We loved our stay. We chose a room which had less daylight than other rooms but was spacious and had a jacuzzi bath ... Lovely.
The Villa it'self has a cosy feel to it and within a couple of days It felt almost like home.
Fabulous views from the restaurant and bar.
The owners were really warm and friendly as well as totally professional. Lynn has a lovely sense of humour.
Food ... Yummy

we stayed at the applegarth for 2 nights, it was my birthday and wanted to chill out for a treat, and it was just that, a real treat, lovely hosts, Alan & Suzanne and a great team, we were made very welcome, nothing too much trouble, and while we were there they had just had the hotel inspector pay a visit and have now been given a 5 star Gold ! we would not expect anything else from this hotel, food 1st class, rooms lovely, we were shown room 1, what an amazing suite, we will be booking that room next time we stay, for sure !

We were very excited about visiting applegarth villa after reading all the reviews. We choose the lowest price, which at 160 a night was a treat and were surprised at what we got. The decor was lovely throughout, however the small bed, nowhere to out suitcases, dressing table without light, tiny sink, not enough space between the toilet and sink take away from the beauty. We were also surprised that the staff were not friendlier.

Thank you for taking the time to review Applegarth and that you thought it was a lovely hotel. Room 15 is an ideal room for anyone on a budget. At £100 mid week or £160 at the weekend to include three course dinner it offers luxury 5 star Gold award Guest accommodation in a beautiful historic building with facilities such as private secure parking, onsite bar, onsite restaurant and leisure facilities for little more than the price of a small B&B that has non of the above. We do have superior, luxury and ultimate luxury which are obviously much larger rooms but then they are a little more expensive.

One of best hotels we have ever stayed in. Friendly staff, excellent service and cleanliness of rooms outstanding. Room 11 top floor so quiet and peaceful. Lovely view from window. Great choice of food too.
Will probably return at some point.

Room Tip: Room 11 perfect but top floor so lots of stairs.

We are delighted you felt Applegarth was one of the best places you have ever stayed. I would agree with you that room 11 is a lovely room with great views and romantic bathroom which carries the colour scheme through from the bedroom. All of our rooms are different so we hope we may welcome you back in the future to sample another one!

I booked this hotel for my husband's birthday this August (2014). The photo of the room was exactly what I saw when I walked in (Room 17). I booked the 3 course meal offered with the room for both nights we were there and I'm very glad I did. The food was fantastic and the service in general was excellent too. On my husband's birthday I asked if we could have a table next to the window. Not only did they do this but they went the extra mile and put 'Happy Birthday' table confetti on our table with a birthday card from the hotel. A lovely extra little touch to make the evening special.
We will definitely be returning!

Room Tip: Room 17 was brilliant with a double bath

We stayed at The Applegarth Villa and Restaurant this week for two nights, we stayed in room 4 which had excellent views over the fells.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and excellently presented, and very efficiently and professionally managed. The Staff where superb with an excellent professional and courteous manner, nothing was too much for them, and not once did we feel that we were an inconvenience. All the staff that we met were very professional and excellently presented.

The great (apparent) secret of this hotel is the food. We ate in the hotel on both evenings, and if we had been staying longer I dare say that we would have eaten in every evening, working our way through their excellently presented menu. The chef must also be complimented, as we were slightly fussy as we were trying to eat healthy, no chips, so we asked to substitute for vegetables, these were perfectly cooked with bite, no soggy waterlogged vegetables here.

All round a great stay, great breakfast, super dinner and a great selection of wines and single molt whiskey.

Only criticism is that the plug did not work in our bath, I am sure that this is down to the fact that the management have not been informed, we simply lifted it out by hand so not an issue at all.

Well done to all the team at Applegarth, we will be back for a longer stay at some point.

Room Tip: All great (I think) looking forward to the new rooms in the stables.

We usually stay in The Wordsworth in Grasmere but thought we would try somewhere different for a change. The quality of the accommodation is very good, furnishings in the room and the bathroom both of a very high standard, although our room was probably a bit smaller than we expected. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and Suzanne was a great ambassador for the area and she always took time to sit and talk with us which was nice. We stayed on the offer which included an evening meal which was a good standard. On the second evening I chose a dessert which unfortunately was not what I had thought it was going to be and consequently did not like it but the staff offered to change it for me which I thought was very good. Overall this was an enjoyable visit and would definitely consider staying there again in the future
