“A memorable stay with excellent service”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

Stayed at the hotel for a few nights and got married here. The hotel and the grounds are just stunning and the views from the hotel are amazing. The food was at a truly high standard and some of the best I have tasted and I measure that against some of the so called top restaurants in London.

The staff - were exceptional all round and couldn't do enough for you and made our stay there so memorable. Thankyou very much. We really cannot wait to come back.

We discovered Cragwood for a wedding venue online as home is far south, many many miles away!! After a brief visit and a few emails, we arrived the day before our wedding, greeted like we were friends by management who had met us once, 10mths earlier. Friends and family from all over the country were so complimentary about the setting as they arrived and all were pleased with room allocations and arrangements made for children etc...
ALL staff throughout our 3 day stay we're always attentive, friendly and quite frankly faultless at any time of day. The food (not bar snacks but dinners) are nothing short of AMAZING they truly have some very talented chefs whether catering for our wedding breakfast for 45 or our intimate dinner the following evening for 2.
The level of care the staff put in to ensuring our dreams came true I cannot emphasise enough, even some ill timed rain didn't unnerve them for a garden ceremony, Out came beautiful white umbrellas for our guests without hesitation!!
It's the little touches that count too, the hot chocolate for our children at breakfast (ready on the table), milk at bedtime and bowls of fruit left for guests around the hotel. Not all rooms have the spectacular lake view so make sure you ask if they are available.
I cannot wait to return to this hidden gem for any excuse I can find. It's not often you find places so utterly faultless. The fact that it doesn't shout about itself makes it all the more special. Actions speak louder than words and here, that most definitely is true!

This is a wonderful hotel. The location is easy to get to (and perfectly situated as a base to explore the Lakes) and yet, as soon as you enter the hotel and its grounds, you feel miles away from anything. The grounds are extensive, lush and varied and the views from the terrace are magnificent. Inside, the hotel itself is delightful, with several different lounges, all boasting comfy sofas and chairs, two good dining rooms and a bar with a beautiful view from the window. Our rooms were bright, comfortable, spotlessly clean and well-equipped. The staff are outstandingly warm, friendly and helpful; they do everything in their power to make you feel at home and ensure that you have everything you want/need, but in a very low-key and non-intrusive way. The food is also of a very high quality. And, to top it all, the hotel is dog-friendly (very much so, actually - the staff seemed genuinely happy to see them and to pay them attention).
We simply could not fault this hotel and, having come here to celebrate a special birthday, will be looking for further excuses to return!

We went to Cragwood to babysit for our daughter who was attending a friend's wedding. The room was comfortable, modern and lean and with a huge bed, which delivered a good night's sleep. The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful. We watched the preparation for the wedding which seemed well organised. The siting of the ceremony itself, outside, was very special and the wedding party looked to have a good time.
We got to eat at the wedding breakfast and were surprised at the high quality of the food and the rapidity of the service. I have been to many mass catering events and the ability to turn out 40 plus fillet steaks all of good quality , is to be admired.
Because the hotel was totally occupied with the function we had to eat the Friday dinner and Saturday lunch from the bar menu. Good chips, but the majority of the choices were fairly humdrum. Breakfast was really good, lovely food and lots of it. Great croissants too.
The hotel is right by the lake and has pleasant gardens.
Wifi was in hotel, but not in the room. Nice lounges, though, where wifi worked.

Room Tip: At the front, lake view.

We have had the most amazing stay, what a setting for our wedding. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The whole day was just perfect. Truly magical and I would recommend the hotel to anybody wishing for a small intimate wedding with the most spectacular views of the Lake for photographing the special day. I am most surprised that it only has 3 stars

We made a last minute booking here. Location lovely, wonderful 4 poster room. Good value for money in the room we got overlooking the lake. I would however, not have wanted to pay £120 for a room at the back of the hotel.
We wanted dinner, but they could not serve us. Breakfast was also confused. I left with the impression that they do not have enough seats to feed a full hotel. This is clearly an organisational failure and a key revenue loss. The hotel didn't feel busy, so a early and late sitting is required.
I would recommend. But plan to eat out and ensure you choose your room.

Room Tip: Lake view or pay less than £100
