We stayed for two nights in Hawksmoor. I won't waste words, there is no need to. The location is superb, halfway between Windermere & Bowness. The car park spacious. The room we had (room 1) was spotlessly clean, the bathroom luxurious. Organic shampoos / hand gels etc were included for use. The bed & pillows were very comfortable. The welcome was lovely, Helen greeted us on Sunday with tea on the lawn with Trevor's home-made biscuits. Everything in the room worked perfectly. Nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts are second to none. I've stayed in many so-called 5 star hotels, which could take lessons from this place. When we returned from our walk the next day, even though I'd made the bed myself, the whole room was tidy and the bed made up again like we had just arrived. Everything that had been used had been replenished. The difference is in the attention to detail. You cannot fault this place at all.

Room Tip: There are pictures of all the rooms on the website - they all look great.

I would not consider staying anywhere else on our annual visits to the Lakes. It is wonderful to be greeted like friends on return visits. Trevor, Philippa and Helen make our stays with them so comfortable. They deserve a 5* rating for absolutely everything - cleanliness, comfort, food, welcome. On arrival, tea/coffee and Trevor's homemade biscuits are offered whilst Trevor takes your luggage to the room. Also, every effort is made to cater for everyone's dietary needs at breakfast time. No effort is too great or small for these wonderful hosts. Thanks again and see you next year.

Honestly there is no need to look further than Hawksmoor. It is daunting looking at all the possibilities and Trip Advisor helped us to select this B&B twelve months ago. We have now visited the Lakes District three times from a distant New Zealand and we wanted for this place to be special. It is superb. Our room (11) is very roomy and it has the luxury of a modern and comfortable couch in front of a large flat screen TV. The bathroom is beautiful. The reality exceeds the photo's and this is often not the case. Trevor and Phillipa are wonderful and genuine hosts....they care about you having a lovely experience at their place and the Lakes District in general. The breakfasts too must be given a mention because they are lovely ....the daily specials have been fabulous. Make no mistake this is an easy decision to make ....quality B&B well positioned and has wonderful caring hosts. We can thoroughly recommend Room 11!

Room Tip: Room 11.....you won't want for anything more.

Situated in walking distance between Windermere and Bowness on Windermere, Hawksmoor makes an excellent base from which to explore the amazing Lake district area. We stayed in a lovely room (No12) with a tiny balcony overlooking the forest. Being city people, we were thrilled to wake up to the sound of singing birds and water flowing in the stream. The room was brand new and nicely decorated and the bathroom airy and spotlessly clean. Breakfast - plentiful and freshly cooked- is served in a room downstairs .There is just one lovely table by the window so if you want to sit there you have to get up very early to arrive first - unfortunately we didn't make it.
A special mention to their internet site: it is excellent with many photos of the different rooms and correct information about everything.

Visited Hawksmoor Guest House for two nights on 22nd and 23rd June with a friend. We very both very impressed with the service and attention to detail here and we are fussy with high expectations! We had booked a room each - double for single occupancy - and both rooms were exceptionally clean and modern. Facilities in the room were great too with ipod docs, under-floor heating in the bathrooms (not that we needed it in June) and extremely comfy beds. My room had a shower room only but the shower was the best I had used for a long time and just so powerful.

We discovered a great bonus too in that guests can use a local swimming pool and gym free of charge. Discounts are also available at the

Breakfast the next morning was reallyn really good! The usual cereal, yogurts, pastries etc were left out for everyone to help themselves. The main event ie the cooked element was very high quality and all cooked to order. A special cooked breakfast dish is offered every day too.

Thanks to Phillipa, Trevor and the team (esp Helen) for looking after us so well. Any complaints? Only that two nights just was not enough in this wonderful part of the country. We're already planning another visit in early 2014 if not before.

Best guesthouse we have stayed in yet. On arrival we received a very friendly welcome with tea and biscuits offered. Room was clean and spacious with a comfortable king size bed. Decoration up to date and very nice. Full fellwalkers breakfast set us up for the day and each day there was also a speciality breakfast which was very substantial too. The girls serving were very friendly and efficient and asked if we wanted more tea, coffee and toast. This is a very good base to explore the area and we will definitely return.

We came to the lakes to do the Great North Swim with our two small children and my parents. This is the third time that we have stayed here. Once again, it was fantastic. The rooms are beautiful and the service from Phillipa and Helen so friendly and helpful. When I phoned up to book the room a few months ago, Phillipa even remembered who I was straight away and my name which was pretty impressive! We stayed in the family room which was great. It it essentially two rooms with a thick curtain in the middle which worked really well as we were all in the same room but allowed us to have our own space and keep the lights on after the children had gone to bed. The bathroom was also great and the shower fantastic. We would always come back to this hotel. My children also loved the fish tank in the breakfast room.
