We arrived to a very warm welcome and shown to our room straight away which was on the 1st floor oevrlooking the lake and what a view, stunning. Dinner was fantastic, the attention to detail was great. Sat on the terrace after dinner watching the sun set with a bottle of wine, can't think of a better place to relax.

We stayed on a Saturday night, upgraded to a superior room with jacuzzi bath, 4 poster bed and a lake view.

Check in was ok, nice and smooth, arranged to have flowers delivered to the hotel, they were kept nice and cool in the cellar for me.

Bedroom was nice and big, king size four poster bed, lake view was amazing however could have done with a thorough clean, cobwebs on the wall fittings and light bulbs that had blown. Our jacuzzi bath was also broken.

Dinner was lovely, good service, food was of a good quality and standard. You sit at the same table for breakfast and that too was plentyful and delicious.

All in all it's a nice hotel although a bit dated in the public areas, I don't think we would go back simply because there is so much more out there.

Our 2 night stay didn't get off to a good start when we were shown to a smallish ground floor room with the only window directly overlooking the main entrance door.(we would have to have kept the curtains closed for any privacy at all) However, upon requesting another room we were straight away offered a room in the annexe which we happily accepted. This room had lovely views and quite a bit more space. The only downside was the shower which wasn't terribly hot or powerful (more like a trickle). The food was delicious and the staff very attentive and polite. We particularly enjoyed sitting by the open fire in one of the lounges after dinner . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay -the staff try really hard to please guests and this more than makes up for any 'niggles'.

We arrived at the hotel at the requested booking in time of 2pm to a warm and friendly welcome from polite staff . After a very quick and painless booking in we were shown the hotels communial areas, restaurant, lounge, swimming pool and bar. Then we were shown to our room by one of the staff where we recieved a full description on the rooms facilities. The rooms furniture consisted of a lovely comfortable four poster bed, a reasonably sized table with 2 chairs by a large window with what would of been a cracking view if it wasn't for the misty day. The bathroom stocked with 'The White Company' toiletries [georgous] was fully tiled with modern furniture and a bath you could loose yourself in, great. A cooler was also in the room big enough for a few bottles of plonk, cans etc. There was a reasonable amount of storage space for clothing and opening the wardrobe led to a nice surprise of two bath robes with matching towelling flip flops. A large flat screen tv with dvd player on a modern table with working remotes for both [dvd's available from reception to borrow]. Ample tea, coffee, hot chocolate and busciuts. Room service available including morning papers, a special breakfast [champers etc @ £26] or dinner available in your room at reasonable extra cost of £10. The room was spotless.
We booked the evening meal at 7:30pm, we arrived on time and were immediately showm to our table by the staff. Food was served with little waiting time and finished courses plates removed quickly. Evening meals are 5 courses, starter, intermediate, main, sweet and tea or coffee. Beautiful mouth watering food cooked to perfection, with portions just the right size to allow you enjoy all 5 courses. Tea or coffee can be taken in the restaurant, bar or lounge. The evening meal menu changes nightly. Recommendations on food....well everything actually. Breakfast is served on the same table with a full selection of fruits, fruit juices, cerials, yogurt and cooked food available. The meal timings are very generous and you never feel rushed.
The bar prices are reasonable for a hotel in windermere.
Although we never used the pool or sauna they looked well kept and very clean. Key to pool and extra towels available from reception on request.
On leaving the hotel we were kindly showm other rooms in the hotel so we could make a choice for our next stay. All rooms were differently decorated and some bigger than others with better views but all nicely decorated with modern bathrooms and very clean. Prices vary from room to room. Overall, a very big thankyou to all the staff at the Hillthwaite House Hotel for making our stay in your lovely hotel very relaxing and pleasurable.

This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel and yet again it did not disappoint. We took advantage of their 'three nights DB&B for the price of two'. It is excellent value for money. The staff are all so welcoming, friendly and efficient, the food really is 5 star and our room was so cosy and beautifully furnished. Although the swimming pool is small and not really designed for the serious long distance swimmer(!!), the sauna and steam room are there to relax in afterwards. The hotel is set on a hillside and only a short walk from the centre of Windermere itself. As there is so much to see and enjoy in the surrounding area we will definitely be returning to Hillthwaite again. Thanks to you all for again ensuring we had a most welcome and relaxing break.

Given a box room at the top of the hotel even we told them my husband has bad health found out that some people were paying a £100 pounds less than us and they had much better rooms no apology for the fire alarm being set off by staff the food very indifferent
staff tried very hard and very pleasant but the language barrier made getting thing changed
difficult. Will not be returning

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at Hillthwaite, there is no point in waffling on about everything, superb in every way is sufficient. The staff are a credit to the hotel and are attentive without being intrusive.

We had our labrador with us and whilst many hotels accept dogs once you get there the attitude is very different, but he was made very welcome and made many new friends!

We are hoping to return as soon as possible, which is not something we tend to do unless we have been really impressed.
