“A tasty stop off!”
Reviewed 28 September 2013

We visited Brockhole on Friday 27th September, and we were pleasantly surprised at what was on offer. Walking around the gardens, and on the lake shore soon gives you a thirst and a desire for something to eat. We decided to try the Terrace and we were pleased that we did, we had freshly made sandwiches, cake and coffees whilst sat on the terrace overlooking a wonderful view of the lake.

“Brockhole stop off on Winderemere cruise”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

It did not feel cosy or comfortable rather Spartan actually - limited menu had finished for the day but soup and bread was good - bit draughty and noisy - interesting photos on wall

“Sunny terrace”
Reviewed 23 July 2013

We enjoyed a drink and sat on the terrace outside. Small bottle of wine (approx 1.5 glasses) was reasonable price. Sandwiches good.
Could do with more umbrellas over the tables.
The gardens and facilities were very good and worth a visit.

“Beautiful environment, if you ignore the grumpy staff”
Reviewed 6 November 2012

Brockhole is a wonderful gem of a place, providing so many healthy outdoor activities for old & young alike, with stunning views of Windermere, gorgeous gardens & access to lake cruises to Bowness from its own jetty.

We visited twice in October and found the cafe to be a unique and interesting experience! We think it is staffed by volunteers, which somewhat explains the differing levels of grumpiness displayed by the ladies behind the counter, but Brockhole does need to address this issue if it is to attract visitors who will rave to their friends about it.

The cakes are yummy, but with really poor labelling (accompanied by very grumpy staff response when asked what the unlabelled cakes were!) The haphazard flow through the available products, together with a poor & confusing service line process could really be improved by a 5-minute review by a retail/food service expert.

We will return to Brockhole & we are prepared to suffer the dismal cafe experience again, as the overall Brockhole 'day out' experience is so lovely -- but the cafe could so easily be improved by employing happier people who like & appreciate customers.
