Just arrived home after 4 day stay at this lovely comfortable Country House Hotel.

Wonderful setting with views of the lake and the impressive Hills and peaks. The food is first class and the staff are extremely attentive. Cosy lounges and log fires a bonus.

We will certainly be visiting again and recommending to all our friends and family.

Thank you to all who work so hard to achieve the above.

We stayed a couple of nights at the beginning of January and loved it. Wonderful staff, lots of cosy sitting rooms downstairs, generous size bedroom, dogs allowed everywhere except the dining room. The breakfasts were generous and yummy. We also opted for the 5-course dinner one night and found it very good value. Only downside was a small bathroom with water that wasn't hot enough. But otherwise we had a wonderful two night stay and will definitely be going back.

The hotel, located between Windermere and Ambleside, is right on the Lake and has a lovely walk down to the water.

We stayed here as a family ranging from four to 67 years old. Everyone was happy....rooms were just right (not modern, but comfortable in the way you would expect from a old-school country cottage), and breakfast offered what you would expect, including kippers (but sadly no smoked salmon), and dinner was ok although the menu tries a bit too hard. Grounds were great for walking around even with a four-year-old, if a bit squelchy given the rain, and the common areas with fireplace, newspapers, sofas, etc. are from another time, in a good way. Wifi was ok but a bit patchy, and TV was free-to-air only. Service was friendly and responsive to requests although the staff - none of whom were locals - would benefit from some local knowledge in their induction training. Ambleside is a few minutes drive to the left, and Windermere a few minutes to the right. We would stay again.

Back home after a superb 3 day break at Cragwood, what a perfect way to unwind after a hectic Christmas and New Year and spend some quality time together celebrating a "big number" birthday. A location and setting to die for, our room was upgraded to the most fantastic lake view room we were very happy bunnies! The staff were all attentive and friendly, food delicious, log fires crackled away all day, we didn't want to leave! Well done Phillip and team, can't wait to come back in July.

Room Tip: We were so lucky that an upgrade was available this time, but after experiencing the fabulous room a...

Brought in the New Year here and couldn't possibly fault it. The rooms were so warm and comfortable and the hotel grounds were just stunning - even in the pouring rain! The celebration they prepared was fantastic, with mounds upon mounds of delicious food. Will definitely be staying here again and can happily, highly recommend it to others!

Just finishing our latest break at cragwood, my wife and I along with our two children visited for three nights. This was our eighth or ninth stay here, since discovering this beautiful country hotel around four years ago.
As usual the room was spotless and ver comfortable, the staff extremely friendly and attentive and the food is to die for.
You might be forgiven for thinking that such a grand country house hotel, might be a little 'stuffy' and formal, but this couldn't be further from the truth, it is incredibly relaxed and child friendly.
Cragwood is becoming almost a 'home from home' for us and we are always sad to leave. We look forward to our next visit very soon. Thank you
