The menu is straightforward with a wide variety to suit all tastes. The staff are very professional, yet friendly and helpful. an excellent wine list.

This is a review just for the food, as we didn't book to stay overnight. We booked for a lunch at the Lakeside, expecting to spoil ourselves with something special. Firstly we were shown into the conservatory because the restaurant isn't open at lunchtimes (something we hadn't been told when booking). At first we were shown to a table for four with a view of the car park, and when we pointed out that we were the only guests in the room they moved us to a more pleasant table, although not in as good a position as the 2-person tables. The waitress was very understanding and pleasant about it.

We ordered our drinks which were about £4.00 each for a soft drink, and looked at the menu. It was no better than a very ordinary pub menu, although that's not true because as this is the Lake District where pubs use great produce and tend to have quite imaginative menus it was worse than a pub menu. Fish and chips or a burger in a bun or club sandwich for £16.95, it was ridiculous! Needless to say we left without eating (although almost £16 lighter for the 4 drinks!) and had a delicious and imaginative meal in a lovely atmosphere at the nearby Swan Hotel, which was so busy it had only one empty table when we got there.

Really over priced for what you got, yet it was too formal for basically bar food. You don't usually get waiters serving food wearing white gloves in a reatauranr selling fish & chips and steak & chips!
