We found this by chance and just dropped in. We were very pleasantly surprised. A warm welcome, comfortable rooms, and a good night's sleep. The full English breakfast the following morning was excellent.

Room Tip: Choose a room opening onto the gardens

Utilised Travelzoo vouchers on our recent visit to this hotel, my wife and I stayed for two nights in early July. Whilst the weather was not ideal, the hotel certainly was. Everything was found to be excellent, from the staff especially Margaret, for who nothing was too much trouble, her energy and enthusiasm were boundless, she exemplified outstanding customer service.
Peaceful grounds, tranquil setting, good quality bedrooms, very high quality food, from breakfast to evening meal.
Location of hotel ideal for access to Windermere, Ambleside etc.
Drinks prices we found to be reasonable, and am surprised at other reviewers comments re prices.Parking was plentiful, very close to properly.
Would certainly return, and recommend to others.

Room Tip: Have a number of ground floor rooms, with direct access to grounds, albeit a few indoor steps to neg...

Stayed here when I proposed to my now fiancé, they were brilliant and upgraded the room and sorted out some flowers for me. Food was nice and served promptly. Massive thanks to the guys at Briery Wood Hotel on making it an even more memorable stay.

We spent two days here in June as part of our Lake District stopover. Rodger at the front desk was very professional and pleasant as were all the staff we interacted with. Our room was on the first floor in the main part of the hotel. It was surprisingly spacious with a splendid view of the beautiful grounds. Free wifi in the lounge. The hot breakfast= buffet + cooked option was pretty good. If you don't have a car then you have a choice of walking about a mile and a half to Ambleside where they have lots of dining options. This is a very enjoyable walk along the lake front, though do be warned that the sidewalk disappears suddenly in places and you have to cross the road to the other side, a somewhat dangerous process as cars seem to travel pretty fast and there are no traffic lights or pedestrian crossings in the area. The other option is to walk about 1/2 km the other way towards Windermere and catch the bus in front of the amusement park. Ambleside has lots of good restaurant options. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is set back from the road between Windermere and Ambleside, very convenient for strolling to the Brockhole visitor centre (well worth a visit). We received a friendly greeting and all staff were helpful. The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained and include the most impressive monkey puzzle tree we have ever seen.
Inside, the hotel has an inviting, homely lived-in feel. We had a large bedroom and bathroom, with a spa bath. The towels and bed linen were spotlessly clean and white. The bathroom was also well supplied with complimentary toiletries. Breakfast is served between 8.30 and 9.30. On the first morning we went down at 9.00 to find the dining room really busy but tables are allocated to rooms so there is no worry about not getting a place. We had to wait a while for our cooked breakfast but it arrived freshly cooked, plentiful and satisfying. The evening meal was also well worth waiting for.
The hotel is clearly very pet-friendly and there were several dogs and their owners staying, taking advantage of the extensive grounds to exercise their pets. So, a good hotel if you are a dog lover.
We were staying on a Travelzoo deal and, at the price, it was excellent value for money.

Hello Lancestrian,
Thank you for your review & all your lovely comments.
The monkey puzzle tree has been mentioned as one of the best in the North West if not all of the UK.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay & hope you will visit again soon.

Just returned from the Briery Wood Hotel after a mid-week stay, and wanted to pass on our recommendation to others. We booked through Travelzoo and felt we had a real bargain. Really pleasant, relaxed atmosphere for our English setter, so we didn't have to worry - met other dogs in the garden each evening. And the evening meals and breakfast were superb - good choices, varied menus and beautifully cooked. Will return!

We stayed here on a two night Travelzoo deal with afternoon tea, glass of fizz and dinner the first night and we also booed a further night bed and breakfast.

The stay was great value for money. The dinner was absolutely wonderful - we had steak - the best steak I have had for a long time - so tender and perfectly cooked.

The breakfasts were also great - buffet service for the cereals, fruit, croissants etc but a cooked breakfast to order so it was piping hot rather than buffet style which sometimes means cold food.

The room itself was initially rather disappointing as it looked out over a high hedge so very little light came in. However once the curtains were drawn, this was not so bad and the bed was very comfortable. the bathroom was clean and spacious with a heated towel rail and lovely large fluffy white towels. The only down side to the bathroom was that the bath side was rather high and I was unable to get in without my husband's help - a grab rail on the wall would be very useful.

Another slight gripe was that when I called to book the additional room, I specifically requested a room without too many steps as my husband walks with a stick and finds stairs difficult. We were on the ground floor but at the back so we had several short flights of steps to get to our room.

Also there was no dedicated disabled parking so on our return from a drive during our stay we had to park on the lower level which meant a steep slope to climb to get to the hotel entrance.

There was free Wi-Fi in the lounge area which also sometimes was available just outside on the patio area.

The gardens were very well kept.

However on balance the stay was most enjoyable- enhanced by the most wonderful weather and we would be more than happy to visit again.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms had door access to the garden but these seem to be taken over by dog owners.

Hello BigTripperToo,
Thank you for your review.
Unfortunately all our ground floor rooms have steps to them as the hotel is built into the hill.
We are always ready to help with luggage & parking the car as we always have a space available near the hotel.
We look forward to welcoming you again to the hotel.
