A lovely B&B in a huge gorgeous Arts and Crafts manor house from 1906 located down a single windy road above Windermere/Bowness, and within easy walking distance of both small town centres and their shops and restaurants (though would recommend a taxi for winter nights).
The (very nice) owners Tony and Rhoda have lived here for many years and have kept the house and its original features very nicely. There are just two guest rooms, both with en suites and a shared kitchenette so it feels quite private. Breakfasts are yummy; the gardens and views are good, and the location is great.
Gillthwaite Rigg is absolutely what you'd want for a nice long weekend in the Lakes, so comes highly recommended. It's also deservedly one of Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay.
