceptional with the massive spa bath commanding a room of its own. Everything about this Hotel was first class including the service and the food. What better place to celebrate a momentous occasion. Highly recommended and Looking forward to a return visit.

My partner & I stayed for 1 night Wednesday 13th March 2013, everything about this hotel is fabulous!! We stayed in room 17 which was beautifully decorated with such amazing attention to detail. The room was spotlessly clean. We had a double spa bath with a tv OMG that was the highlight. We had the 3 course dinner on the villa which was fabulous no complaints whatsoever & the staff were so attentive. The breakfast was also fab with so much choice it was a great start to the day. The owners were lovely very welcoming & nothing too much trouble. We were shown some of the other rooms all amazing!! The decor is out of this world & each room is different. We will definitely return & have already recommended this hotel to all our friends & family. Thank you for a fabulous stay.

Room Tip: Just look on the website & choose your room before you book you will not be disappointed

I've been coming to this hotel on business for a few years now and to be honest just keeps getting better!
The owners Alan and Suzanne really make you feel welcome..the rooms are some of the best i've stayed in..very clean.
I use the Spa facility down the road which is also excellent.

Room Tip: Stayed in alot of the rooms here and can't fault any!

We turned up at the Applegarth villa for a two day midweek stay,as we didn't want to drive,we decided to take the train, the Applegarth Villa is a 5 minute walk from the train station and is just off the Main Street in the beautiful Lake District hamlet of Windermere.
situated on college street the hotel boasts beautiful views of the stunning and rugged landscape that only the Lake District has.
The hotel itself is a beautiful Victorian building and makes a handsome profile on the surrounding countryside.
We arrived an hour before check in due to the train timetables and were met by the owner Alan who greeted us warmly and who made us feel immediately at home and relaxed,we settled in the very cosy bar area as our room was checked to see if it was ready.
Nothing seemed to be too much to ask as our every need was met and even the dinner in the evening was able to be prepared when we were ready.
We stayed in luxury room 7,which has a stunning tiled bathroom complete with sunken spa bath set in a beautiful bay window area and a separate power shower wet room, all with mood lighting and lovely finishing touches and excellent attention to detail,my partner and I spent oodles of time luxuriating in the bath.
We loved the room but feel we need to mention the rather small bed as the photograph on the website did give us the impression that it was a full size double bed, however the bed is in fact more a 3/4 size as & I'm 6'2 in height, the difference in bed size was noticeable.
During our stay we met Alan,Suzanne & the rest of the staff who were all extremely friendly and helpful, and even though work was underway on a swimming pool to link the annex next door to the hotel,(watch this space) they were still readily available and always there for advice and a friendly chat to help with your stay.
On the day of our departure,Suzanne was kind enough to show us both the suite and room 2 as these are often left open when not occupied to show customers the high quality running through this excellent establishment,we are very much looking forward to returning for a second visit very soon.

The size of Room 2 is massive & the high ceilings giving that extra spacious feel. The bathroom is immaculate, with rain shower & jaquzzi!! The food & service was 5 star!! Will be defintley visiting again!!

Room Tip: Room 2 was very nice. Huge bedroom with view to the Lake & fells. Bathroom was the best feature...

After reading the glowing reviews we booked room 10 for a cosy couple of nights in the lakes over Valentines tempted by the inclusive evening dinner offer.. only to find that it wasn't actually inclusive for Valentines night!
The hotel is just yards from Windermere's shopping high street with ample easy parking. Classically Victorian, very well appointed and spotlessly clean with extremely welcoming staff.
We learnt after signing in that our room was actually on the third floor and that there wasn't a lift.. not a problem as we would be out a lot and only a couple of nights stay..but after a day out exploring its a long climb from the car park to the lobby and then up three flights..

Room 10 enjoys a lovely view over the car park and roof tops with a glimpse of the lake and views towards the snow covered hills beyond.
The room itself, while excellently appointed is on the small side with a tiny wardrobe cupboard which is barely adequate for one and also sharing space with an ironing board and iron which had to be moved to accommodate clothes hanging.

En-suite, the bathroom, while very clean and stylish was also very small, allowing little room to turn between the basin, wc and bath and certainly no room for two!.
After two days I still had to think twice how the high quality but confusing taps operated!lol
Poor design of the shower over the bath also meant that shower water could saturate the tiled floor necessitating towels to be used to mop up.

Coming back to that evening meal, we honestly would not have dined there for the second night if it had not been inclusive. Although the service was very good, the food was in our opinion not..but perhaps you like cheese and par cooked vegetables? The hotel have a gem in "Alina" who is everything and more that a waitress could be.
While the setting of the restaurant is elegant the atmosphere was at times...quiet. Likewise, the bar. We found the bar so lacking in atmosphere that we retired to our room early on both evenings.
Maybe this was early and out of season and the summer would more suitable and attract passing trade but the hotel was fairly busy.
Would we stay here again? Maybe not.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am sorry that you misunderstood our "Dinner on the Villa" offer which is currently running until the end of June with the usual exceptions of Christmas, New Year, Valentine and any Bank holidays.
Room 10 is one of our superior rooms which as you quite rightly mention has fantastic views towards the fells with a glimpse of the lake. This room is actually situated on our second floor as we do not have a third but it is easy to get distracted when enjoying our beautiful oak staircase with magnificent stainglass windows. The room is above average size but if you wanted larger may I suggest our luxury or Ultimate luxury rooms
I was sad to hear that you had a little difficulty operating the taps in the bathroom. At the Applegarth we have tried to fuse a very traditional style building with the modern cutting edge design of bedrooms and bathrooms that are available so guests will on occasion experience something which is slightly out of the ordinary but hopefully pleasing.
Checking the restaurant diary the restaurant was busy on Valentines evening and full on the Friday with both residents and non residents. Many guests after enjoying all that the lake district has to offer during the day find that after dinner they just want to retire to the luxury of their rooms and relax, especially since it was Valentines!
