“Wonderful farmhouse cottage”
Reviewed 29 December 2013 for a stay in December 2013
person found this review helpful

My family and I have just stayed at Hagg End Cottage from December 23rd to the 28th 2013. This cottage is now a holiday let and is absolutely great for families. It is about 450 years old with beautiful oak panelling and antique furniture. It has five bedrooms and four bathrooms/shower rooms. We are a family of ten including 5 adults and 5 children plus a good dog. We were met by Mrs Helen Price who was extremely helpful and friendly and really jolly, there was a huge Christmas tree twinkling in the windows and on a rainy, windy and cold evening it was very welcome. The sitting room is large with comfy sofas and a lovely wood-burning stove with loads of atmosphere. The kitchen is huge and well equipped (we cooked a huge Christmas dinner there) and sitting round the large table on Christmas Day with fairy lights on the tree and our candles it was lovely. There is a large area for walking boots, jackets, etc which is very very useful especially if the weather is bad. You can walk from the cottage into Bowness which is not too far and there are lovely walks also from the cottage all around. One of the walks was particularly good for my family and ended up in a small village called Ings where there was a cosy, walker/dog friendly pub. The food was good too and a great variety of different ales. We had a wonderful Christmas break, despite the weather being rather wet and windy at times, but we still walked out and came into the warm kitchen with rosy cheeks and a good appetite! We shall most certainly go there again as it was so comfortable and we never felt worried about the children (the youngest two being twins of nearly 3) as there was so much room for them to play with their new toys. Lovely!.
