“4 nights of bliss”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

My wife and I spend 4 splendid nights at this stunning hotel last week (28th October). Although we booked late and would have preferred a room with fell or lake views, the room we had was clean and tidy and met all our needs for the 4 days we were there. The staff are friendly, helpful and nothing seems too much trouble for them. Thanks to Danny and all staff (sorry I didn’t get all your names) for such great service and banter.
I must mention the food – With my job over the years, I have stayed in many hotels and eaten in many good restaurants but none with such consistently exquisite food as that at Merewood. All four days produced a dining experience the like I had not experienced before - I could not believe a cauliflower soup (sorry! - veloute) could taste so good and the scallops with belly pork is to die for. Breakfast is also of the same high standard with the Eggs Benedict my favourite. Just be careful you do not eat too much if you are going walking – this served as a good excuse to the wife the first day only ;-)
Thanks again to everybody at Merewood. We will definitely be coming back

Spent a very enjoyable two nights at this hotel. The room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfy. I don't sleep too well but had a good couple of nights sleep here. The food is excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The staff were unobtrusive and not pushy, there if you needed them and asking if everything was ok at the right time, i.e. when clearing plates away at the end of a course, not while you are eating.
It felt as though you were living the Downton Abbey life as the hotel is very much a country house and has the feel of a by gone era but with mod cons.
This hotel is definitely worth many visits.

My wife and I attended a friends wedding here, the room was booked on our behalf by the wedding party. We were slightly shocked by the room rate on arrival but I can assure you it really is worth every penny.
The wedding was faultless, the food exceptional and the staff were attentive and eager to please.
We spent one night in the bar relaxing and we were pleasantly surprised at the well stocked bar.
The rooms are very well appointed with comfortable beds and a good shower. The complimentary toiletries are of a great quality and smell delightful...
The setting of of this country house is truely breath taking...we only spent two nights but will be returning.

My husband and I were married at the Merewood Country House Hotel in August 2012 and had THE best day of our lives. We couldn't ask for a more perfect venue to hold our wedding and our guests are still talking about it 2 months on. Some even saying they'd like their weddings here too! It was relaxed and friendly, but run with style and precision. The day we viewed the hotel was the worst, wettest, windiest day in January and the view from the lounge bar and the bedrooms overlooking the lake was still mystical. We couldn't have asked for more attentive staff, from booking the venue, right up to the night before and on the day itself. Helen, Joe and the team were on hand at all times and couldn't do enough for us. They even helped to calm the nerves on the morning of the wedding. As for the food, this was first class. Our guests were very impressed with how delicious and beautifully presented it was. We can't recommend The Merewood enough. We enjoyed our stay so much that we didn't want to leave.

Room Tip: The bedrooms on the front are spacious and have amazing views of the lake.

My girlfriend and I have just come back from a lovely weekend at the Merewood Country House Hotel.

First of all DO NOT follow your sat nav to the destination - it takes you to a place called Kirk Road. The Merewood is the next right after the sat nav (if heading towards Ambleside) tells you to turn off.

When we arrived at the hotel it looked absolutely stunning especially with the sloped water fountain on the lawn. Check-in was pretty painless and we headed up to our room which was very cosy, clean and had plenty of the necesseties (towels, good quality toiletries and biscuits!). We had dinner in the hotel the first night - I'm so glad we did as it was absolutely beautiful. The highlights were definitely the cream of onion soup and the gorgeous fillet beef.

We mooched around the hotel on our second day and then took a boat trip on the lakes to the nearest town - Ambleside. This is easily done by car but we felt that we should take a trip out on the lake.

We had dinner elsewhere the second night as we didn't want to have fine dining two nights in a row. Upon checkout the following day, the lovely staff came up with a list of things for us to do and see before we headed home on our arduous journey south.

Breakfast on both mornings was gorgeous. Eggs Benedict was scrumptious and the English breakfast was very well done too.

Overall the hotel was faultless. I think it offers absolutely excellent value for money and you will not be disappointed if you book yourself in for a relaxing night or two.

We have had two short stays at the MEREWOOD this year and have nothing but praise. The hotel is elegant but totally unstuffy. The staff are delightful and the food, both breakfast and dinner is of high quality and well presented We have had two rooms at the front of the house and both have been large, comfortabl and nicely furnished. They have lovely views but do not expect a full-on lake panorama, there are too many trees for that. Room 2 was particularly nice. A return visit is highly likely.

My husband and I got married at The Merewood last December and have just been back for an overnight stay 7th October. I cannot express enough how perfect The Merewood is for a wedding venue, it's so lovely to have somewhere to so beautiful to go back to which holds such great memories. The staff are very attentive and friendly and food is fabulous. I Highly recommend it!
