We made a last minute booking here. Location lovely, wonderful 4 poster room. Good value for money in the room we got overlooking the lake. I would however, not have wanted to pay £120 for a room at the back of the hotel.
We wanted dinner, but they could not serve us. Breakfast was also confused. I left with the impression that they do not have enough seats to feed a full hotel. This is clearly an organisational failure and a key revenue loss. The hotel didn't feel busy, so a early and late sitting is required.
I would recommend. But plan to eat out and ensure you choose your room.

Room Tip: Lake view or pay less than £100

We went to Cragwood for a 'Just Us' Wedding. From the moment we walked through the door we was made to feel most welcome. We was shown to our room which overlooked Lake Windermere. We then went and explored the grounds which again was absolutely wonderful. Just us package involves a 2 night stay with 4 course dinner both evenings. Both of these were superb, the quality and choice was outstanding and after dinner you get coffee and homemade chocolates in the lounge.

The Wedding: Our wedding was scheduled for 2.30, most of the morning was rain and it was looking unlikely that we would be able to have this in the gazebo but around 2.15 after meeting with the registrars the sun came out and we brought the time forward to ensure we married in the gazebo. The staff were absolutely lovely and could not do enough for us. After the wedding we had afternoon tea on the patio until the clouds came back. All in all the experience was so special and all that we dreamed of. If you are thinking of doing a 'Just Us' wedding then in a heartbeat I would say go for it. Its a fantastic experience.

Spent 3 nights at this hotel and give it a full 5 stars! The hotel itself is full of character and olde world charm however the rooms are very modern and beautifully decorated but very in keeping with the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was excellent and the views are outstanding. The gardens are wonderful to walk around early in the morning or after dinner. Hope to return in the future.

Room Tip: Wifi in some of the rooms have a weak signal.

A group of us stayed for 3 nights, to play golf at Windermere and to revisit some Lake District sites and walks. This hotel is an extended fine old house in beautiful grounds on the shores of the lake. The location is central to the main Lakeland areas. The service is friendly and excellent. The food is truly wonderful, especially the three course gourmet standard dinner. The rooms vary, some old fashioned charm and some more modern. A great stay!

Firstly the key points that make this hotel special:
1. The setting
2. Friendliness of staff
3. Homely atmosphere
4. Country house setting
5. Relaxed
6. Comfortable rooms
6. Fantastic views
This hotel is perfect for a relaxing break away, just 10 mins to Windermere and 10 mins to Ambleside, situated off the main road. Lovely gardens with spectacular views of the lake. The room was wonderful, very spacious and lovely bathroom. The breakfast was a nice selection of juices, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, croissants, toast, jam and a cooked breakfast to order if you wished. On an evening you can get a drink and sit in one of the many cosy lounges or if the weather is good sit outside on the garden terrace and admire the lovely scenery. I would definitely come back here again.

Room Tip: Room 16 is very spacious, it has a four poster bed with a large window that you can view the lake fr...

Had a one night stay at the hotel having booked two rooms directly with the hotel. Very good clean and well styled rooms with tea/coffee making facilities with a variety of teas. Biscuits and boiled sweets also provided which was a nice touch. One of the rooms had a bath with shower, the other a shower cubicle.
Very good views from the back of the hotel over Lake Windermere. The garden also had a lawn where croquet equipment was available to use.
Excellent dinner menu and the food and presentation was of a very high standard (see pictures).
Staff were all very good providing an excellent service.
Hotel rightly deserves being highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room 3 had a shower cubicle, although a very compact, and views of the lake. Room 9 had bath/shower...
