“lovely stay, peaceful night's sleep and a fab breakfast the next morning!”
Reviewed 18 April 2011

my boyfriend and i stayed here for one night, on a weekend away in windermere. we had a great stay at the ravensworth and would definitely recommend this place. when we arrived, after being shown around and to our room, we were welcomed with a tray of tea/coffee and home made muffins after our 3 hour journey, which we thought was a lovely touch! our room was great, the bed comfy (had a great night's sleep) and the house/surroundings peaceful at night. breakfast the next morning was fab - loads of choice (cereals, pastries, juices, fresh fruit, toast, breads, spreads/jams, and a great choice of cooked breakfast options). as well as the usual 'full english' cooked breakfast on offer, there were some great other cooked options, such as scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and eggs benedict if i recall.. i was craving the full english, which was great! it was cooked to order and we were able to pick and choose what we wanted (choice of eggs etc). the only extra thing we both would have chosen as well would have been some baked beans with it, which weren't on the menu. owners were great - friendly, welcoming, good to chat to and helped us out with suggesting a route to take to our hot air balloon flight launch site (the main purpose of out trip). this route was the kirkstone pass which was a fantastic drive for scenery - really recommended!! they also recommended to us a great thai restaurant just around the corner in windermere - the thai brasserie i think it was called, and the food there was lovely! the staff working at the ravensworth were also really friendly too. thanks for a great stay and we'll definitely look at staying again if/when we come back to windermere!

Thank you for your comments, it's a shame you only had time for 1 night's stay with us. We take great pride in our B&B and it's great to get such complementary reviews. For breakfasts, we work on the principle of giving our guests as many options as possible, and then if they are staying with us for a few nights or more, they will have the chance of a different breakfast each morning. Our Cumbrian Grill comprises of totally local produce and is hugely popular. We look forward to welcoming you back here soon.

We have just returned from our second trip to The Ravensworth and I must say it was absolutely fab! I have never known hospitality like it...what a wonderful greeting. I had pre ordered a cake for our anniversary that was in the room waiting as planned (and was gorgeous). The room was to a very high standard, very clean and the bed was massive and comfortable. I couldn't fault anything about our stay and the service we received...thank you Cheryl and Nick - look forward to returning soon.

Just returned home from our 2nd trip to the ravensworth. Thank you for another great stay. This time we booked a superior 4 poster room. It was extremely comfortable, spacious and homely with some nice modern touches.

We arrived fairly early in the day and was met by Nick the owner. He was very courteous and although our room wasn't quite ready, took care of our luggage whilst we went for an early lunch.

The service staff were very friendly and attentive at breakfast. Great to see porridge on the menu - super start on a cold and frosty morning. Our hot drinks were kept topped up until cooked breakfast arrived.

My wife and I will definitely return - but perhaps next year when the weather is a bit warmer....

having booked this a few weeks ago to celebrate my partners birthday, we were really looking forward to a break away from 4 kids! handy location, and friendly welcome. lovely cosy room, with special touches and very clean. food was lovely, ample and served by friendly efficient staff.
my only real complaint was the message waiting for me at home, requesting the teddy bear back that the owner knew was in the room prior to our arrival,or a payment of £10!!! there was never a bear in the room, and when i phoned back to explain this, i was told not to worry about it. However, I never received an apology for the message and phone call in the first place! We would never take something from a room, and did not appreciate the implied reference that we would. we took great offence at this, and are really saddened that this has put us off returning, to what is a lovely place.

Having stayed three nights at the end of October, this fab little B&B is highly recommended. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with friendly, happy, smiley staff who couldn't do enough to help. The four poster room was as expected and described and had lots of the required amenities.... plenty of tea/coffee/milk, bottle opener, hairdryer etc etc that you don't often find. Easy to find and easy to get to/from Windermere in a couple of minutes by foot. The breakfasts were excellent with attentive staff and a wide range to choose from. Other nice touches included a note being left on the bed to remind us that the clocks went back that night were really good and sets this place apart from other similar accommodation i've stayed in. Highly recommended, although the bathroom was a little small and getting in and out of the bath required a bit of dexterity - would benefit from just a corner shower unit (sling the bath!) and create a seemingly bigger bathroom. All in all, though, a fabulous stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Thanks for a lovely break!

Yeltzer. thank you so much for your comments and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. For reference for future guests, we have now 'ditched' the baths in 9 of our rooms and replaced them with showers, the remaining rooms are scheduled for refurbishment in November this year. We took over the guesthouse 2 1/2 years ago now and have gradually been working our way around, by Christmas this year we will have refurbished all the bedrooms, the dining room and the resident's lounge. Time for a breather in January. Many Thanks, Nick & Cheryl

We stayed just one night at the Ravensworth on our first trip to Windermere. We stayed in one of the superior four-poster rooms. The room was not terribly large, but it was very nicely furnished and the bed was huge and extremely comfortable. Really lovely touches such as the bath robes, delicious real coffee in the room, and nice toiletries. The breakfast next morning was absolutely brilliant, cooked to order. We were really pleased to find such high standards for a very reasonable price.

After booking this hotel for our anniversary (What I thought was the last Four Poster Double Room according the the internet) we were looking forward to getting away. We arrived at the hotel and the owners father (I think) took us to our room. It was the last room in the annexe beside the main road. Got in, no four poster bed, bog standard double. The guy left us and we quickly realised the room had not been cleaned or the bed changed, nice.....
We trailed back up to reception and all we got was "Oh we are short staffed" We had to go out until they got the room sorted. No mention of tea & cake as other reviewers had had.
Shower was luke warm and trickled.

Nice for some people but I will not book this hotel again. VERY disappointed. Didn't even see the owner, gave a waiter our key when we checked out.

We are really sorry that this guest did not enjoy their stay here with us and to be honest, we are not convinced that they did stay here. On the weekend in question, we certainly were not 'short staffed' and we would never have stated this even if it were true. The guests were expecting a four poster bed in their annexe room, which is impossible as the only four poster bed we have in the guest house is in the main part of the building. The 'bog standard' double bed that is referred to, would actually have been a Super King Size bed, (2 singles zipped together as the room can also be sold as a twin) so again we question the validity of this review.

All that we can ask is that future guests please look at all the reviews on here and as you will be able to see, this review is certainly a one off. Can we add that we guarantee our rooms to be available from 2pm on the day of your arrival. You are welcome to arrive from 11am as your keys will be available if you would like to drop off luggage or your car so you can make the most of your first day with us.
