“Outstanding Hotel, outstanding customer service, outstanding food.”
Reviewed 7 January 2009

We have just returned home having had a fabulous Christmas break! We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay (4th year) and the hospitality surpassed all our expectations. As soon as we arrived at reception the staff made us feel like we’d ‘come home’. Super ladies.
Our rooms were beautifully presented with amazing Lake views, and we have all hung our framed ‘Low Wood’ pictures up in our prospective houses. What a lovely Christmas present - thank you.
The food was outstanding – each and every course at each and every meal was wonderful. Always hot and served with plenty of smiles. The youngest member of our party, Sean, is normally an extremely fussy eater but not in your restaurants – he ate everything that was put in front of him! Amazing!
We have tried other Hotels offering Christmas packages and none come anywhere close to the standards of the Low Wood. Whether you are 6months old or 76 years old, this is the place to be at Christmas - everybody totally catered for, looked after, and you can't fail to have your best christmas ever!! We'll be going back this year 2009 - no need to go anywhere else!

I chose the Low Wood after looking at loads of other hotels and I chose it because of it's location and amenities but I was dissappointed!

After checking in, we trekked up and down stairs and corridors and eventually found our room. I know many people would like the quirkiness of this but I found it irritating as so many additions had been made to the original building!

We had upgraded to a feature room and apart from a lovely bathroom I was left feeling disappointed. The decor was in desperate need of of some tlc and the room was really dark (directly outside our room was a steep bank so being on the ground floor it blocked alot of natural light).

We went down to the bar area for some lunch which was absolutely lovely and with the views over the lake I forgot about our dreary room!

We took a trip over to the leisure facilities (which again was a trek through corridors and up and down stairs) whilst the swimming pool (and outdoor hot tub) were ok the changing rooms were shabby and needed a good clean.

Although the location of the hotel is amazing and the staff were all friendly and helpful it's not enough for me to stay here again!

I was so looking forward to staying at this hotel as their website "English Lakes Hotels" gave a glowing description. Their booking system on line seemed ok but on arrival we discovered we did not have the type of room we had booked. The receptionist then had to try to change our room which eventually she did but if it had been very busy we would have had no chance. The first room was shabby and small and definitely not as described on their website. The dining room was def not 4 star standard. More like a canteen, very little space between tables so you have to negotiate how you get to and from your table through a chicane of tables. The restaurant was def not value for money. Very expensive, small portions and again not 4 star standard. I would not recomment this hotel and would not stay there again. I have now found a much better one in the lake district where guests are treated as valued customers!

my partner myself and two children decided to get away for a
relaxing break before christmas, we picked the lake district as its
an area we have travelled to many times, and we love it. the hotel
was in a lovely location overlooking the lake. we had a standard
family room which was lovely, very clean large double bed, and
bunk beds for the children. the bathroom was spotless as was
the whole room. the breakfast was really nice everything you
would want. we didnt eat in the main restaurant as it was very
expensive, and we did find that the drinks in the main bar area
were very expensive. the pool and spa area were great, the hot tub outside was great. overall we really thought this hotel was
great and we would recommend it to anyone. we hope to make
a return visit soon.

We booked the Low Wood for a long weekend to celebrate my 60th birthday - six adults and one 6 month old baby. The lake view rooms were beautiful with extra touches - a birthday card and a box of chocolates in our room and in the room with the cot ,a basket of baby toiletries and even a duck for the baby's bath. All nice little extras. We dined in the restaurant both nights and the food was excellant. We had after dinner coffee in one of the small lounges which had a roaring log fire - very cosy. The decor in all the lounges and the restaurant is super. The pool and spa area are excellant and as for sitting in the hot tub in November looking over the lake - well - quite stunning ! The weekend we stayed the hotel was very busy with a conference and a wedding but the service we had was excellant and we weren't neglected or crowded by the hotel's other events.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone for a nice family weekend.

A really nice hotel for the family. We took two children and a dog with us. The family room was great with an interconnecting room for the children and dog. The views of the lake was lovely. We eat in the bar area one night and had some lovely home made food. The swimming pool and hot tub was great after a long walk. We ate in the restaurant one night and it was wonderful atmosphere in the evening. The breakfast included local sausage and smoke bacon which was really nice. A great family hotel catering for all the family. Well worth it.

I booked this hotel 2 weeks in advance via lastminute.com. It was a mid range price,(£90 for 1 night) and the hotel website made the rooms look fantastic.

We arrived, reception was empty, and the stern receptionist took my lastmiute.com form from me. She couldn't find the booking. The other receptionist couldn't find the booking. The reservations couldn't find the booking. The supervisor couldn't find the booking. I had prepaid via credit card and had the printed internet voucher in front of me with a refernece number, it can't be that hard surely??? Eventually after giving up on finding my booking, they had to make a new one, and we were obviously given the leftover room.

The room.... tiny and not at all like the picture. The bathroom was massive, with jacuzzi bath, massiveshower, a ceramic fireplace, absolutely gorgeous and looking brand new.
The bedroom was clean but a bit dated looking, a little worn around the edges. The bed was against the wall of the corridor, not really what you want, and every time anyone walked past you could hear every word, and the floor creaked as anyone moved past. Not good for a married couple enjoying a romantic night away!!! Fantastic view, right over the lake.

Only used the restaurant for breakfast as we went out for night in Windermere Village, veyr beautiful looking, and breakfast was very nice. They also have a cafe bar, a cocktail bar etc, and a massive chill out reception area with tea and coffee making machines, overlooking the lake.

The swimming pool was gorgeous, but not as big as it looks on the site, and the gym was ok, not the best selction of equipment but clean and in good working order.

I have a friend who stayed and for same price got a much better room, so I suppsoe it does stay what room you get. I would not want my husband and I to be put in that room again, we had no privacy at all. Definitely not a honeymoon room!!!
