The only reason I gave 4/5 and not 5/5 is I love the sister hotel Cragwood a bit better.! Merewood has beautiful grounds and within easy walking distance to the centre of Windermere (2.5miles). Lovely bedroom and ensuite would recommend to anyone.

We stayed for our Son"s wedding in April. We loved every minute we were there & nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We highly recommend this hotel and cannot praise them enough. We have visited for Sunday lunch quite a few times & went to the New Year's Eve party & every time it's been wonderful. All the staff are superb, the food is first class and they have certainly reached perfection. We couldn't find one thing that we could say as recommendation for improvement. They said they wanted us to feel like it was our house for the weekend and we really did. Having the whole hotel exclusive made it really special. My husband & I stayed on the Sunday night after the wedding & there was only us in the hotel. We offered to eat out that evening but they wouldn't hear if it and gave us full choice of their delicious menu. The following morning they set us a special table in the Library, lit the fire and again gave us full choice of breakfast. They made us feel like royalty. The above comments don't even take account of the beautiful setting, immaculate gardens and views of the lake and hills. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated and our room had fantastic views. If you want a special wedding or a few days away look no further than the Merewood you won't be disappointed. Special mention to lLorna & Jenny - thank you so much - hope to visit again soon and to book for New Year.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms are worth the extra

Loved the Merewood with one exception: the "double" bed in our large and beautiful room was too narrow and too short. No doubt a genuine antique but only suitable if a couple is very short and very, very thin (and very friendly, too). I think bed size is one concession to modernity the Merewood could make.

The restaurant was excellent both in the evening and for breakfast.

Gorgeous property. The mountains of rhododendrons were in bloom and despite the chilly and rainy weather, it was well worth taking a stroll in the extensive, majestic gardens.

Stayed two nights here for a family wedding. From the moment we booked in until leaving it was an absolute pleasure. Lovely building and grounds, so peaceful and quiet. Staff so helpful and friendly. Food of excellent quality. Room 1 excellent and very comfy and clean. Perhaps the bathroom could benefit from a better shower but nothing detracted from an excellent stay. The bar bill surprisingly reasonable given the prices in and around Windermere. Enjoyed it so much my wife and I have booked for Christmas and cannot wait. Bring it on!

Stayed at the Merewood for a wedding. Everything down to every small detail was brilliant. Food was lovely, staff can't do enough for you rooms and grounds are as beautiful as the location which the hotel is in. Would go back in a blink, without question!

We took advantage of a special offer and were more than delighted with the service and quality which we experienced. The evening meal was memorable for it's quality and presentation. likened to fine dining which we have had in the past. With the standard set at this hotel it will please anyone wishing for excellence in the beautiful lake district. Congratulations to all the staff. WELL DONE!

I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. I have visited this hotel several times now and never been disappointed with anything from the reception staff to the hotel room, everything was exceptional. The evening meal in the hotel restaurant was absolutely amazing, it was like eating in a Michelin starred restaurant with amazing flavours and quality of food. The pea and coconut soup was to die for with outstanding flavours, smooth and delicious. The sticky toffee pudding was as you would expect in the Lakes, delicious. The breakfast too was lovely with a lovely choice and exceptional service. Will definitely keep coming back to this beautiful hotel. The only thing missing is fluffy dressing gowns but that's just my opinion.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and book a room with a view of the Lake.
