“2 night Christmas holiday stay”
Reviewed 30 December 2011

Four of us arrived at 12:00 and were allowed to check in straight away. Such prompt and flexible service was reflective of our whole stay. Cheap, fake champagne I had bought for my fiance was whisked away into the fridge for later on and ice was available on request. The owners booked us taxis and breakfasts were cooked, lovely, massive and consisted of numerous options. We even got a cheaper rate as our room was slightly smaller than our friends. A lovely hotel a short walk away from the town centre (upper end) of Bowness-on-Windermere and the pubs and restaurants next to Lake Windermere. Definitely recommended and intend to stay again in future. Thanks for a wonderful break!

This was our second visit to Hawksmoor and it was just as good as the first time. We went for a different room from the last time. Room 7 was just great being on the ground floor at the rear with a balcony overlooking the stream and woods. We had phoned ahead to advise we would be arriving late which was not a problem at all. We were greated by the owner with the offer of tea at 9.30 in the evening (always a nice touch). The heating was turned up in our room and was lovely and cosy as it was minus 4 outside. Something to bear in mind is beware of the car park which was very icy and almost caught us out. The bed was comfy and the linen fresh and good quality. The breakfast was huge and freshly cooked to order with a choice of types of sausage which makes a change from the take it or leave it approach of most establishments.
The attention to detail and friendliness of Phillipa even suprised me !!!! The last time we were there it was Easter and we were left mini eggs in our room which again was a lovely touch. What amazed me though was that I mentioned this in my last review 8 months ago and this time we were left some christmas sweets and she had remembered my review and extraordinarilly who I was !!!!!
We enjoyed our stay and just love Hawksmoor House. Its in an ideal location and we will be back again I'm sure.
Thanks Phillipa and Trevor

Room Tip: Set back from the road and rooms front and back are quiet

After reading the reviews and considering a few other properties we booked the Hawksmoor, And very pleased we were too. The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. After a hearty breakfast we strolled down to Bowness (10 minutes) which was great and allowed us to relax rather than worry about parking!!

The spa facilities are also in Bowness and due to the lack of parking we had to risk double yellows, so we were a little put out by this. However the pool and sauna were very quiet and extremely opulent, we felt like we had the place to ourselves lovely!

It was a really lovely stay so we recommend it to anyone. Thanks. :O)

Absolutely lovely place. Received a warm welcome from Philippa who made us a nice Pot of Tea on arrival. Rooms were lovely, nice modern decor. Bathroom/shower was really nice aswell. Breakfast was delicious, staff were lovely, and really good value too! All in all cant say enough positive things about the place.

We stayed at this guest house for the second time in October and were not disappointed. Philippa, Trevor, Helen and Steve were so warm and welcoming. The champagne was chilled in the room as requested. The room was spotless, hot water on tap, gorgeous bathroom. The breakfasts are to die for, fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt followed by the best hot breakfast you can imagine, tea, coffee, fruit juice and toast on tap. So friendly and relaxing and the fish tank is awesome !!! We loved it so much we are going back for our 25th next June.

Room Tip: Room 12 has a balcony with a view you fall in love with

We had a great stay, our room was excellent, clean and nicely decorated. I loved the wine glasses and corkscrew, wine never tastes the same when you have to drink it from a cup or the glass from the bathroom - thanks Hawksmoor! We stayed 3 nights, it was very comfortable and the breakfasts were great. I would definately recommend and hope to stay again.

Room Tip: We saw two rooms, ours and our friends and peeped at another and all rooms are nicely decorated. I d...
