“Wonderful Hotel, beautiful location.”

We have just had a 3 night midweek special break, at this wonderful hotel. We had such a fantastic time that we could not bear to leave, so stayed an extra night. The 4 poster room in the older part of the hotel has magnificent views over the lake and to the mountains beyond. It is tastefuly furnished ,the bed very comfortable, and the bath enormous! The food is to die for, with the menu changing every night. The friendly staff ensured a warm and relaxed atmosphere. We can't wait to go back!

Had a three night mid-week break in this hotel. The room was spacious and the four poster bed comfy. The staff were helpful and friendly whilst being unobtrusive. The food was superb with a good choice every evening. I would reccommend this hotel to any-one and will definitely stay again. The only thing that needs attention is the leather Chesterfield suite in one of the lounges, a little tlc required.

My daughter's wedding reception was held at Cragwood over the weekend of August 20, and enjoyed the most fantastic service from manager and his team. They could not have been more helpful and more courteous from initial discussions and booking of the event in 2010 right through to the reception itself. Cragwood has a fantastic location on the shores of Lake Windermere, and the accommodation is excellent. All of the guests were hugely impressed with the venue, and the meal and service was just exemplary; many of the guests praised the food as the best they had enjoyed at any large event where the chefs and service staff must meet the requirements of a large number of people simultaneously. This is often when standards start to suffer but not at Cragwood - they all did a superb job and earned a huge thank you from the Nelson and Middlebrook families.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking Lake Windermere are not necessarily the best appointed but enjoy breathtaking...

Having stayed here a week ago for 3 nights on my own, purely for the purposes of walking on the nearby fells, I was initially dismayed with the impression that one needed a car to either get there or leave. This impression soon dispelled though by a helpful waitress at breakfast, who pointed me to the boat station right next door to the hotel - in a touristy Lake District Visitors Centre, from where one could get a ferry into Ambleside or along the lake to Bowness.

My stay in the hotel was v quiet - to say the staff are unobtrusive is perhaps an understatement. They only appear when you want them or ring a bell, making you feel that its actually a large deserted B&B. The B&B feeling is reinforced at dinner, where the food is plentiful and heavy (for my tastes). The dining room is like someones home dining room and its easy to feel a little uncomfortable as if intruding on a someone else's quaint domestic scene.

The rooms are excellent and clean (certainly 5 star standard) and the service good when needed. Its ideal for someone who wants that "i'm not in a hotel" feel. I enjoyed the stay and would probably go back again. After a day walking in the fells though, its sometimes nice to have a little more life and bustle around you in the evening.

I hesitate to say the hotel is inexpensive, as thats usually taken by the management as an invitation to bump up the prices, but for someone used to staying in good hotels, paying £200 for 3 nights stay including breakfast and dinner everyday (and a few large scotches) is a bargain.

Well how delighted were we to have found this place. Well equipped room, very comfortable superking size bed, fantastic breakfast (the porridge is to die for!) and the staff were all without exception so pleasant, friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and the views from the gardens/lounges are stunning. We will definitely be going back.

The hotel is right by the lake with a delightful garden. We spent an enjoyable three night break here. We found it well placed to walk from or to drive to visit other lakes. Our comfortable room appeared to have been recently decorated and had a small but adequate bathroom. All the staff here are excellent and we thought the food outstanding and enjoyed the dinner on the three nights that we stayed and were glad to have taken the half board offer.

From the moment we found this place we knew we had found our perfect wedding venue, and they didnt disappoint on the day....far from it! The location is beautiful, the views are honestly breath-taking and the staff are faultless. The rooms are spotlessly clean, well equipped and good value compared to other hotels of the same sort. We had countless comments on how good the food was, and we had a few fussy eaters! Phil the manager is excellent at his job, keeping everything to schedule and has a good sense of humour too! Words dont do the place justice, go and book it!!
