Took a conference group of thirty for a midweek dinner at the Merewood. Got a discount by pre-ordering food from a really excellent set of menu choices, which also ensured a smooth service. Staff were great, four course meal was outstanding quality and value and venue is lovely. Only gripe - the piano in the lounge badly needs tuning!

Stayed here 2/3/4 November for the wedding of Richard & Helen. We were in room 7 which has a double bed with a half canopy. Oh and by the way a view of Lake Windermere and the hills to die for! Very large comfortable room, with a big en suite bathroom. Had a very good sleep. Couple of minor points we are used to a king size bed and this was a double so we thought could do with upgrading to a larger one. The room definitely could accommodate as its huge. Plus a power shower would be good as the one in the bathroom was a little weak on the flow of water. Minor points but worthy of note. There is a settee in the room to sit and admire the views at any time. The hotel sits on a high point above the lake.
The staff are fantastic. Lorna and Joe make you seem like their best friends from the minute you walk in to reception where a roaring log fire was blazing. Open fires and beautiful wood panelling are a feature of this hotel. All the waiting staff/bar staff and reception coudnt do enough for you, and the extra mile was always being attained. The bar always got your drinks quickly and efficiently.
Breakfast the first morning was superb full english with some of the best coffee i have ever had in a hotel. Possibly the local water helps with that? Didnt try the black pudding but some said was a little too fat and not crisp. Not being a black pudding aficianado I dont know!
The Wedding Breakfast was worthy of Michelin Star food and the chefs need a pat on the back.
Despite running almost an hour late ( Bride's fault!! for being late at the church) the food was excellent and Lorna managed to get us back on time seamlessly.
Joe made a brilliant Master of Ceremonies and we all said can we do it again please. In fact the Bride and Groom said could they be a guest next time!
All in all can thoroughly recommend this hotel for a Lakes visit with plenty of luxury. There are various rooms to relax in, and excellent for any stay but especially a wedding with that touch of glitz. Think of the best edwardian drama and you in it!

Room Tip: Room 2 or Room 7 for the biggest rooms with the best lake views

We just spent three nights here for a wedding.
The staff were brilliant very friendly and we felt like it was home from home.
Our TV reception wasn't too brilliant, but you got free wifi.
Food was spot on, even when catering for 80 or so guests at the wedding, it came out perfectly cooked and hot!
Well done

My wife and I spend 4 splendid nights at this stunning hotel last week (28th October). Although we booked late and would have preferred a room with fell or lake views, the room we had was clean and tidy and met all our needs for the 4 days we were there. The staff are friendly, helpful and nothing seems too much trouble for them. Thanks to Danny and all staff (sorry I didn’t get all your names) for such great service and banter.
I must mention the food – With my job over the years, I have stayed in many hotels and eaten in many good restaurants but none with such consistently exquisite food as that at Merewood. All four days produced a dining experience the like I had not experienced before - I could not believe a cauliflower soup (sorry! - veloute) could taste so good and the scallops with belly pork is to die for. Breakfast is also of the same high standard with the Eggs Benedict my favourite. Just be careful you do not eat too much if you are going walking – this served as a good excuse to the wife the first day only ;-)
Thanks again to everybody at Merewood. We will definitely be coming back

Spent a very enjoyable two nights at this hotel. The room was clean and tidy and the bed was comfy. I don't sleep too well but had a good couple of nights sleep here. The food is excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The staff were unobtrusive and not pushy, there if you needed them and asking if everything was ok at the right time, i.e. when clearing plates away at the end of a course, not while you are eating.
It felt as though you were living the Downton Abbey life as the hotel is very much a country house and has the feel of a by gone era but with mod cons.
This hotel is definitely worth many visits.

My wife and I attended a friends wedding here, the room was booked on our behalf by the wedding party. We were slightly shocked by the room rate on arrival but I can assure you it really is worth every penny.
The wedding was faultless, the food exceptional and the staff were attentive and eager to please.
We spent one night in the bar relaxing and we were pleasantly surprised at the well stocked bar.
The rooms are very well appointed with comfortable beds and a good shower. The complimentary toiletries are of a great quality and smell delightful...
The setting of of this country house is truely breath taking...we only spent two nights but will be returning.

My husband and I were married at the Merewood Country House Hotel in August 2012 and had THE best day of our lives. We couldn't ask for a more perfect venue to hold our wedding and our guests are still talking about it 2 months on. Some even saying they'd like their weddings here too! It was relaxed and friendly, but run with style and precision. The day we viewed the hotel was the worst, wettest, windiest day in January and the view from the lounge bar and the bedrooms overlooking the lake was still mystical. We couldn't have asked for more attentive staff, from booking the venue, right up to the night before and on the day itself. Helen, Joe and the team were on hand at all times and couldn't do enough for us. They even helped to calm the nerves on the morning of the wedding. As for the food, this was first class. Our guests were very impressed with how delicious and beautifully presented it was. We can't recommend The Merewood enough. We enjoyed our stay so much that we didn't want to leave.

Room Tip: The bedrooms on the front are spacious and have amazing views of the lake.
