“Fantastic staff, dated rooms”
Reviewed 17 November 2013 via mobile

Stayed here with my partner and nearly 2year old daughter 16th Nov for 1night.
They have the friendliest most helpful and polite staff I have ever come across. Just wonderful!
Quick check in. Our room was on ground level, which was fine for us as didn't need to mess around with the stairs with bags and a small child.
The room was a bit dated and rusty. The bed was hard and the pillows were even harder.
Breakfast was lovely and of course served with a smile.
Would I stay here again? Yes I think so but I'd want to pay less than we did unless they had a refurb.

I left a review on LateRooms as we had booked through them but feel it worthy of mention on Tripadvisor...
We had intended staying elsewhere on our visit at the end of September 2013 but as there was guarenteed off road parking this was what clinched it. First impression OK on Google and on arrival. Staff (Julie) friendly and helpful at reception. Warning sign should have been the guest attempting to slide down the bannisters as we arrived. On going to the room (Room 46) I was reminded of Alice in Wonderland.... the corridors kept getting narrower and smaller. Our disappointment when we entered... small room, toilet and shower the size of a shoebox, no headboard on the bed which had a matress harder than the floor. No wardrobe, just a metal coatrail fixed to the wall. Toilet floor sticky, sink not very clean. We were only there for a night so stayed out most of the time. Pool room/lounge had very musty smell. Had a drink in the bar before going up to sleep and watched the TV there for a while. Bar almost empty and hte dance floor doubled up as a charging bay for 3 or 4 electric mobility scooters. Half way through the programme the staff decided they wanted to watch something else so changed it over... to a blank screen as the person didn't know how to work it. After a short arguement someone else changed it to some MTV type channel. We went to our room. Bedsheets did appear clean but I preferred to sleep on top of the bed in my clothes. 4am onwards the doors began clattering outside and adjacent to us as a group of drunk men got back to their rooms. Constant noise from next room thereafter with loud talking. Didn't bother with breakfast, just left. Did we complain? No, what was the point, what could they do about the room and noisy guests. Prior to going we read trip adviser. Some good reviews and some not so good - just thought that some people are fussy but found they were absolubtly right and good reviews must be by those easily pleased. Car park cramped and crowded.
Accomodation is suitable perhaps for stag parties and boys weekends. Avoid avoid avoid.

Room Tip: Best room would be one at a different hotel.

We have just returned from an overnight stay at this hotel and have enjoyed our time there. The strength of the hotel has got to be it's staff ,who are more than happy to help, and the warm welcome that Julie ,the receptionist offers when you arrive, and throughout your time there. Generally the hotel is good ,but it did need a little bit of attention and TLC in places .The same with the rooms ,some are really nice and others are in need of decorating ,but the hotel are in the process of addressing this .It is a clean hotel ,with lovely crisp bedding ,on very comfortable beds.
It has a large bar area where guests are made to feel welcome to relax and have a drink at reasonable prices. We had breakfast there and were able to have cereals ,toast and a good full English which was really nice. It is about a 5 minute walk away from The Tower which is good ,and also free off street parking for residents which was very useful. The hotel also offers half price tickets to local attractions ,so make sure you ask Julie about these ,her knowledge of every thing local is impressive. I would definitely book this hotel again.

Recently returned from a 2 night's stay. We received a great northern welcome which continued throughout our time there, nothing was too much trouble for the staff especially Julie who is very knowledgable about the local area and things to do. The hotel is basic but clean tidy and the breakfast is great. I have stayed in five star hotels and in my opinion the warmth and atmosphere here rivals them.
I'll definitely go again, thanks to all the staff .

Booked 2 nights with a group of ladies. The staff are second to none. All very friendly especially the Manageress Julie. The Full English Breakfast was superb with plenty of tea and toast on offer. The bar is well stocked and caters for all.Can highly recommend the 4 pint Cocktail pitchers. The location of the hotel is spot on for all the attractions/trams/promenade and shops. There is a lift to all floors which is a bonus as you wont one that in a lot of places these days. Will be back again next year.My only regret is that I didn't stay longer!! :)
