To be honest the accommodation was fine , however I was a little disappointed with our room ( very small, tiny tv and no bath ) the bed was very spacious and comfy and the staff where courteous . Just feel it was a little overpriced for what I was getting.
We stayed here for 1 night in the kilnhow room and was slightly disappointed having expected 5 star. The room was small and the little touches to make it 5 star where not there. For example a cheap TV on the wall not put up straight. The bathroom was a good size and the shower excellent. The location of this B&B was also excellent as just a short stroll in to Windermere and a 15 minute walk into the more lively Bowness. Staff were polite and hard working. We just felt that for the price we expected slightly more, having stayed in 4 star B&Bs in this area for cheaper and by our opinion better quality.
We stayed at the Howbeck for one night for our anniversary. We had the Mickleden room which is at the back of the hotel on the ground floor. It is a lovely light room which looked out onto the magnolia tree which was in full bloom.
The room and bathroom were very clean and the nice touch of a decanter of sherry. The spa bath was just what was needed after a day walking in the Lakes!
There is an honesty bar in the residents lounge and all tastes in drinks were catered for.
There was a good choice for breakfast which was ordered the night before. The breakfast was plentiful and hot.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
We have visited the Lakes many times before and would definitely recommend the Howbeck and hope to return again soon!
Stayed two night's at The Retreat at Howbeck. Booked direct arriving a couple of hours after we'd made our booking! Kindly greeted on arrival and shown around our accomodation. Complimentary decanter of sherry in our room, fairy lights above our bed and scattered rose petals. The Retreat is privately located at the rear of the building. Beautifully appointed throughout. Patio doors lead to a private terrace with table and chairs, a tumbling fountain and illuminated coach lights creating a warm, tranquil relaxing space perfect for al fresco dining or evening drinks. Well maintained, clean and spacious room with dining table and chairs, sofa, tv, minibar, walk in wardrobe, kettle, hospitality tray - extremely well equipped. The Retreat has a beautiful large bathroom which boasts a double jetted air bath, mood lighting, tv, double shower and quality fluffy towels and bathrobes. Breakfast is pre-booked the day before and served as room service direct to your door at your chosen time. Simply select menu choice and time and post in reception. The full english breakfasts were great! Staff very professional, courteous and ensured we enjoyed our stay nothing was too much trouble. Accomodation, staff, food, location, cleanliness, car park on site, tops marks 10/10 we could not fault The Howbeck. A perfect, memorable stay in the Lakes. Happy to recommend The Howbeck and would definately return. Thank you to the kind staff that welcomed and looked after us during our stay - a very pleasant birthday away. Book The Retreat you won't be disappointed.
Went to The Howbeck for a 2 night stay over Easter weekend. Room was lovely and spacious, bed comfortable. Both bedroom and ensuite were clean and well-kept. Staff were all friendly and polite and food was very nice with a good choice at breakfast. Would return. Many thanks for a lovely break.
