“Cosy and warm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014 via mobile

This was our second stay at Briery Wood, we arrived late and were lucky to get a room. Reception staff were very friendly, and the room appointed and a decent size. Unfortunately it felt as if the heating was on under the floor - and with the outside temperature being unusally warm the room felt sweltering. The bed was comfortable, the TV seemed pretty small for a room this size, and the bathroom well appointed with grooming amenities. The breakfast was mediocre, took over half an hour to arrive, and the selection of fruits, cereals and pastries fairly sparse. Overall not a bad place overnight.

we stayed here for two nights in June on a Travel Zoo deal was brilliant, staff so helpful and friendly, food superb and room clean and spacious. I enjoyed also the gardens to sit in as nice weather and was ideal. Location perfect to get to bowness and windermere. Only a 15 minute drive to bowness.

Room Tip: room 23 a spacious room

We stayed in 3 rooms for the Great North Swim this week-end on the Dinner Bed and Breakfast Rates - (but noticed I paid more than is shown on the website...naughty) - the hotel was fine, big rooms, very clean and tidy - the comments about being a little worn did not matter to us. - Food was very nice BUT... the meal times esp. breakfast is quite restrictive - especially for a great north swim weekend - only 8.30 - 9.30 - they did bring cereals and tea / coffee out when we queried this (as there were a lot of people going out at 7.30 - 8 in the morning) the staff did their best and made toast, but could not get cooked breakfast for the non swimmers as the chef not there - perhaps if they advertise for the swim week-end they should extend the meal time? - We will look to book for next year - but only once I have checked their website rates, as for two rooms we paid quite a bit more..

and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.Lucky enough to have two garden rooms with a lovely outside patio area where we could sit and admire the gardens and watch the rabbits hopping around.Bedrooms were furnished to a very high standard with crisp linen and we had a spacious bathroom .All spotlessly clean.Lounge areas in need of refurbishment but pleasant and relaxing all the same.Dinner was really excellent and great value for what we had.Breakfast made to order again absolutely fine.Staff were all really pleasant and helpful .The young waiter particularly went out of his way to ensure we had a good time.Regarding previous posts about "lack of atmosphere" I dont feel this is anything to do with the hotel .I believe you make your own entertainment. The ambience in country house hotels can be quiet and subdued as another post has mentioned.

Room Tip: Rooms 1,2 and 3 have an outsdie terrace and sitting area

I have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Briery Wood Hotel. The hotel staff were all friendly and helpful. The room I was allocated was of a good standard. It was very clean, with good quality linen on the bed and in the bathroom. A good choice of food for both breakfast and dinner was offered and the food was of a high standard and well cooked for the four meals which I enjoyed there. All in all, a very good hotel, well maintained and in superb grounds which are also well maintained.

We stayed here in March this year. The rooms are all lovely as I had a peak in the morning as they were being cleaned. Some have been very recently refurbished and have brand new bathrooms which are very nice indeed and everywhere is spotlessly clean. Big comfortable beds and peace and quiet . Referring to other comments; Country House Hotels by their nature can be rather stuffy and a little posh (and we have stayed in many around the lake, Briery Wood is not) and can have a rather quiet and restrained atmosphere which is possibly most apparent in the dining room or bar where people are gathered . if you want a different livelier ambience then go to a busy restaurant in Bowness or Ambleside of which there are plenty. Others have mentioned the wear in a few places on the hall and stair carpet which again I am sure will be part of the overall renovations in due course and does not detract at all from all the positives of your stay. We stayed on a two night deal and I don't know how they did it for the money, we have stayed in B&Bs in the area as well that have cost almost as much per night as we paid for two. We had a garden room and brought our dog and we will return. Only one suggestion and that is that bedside lamps would greatly improve bedtime reading.

This was our first time at Briery Wood. As soon as we arrived the receptionist was very friendly, and after checking in she showed us to our room. The room was clean, bright and we had a lovely view of the gardens, which were well maintained.
The hotel bar area was very quiet, even early evening when we had our evening meal here people where whispering . The staff in the restaurant where very polite, and attentive.
After our evening meal we headed out just to be somewhere with an atmosphere, as the bar area was dead. Such a big hotel and nobody around!! We decided we'd eat elsewhere on the second evening, and headed in to Bowness.
Our breakfast both morning's were good with plenty of choice, a few more people in the restaurant too.
Not sure whether we would stay here again, the hotel is nice in certain parts but lacks a little tlc in others, and as I've mentioned earlier in my review lacking an atmosphere.
