So pleased to find this wonderful family run hotel. Our room was perfect for our needs. Our evening meal was top class & really enjoyable. The wine & whiskey menu was excellent. Service brilliant throughout our stay. Well done all.

As a family run establishment your comments mean a lot to us and it is wonderful to be appreciated by such lovely people as yourselves. Great to hear dinner was top notch and that you enjoyed our extensive whisky and wine menu.
Hope to see you again soon

This was booked as a surprise by my husband for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. We stayed in the Great How Suite, what a fabulous suite, pure luxury, everything was immaculate, couldn't fault anything. The bathroom was amazing with a choice of a rainfall shower or double spa bath compete with a TV. We had two huge balconies/terraces with stunning views, hot tub on one. We booked a table for Saturday evening, what can I say the food was delicious, beautifully presented and served to us by very attentive, friendly staff. Breakfast was also to die for, I have never had scrambled eggs and salmon like it before, wow. Our whole experience was just amazing, we will definitely be returning,. Thank you Applegarth for making our 30th Wedding Anniversary Celebration one to remember x

Just enjoyed the most wonderful 2 nights breaks with my fiance at the Applegarth .We booked one of the hotels suites and was both truly taken aback by the expanse of detail to décor and furnishing of our suite .From the exquisite bathrooms ( you have to see to believe how immaculately presented they are ) to the most beautiful balcony with stunning views .
We decided to have dinner at the hotel on both of our evenings as we were so impressed by the service and quality of the food ..why go elsewhere.
The food in the Applegarth certainly does not disappoint .Starting with the salt and pepper Squid and fishcakes , then salmon and steak , both courses cooked and served to our exact likings .Perfection.
The experience of our break at the Applegarth was outstanding , thank you , and we look forward to returning .

Always delightful to welcome guests to Applegarth who truly appreciate the attention to detail that we strive to achieve. Pleased to hear you enjoyed the balcony, its always great to have some private outside space. Considering we have the village of WIndermere with all the lovely shops and bars on our doorstep we are very fortunately that many of our rooms and suites enjoy lovely views over the Lakeland fells. Hope to see you both again very soon

My Fiance and i recently dined at the Applegarth Villa and all i can say is Wow!!!!

The Applegarth Villa has such a lovely, warm and inviting feel to it, the decor is just sublime and the staff could not have done more for us both if they tried.

I had the the Salt and Pepper squid and my fiance had the Fish cakes and the review for the nights dinning was set right there ........... just perfect.

For mains i had a Fillet Steak, now i love my Steaks but rarely can find a Restaurant that can cook a "Very Rare" steak properly, the Steak was cooked to perfection and barely required any cutting action as the Steak knife fell straight through!! my fiance had the herb crusted Salmon and although i didnt try it (too busy declaring my love for my Fillet) she assures me it was Excellent.

We both fell in love with a bottle of Amarone red wine which was recomended to us by the Bar Staff and just finished off the meal perfectly.

Id like to review the Puddings but we were both too stuffed to have the third course.

What i will say is, from what i saw coming through the resaurant, the Desserts just looked amaizing. Next time i will skip lunch to leave enough room for a Pud

Spent two nights a suite which spacious, quiet & thoughtfully created with wooden floors in super bathroom suite with large bedroom space with chill out area via large chaise lounge leading into a balcony with large hot tub supported by two chairs & table to admire the idyllic view across Windermere rolling hills & forests.

The whole team from housekeeping to restaurant & check in/out being polite, professional & friendly consistently.

The restaurant food is again well thought out with venison, salad, squid or salmon & prawn fishcakes as starter options sign locally sourced fillet of steak or sea bass as some of the options along with vegetarian or vegan dishes available.

The food was sumptuous, well presented & very much enjoyed supported by an extensive variety of whiskeys to complete the evening.

Throughly enjoyed me stayed and would not hesitate to recommend this luxury suites to any traveller.

Overall this place is not cheap and the rooms are as described and the staff friendly.
Unfortunately this does not extend if you get sick.
3 hours after eating my tea in which I ate the squid starter I started to vomit and had horrendous diarrhoea. We unfortunately had to leave the hotel during early hours of the morning as I was becoming more ill. Kevin the owner knew I was ill as we had to inform him we were leaving. He said I must have a bug! I therefore drove home very unwell and when home I was so ill my wife rang hospital for advice. Per telephone consultation with emergency doctor I was told I had food poisoning!(doctors even rang me back to ensure I was not getting worse because of the severity of my symptoms ) I was given medical advice via phone and told to call back in 24/48 hours if I became any worse. I am a usual healthy 49 year old and I was so ill it was unbelievable. This illness was no BUG Kevin. We received 1 email from Kevin hoping I was now well and arrived home safely. I then have sent Kevin 2 emails at Applegarth Villa to inform him of doctors diagnosis and we have had no replies. I do think it’s advisable to let a hotel know if it’s serving food that has made me sick.We have had no apology. Also the quickness of my illness (within 3 hours) would be consistent with food poisoning. So unfortunately it must have been at Applegarth Villa wether the owner agrees or not. I have left this review as the owner is ignoring my emails. Not good hotelier practice

Well, to say we are somewhat shocked by your review would be an understatement!!
When you rang our Manager at 2 am in the morning to say you were leaving as you were ill you told him that you had eaten a dodgy cake at lunchtime that had tasted off. Kevin offered you bottled water and asked if he could ring a doctor for advice for you as for your safety and other road users he did not feel it advisable for you to drive home feeling poorly in the early hours of the morning. Next morning Kevin kindly emailed you to check you had got home safely.
After reading your review we were surprised to see that you say you have emailed us twice since leaving. I have now found one in our spam filter, that being the reason I have not responded. Squid is by far the most popular starter we have on the menu with a daily turn over..After checking with the kitchen and restaurant diary there was many portions served that evening, some guests who ate that night are still staying with us, no one having any adverse affects therefore possibly you were right with your original assumption that the cafe cake was maybe to blame
Not being a doctor but I don't really think that an over the phone diagnosis could possibly determine what had caused you to be sick and to truly confirm food poisoning requires blood tests or, dare I say it, stool samples!!!!!! Leaving us on Thursday morning by Saturday you have already managed to post libelous reviews on many internet sites so its good to see you have made a speedy recovery. On a final note, Google doctor suggests any shellfish or seafood poisoning would not manifest itself in less than three hours and can actually take up to forty eight. We are saddened by your review but at least Trip advisor gives us the opportunity to set the record straight
