Description: If the Lakes are the jewel in the crown of Britain’s countryside then Miller Howe must be the Queen. Why? Because this restaurant is wearing that jewel well. With the most stunning views possible over the beautifully English Lake Windermere, you probably wouldn’t notice if you were sat on a polyester sofa and served up a Kwiksave ready meal. However, take your eyes off the windows for just a moment and you’ll notice that the surroundings are comfortable, good looking and with somehow more than a little taste of Italy. Although A La Carte options are available, most diners will delight in the Set Menu which boasts the very finest dishes using quality British ingredients.

This was out fourth visit to the Miller Howe and it has a fabulous view over Windermere. We stopped for tea and cakes/biscuits and had very relaxing hour in the sunshine.

So disappointed, went for a special birthday treat on a beautiful summer day, we were not greeted with ONE smile from any of the 3 miserable staff that served us. We had 3 pimms and lemonade (very small glasses) and were appalled by the £36 bill we received. The food was delicious but they advertise 3courses for £27, we only had 2 and were charged £23 although when adding up from the menu price that was over £3 more than ordering separately. Lovely views and food hence the average rating but the cost and disinterested staff spoilt our special lunch.

Taken out for a birthday treat. The last time we came here was as waifs and strays caught in a snow storm and stuck on the road. How fortuitous we were just outside this place and were welcomed with warmth and comfort. Then, we missed the opportunity of a fantastic cooked breakfast - there was a mega power cut. This time we visited on a balmy summer evening and sampled perfectly cooked and presented meals with attentive yet unobtrusive service. We each opted for the same menu - imaginatively presented and an innovative style. Tender rolled breast of lamb with pickled cockles and samphire on a cauliflower purée. Sounds risky but was absolutely delicious and cooked and seasoned to perfection. Everything else we ate was just as delightful. No - you don't want a complete run-down. Suffice it to say that the new (about 2 months in) chef deserves to enhance this place's reputation - and his own.

Simply stunning food and superb value/service/backdrop of the lake and beyond.
How they offer this quality for the price is beyond me, as know many restaurants in the area, being local. Try it.
