“Another great stay at Cragwood Hotel.”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

Just returned from yet another great weekend at Cragwood Hotel. We were there to celebrate my dad`s 80th. There was 26 of us, ages ranging from 3 to 80!! We returned there for our celebrations, having has such a fantastic time 2 years ago for my mums 80th. We wondered whether it could match the wonderful time we had had there then. Well it certainly did.
Arriving at Cragwood, we were welcomed by the wonderful Philip and speedily checked in. Our room was a lake view room with 4 poster bed. It was a family room that slept 5. Our room and bathroom had recently been refurbished. Some of the rooms have not yet been refurbished. The rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The staff are very accommodating and attentive to all your needs. We had sole use of the dining room and bar for our celebrations. The food was excellent and of outstanding quality. In the hotel grounds, you can walk down to the lake. The views are beautiful. Such an idyllic setting, especially at this time of year. Great value for money and definitely a great venue for a family gathering !! We will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view room. Also ask for one that has been recently been done up. Need a family room f...

Just got back from a wonderful six nights at Cragwood. A superb hotel in every way. The staff appeared happy and friendly at all times and this made for a happy and friendly hotel where nothing was too much trouble. The food was exceptional night after night and after dinner coffee and home made chocolates in the lounge by the roaring fire were impossible to refuse. Our room had amazing views over the lake and was immaculately prepared.
We can unreservedly recommend the hotel for any one wanting a restful break, top class food and to be looked after by excellent staff in a great location.

I was expecting good things from this hotel given the photographs on the website and the feed back etc.
We booked through Secret Escapes for 3 nights , upon arrival we were greeted by the receptionist , we asked if they had any lake view rooms , to which the reply was , "Yes we do, but you're not in one of them " followed by hysterical laughter.
The room we were shown to was overlooking the car park at the back of the hotel. The furnishings were tired and dated . We asked if there were any free rooms not over looking the car park and to his credit the receptionist did move us , however the room was again tired and dated and in fairness didn't look anything like the photos shown on the website.
The dining room also looked like something from the 70's. There is a bar and a seating area at the back of the hotel over looking the lake which would be wonderful to relax in, however there are no sign's showing where they are or which way to get there, we were directed through the kitchen...
It's such a shame as the hotel has so much potential if a little investment was made into it.
We didn't stay any of our three nights.

We have never been disappointed in our stays at The Cragwood. From the minute you step into the hotel to the moment you leave, you're every need is taken care of with consummate professionalism. To a man (or woman) all the staff ensure your stay is perfect. The quality of the food at dinner is outstanding, Michelin Star equivalent.

We may well be biased as we've been visiting the hotel for 15 years, but when you find a gem such as Cragwood, it's worth a return visit or two!

Thanks guys, see you soon

We had a wonderful couple of days at this Hotel, wish we could have stayed longer.
Everything was perfect, couldn't fault a thing, staff friendly and very helpful.
Would recommend to any one, we will certainly go back.

Room Tip: we had a ground floor garden view room as an upgrade, don't know about other rooms

Stayed for two nights on a Secret Escapes deal Nov 11-13th. First rate staff, especially front of house, lovely location and really smart rooms (we had Room 17). Room had partial lake view but really good for the price. Breakfasts excellent with lots of fresh fruit and made to order dishes. Dining areas do not match up to the excellent public lounges with roaring log fires and daily newspapers but dining staff extremely helpful and attentive.
Now, Secret Escapes are you reading this? Why on earth is there a different menu specifically for your deal? This is the first time we have ever experienced this on any type of hotel deal. The menu was limited (3 choices on each course) and only average I am afraid. Other guests had much more choice and were served more interesting dishes. Not a patch on Rothay Manor, Miller Howe etc
This left us feeling a little 'cheated' and brought the rating down a star.
The slate carvings were really interesting, though a little hard to locate, and could be made a bigger hotel feature, as they are really unique. Overall, a great location and a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Not sure what the extra price would be but a lake view room must be magnificent.

Booked this through Secret Escapes and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The room was fine overlooking the front of the hotel - I suspect the lake and garden view rooms were for guests who booked directly with the hotel.
The food was good and the lounge areas were excellent with log fires and decent seating areas.

We had dinner included on the first night and was surprised that there was a Secret Escapes menu as I presumed dinner would be the same for all guests. As I said the food was good but the choice was limited.
Staff were pleasant and professional and we enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
