I wanted to treat my mother for her 60th birthday and decided to go to the Lake District. Booked this hotel on its own website. The site said that it is a 4 star hotel and the pictures looked great! I booked a twin room with a lake view. The description did not specify the fact that the room also faced a very busy road!!! It was absolutely impossible to sleep with a window open beacuse of the traffic. If you shut the window then you have to deal with a permanent smell of dampness that came from the bathroom! The room was definitely not a 4 star - very basic with no decor whatsoever. We wanted to eat at a restaurant but were put off completely by unimaginative menu with extorinate prices!!!

It is a shame really for it is a nice building in a nice area. It is definitely not a 4 star hotel but just a basic 3 star!!!

well, the hotel wasn't exactly the most amazing looking accomodation...4*,to rate that they must have rated it with their eyes closed!! it looked more like a pub!! however the reception gave you a good vibe to think maybe the rooms are this nice and modern...but they wasnt!!!!

3 nights was 3 nights to long! we went here for my dads 50th birthday and i was very upset to think how much money it cost my mum for us to all stay there, the standard rooms were alot bigger and better than the upgraded rooms! my room had a jucuzzi bath/shower, all marble flooring and decoration and didnt cost anymore money. where as my mum had to pay an extra £50 a night for herself and my dad to stay in this lake view room in which didnt even have a bath, just a shower. it didnt have a hairdryer and it was so small and basic u wouldnt want to put a cat in it!!! the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, the joise of the traffic was a joke as well! we also took our little doggy, and as it states in the brochures, "they are so dog friendly"...well that seemed as though it was a lie! she wasnt allowed to be left alone at any time, and to eat meals we had to take it in turns to look after her!! it was so unfair!

the food there was reasonable, we never ate in the main restuarant for the evening meal as it was so expensive!! the breakfast was nice, again we all ate lots of that to keep us goin for the day!!

the town is around 3miles away...a very long walk, about 2 hours...theres nothing there though, its like a normal town really, theres no lil boutique shops around. the best place to go was either ambleside or bowness as it was alot more compact and prettier!

i would recommend to anyone to go to bowness or ambleside as the locations are lovely...we ate at the waterhead hotel 1 evening and that was lovely, very much a la carte, again really expensive.

most of windermere was overpriced, but as its england...what do you expect!!

Stayed here for a night to see the Lake District again. The hotel is some distance out of the town of Windermere to the North - which took us a while to find. So, to enjoy Windermere or Bowness (which are both cute and interesting), you will need to drive. The lake is opposite - on the other side of a busy road. There is plenty of parking at the back of the hotel on the North side - but this is not obvious when you first see the entrance. Check in was good. However, our room was in a new block which was some distance from the main hotel, and involved several corridors and a slow lift. The room itself was modern, but didn't have any view. We ate in town, so cannot comment on the restaurant - but the diners there seemed to be happy. The hotel seems to have lots of coach tourists staying. Next time, we will probably choose a hotel in town instead.

Very disappointing stay in August 2008 The rooms in the new building transmit every sound so it is impossible to get a good nights sleep as you can hear every movement and sound in every other room. The quality of furniture is poor and there is no air conditioning This is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The breakfast was poor with many items on the menu not being available and the staff not very helpful The hotel is way over priced for what it offers - try a b and b in Ambleside where you will get better service and value

I stayed at this hotel in July with 2 pensioners and 2 children. One of the pensioners was disabled and I therefore booked a room suitable for her. On arrival we were very disappointed with the reception staff who were obviously about to change shift and wanted us out their way as quickly as possible. We were given our room keys and pointed in the direction of our rooms. We were given no information about hotel facilities, dining areas, , breakfast time or directions to anywhere in the hotel. The rooms we had booked were down a corridor which seemed out of the way. The corridor outside our rooms had old furniture and folded down tables stored next to the fire exit. The rooms themselves were small and nothing special. The decor was very ninties and a bit shabby. One room did not even have a towel rail with towels folded and left on the bed. One room faced the very busy main road which is between the hotel and the marina. This road resembled a speedtrack and the noise from it was dreadful all night long. On searching the rooms there was no guest information so I had to return to the reception desk to ask for information on dining areas and breakfast. I was advised the written information normally in the room was getting done at the printers. At this point I enquired about the childrens club that my children were looking forward to going to only to be informed that it only runs during the English school holidays which had not yet starting so there was no entertainment planned during our 4 day stay. As this was one of the reasons that we booked this hotel we were very disappointed. On the website it is also advertised that all children receive a welcome pack and we had not received this either. On mentioning this the packs were sent to our room but at this point I had 2 disappointed children. My youngest daughter was very keen to see the club mascot Sam the dog and on our last night we mentioned this to the man at reception who did indeed arrange for the dog to visit her. Thankfully this was the highlight of my daughters holiday but really the advertisement of a childrens club is very inaccurate. Our room was also opposite a conference room which was in use on our first night by a large amount of very noisy men, the noise went on till after midnight and was very disrupting to us all. On complaining to the staff the following day they were sympathetic but there was no compensation for all the poor standards that we had received since arriving. On a plus side to this hotel the breakfast was very nice, as was the leisure pool. The staff in the pool area were helpful. I would not return to this hotel and I would not recommend it to anybody. The road outside it is a death trap and it is very difficult to cross to go to the lovely marina area. When you look at photo's of the hotel you can not see this road but believe me it is there. .

We had our wedding at this hotel on Saturday 24th May 2008.

The location and the hotel were absolutely perfect!

We had our wedding in part of the main restaurant and as you can see from the pictures, it looked perfect!
We then had our photos on the lawn outside the hotel and across the road by the Marina.

Again what a perfect location. Luckily we had perfect weather too and the pictures have come out great.

Our wedding breakfast was in the main restaurant and the food and drink were superb and couldn’t fault anything. The service again was perfect.

We had a lake view room which was very very large and had a huge bed and bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath. The lake view was stunning and def worth paying extra for if you can.

The bar and reception area in this hotel again are all very smart and funky.

We are also writing as we want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Gemma (Hotel Wedding Co-ordinator) for helping to make our wedding at the Low wood Hotel so perfect and special! Thank you for all of your planning and hard work behind the scenes beforehand as everything went so smoothly on the day.

Also we would like to say a special thank you to Michael for being toastmaster for the day, and ensuring the food and service exceeded our expectations. The food was delicious and thank you to all staff as the service was excellent.
All the guests told us it was the most fantastic wedding they had ever been to in such a lovely hotel, in a beautiful location so we had to leave some feedback on trip advisor.

We enjoyed it so much that we went to book our 1st year anniversary in the same room, room 19 for our wedding anniversary in 2009 and found out that we get 1 night free as we
had our wedding there!

We cant recommend the hotel enough so go on try it and see…..

I found the bar, reception and restaurant in this hotel all very smart and stylish. Staff were helpful and breakfasts were superb. I had a beauty treatment in the spa, which was a great experience - thanks to the professional, yet friendly attitude of the spa staff.

My only small niggle with this hotel was that the old wing could do with a little updating, some hallways looked a little tired and we did notice some wallpaper peeling off the wall in our room. But this is a minor criticism, as our room and the hotel were very pleasant indeed!
