“BEST HOTEL IN BLACKPOOL, BUT!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2013

Just returned from The Village Hotel, Blackpool.
2 adults 1 child stayed 12th - 14th April.
This is the best all round hotel in Blackpool.
We have stayed at The Village many time's over the year's and to be honest the only thing that has changed other than the colour of the paint is the cost.
We paid £100 per night BB then upgraded for £20 per night for a bigger room.
This is way cheaper than usual so we booked as soon as we saw the deal.
The room was huge and very comfortable but the problem was the size of the bathroom, it was tiny.
How on earth can they put such a small bathroom in such a large bedroom area?
Someone has boobed here!
What a stupid design idea.
The bedroom was excellent though.
The last review i left for The Village i complained about the food.
Not this time, the food in the 19th was outstanding, the staff were very friendly and £40 for a family of 3 with drinks was spot on.
Someone has had a large kick up the backside because other than the last time we ate here we have never had a bad meal so after the first night we decided to eat here again.
My past experiences of eating in the Italian restaurant put me off for life and i hear nothing has changed.
The food here is not up to scratch so my advice is to avoid the Italian and eat in the sports bar.
All in all this is THE best hotel Blackpool has to offer.

Room Tip: You get what you pay for so upgrade!

On my arrival I was met by a very pleasant receptionist by the name of Ruby. She was so helpful booking me in, taking care of my baggage, booking me taxis and in addition arranging with Tania to allow me to enter the restauraunt early as I had an appointment to attend. I have never met more helpful and pleasent receptionists in a hotel before. They made my stay very enjoyable.

After booking hotel for a two night stay with my sister and niece (8 years) I was very apprehensive after reading reviews. Need not have worried. The hotel hotel staff, setting and facilities are super and all areas of the hotel are spotless. My niece had a wonderful time in the indoor and outdoor pools - despite the April weather, the outdoor pool was lovely. Although we didn't use the gym facilities I was most impressed with how well it was equipped. The main area for concern was the quality of the food at the hotel. The breakfast was good but I do agree with another review re the pots of coffee and tea which are pre-made so were lukewarm, however the staff were very willing to make a fresh pot when we asked for some hot water. All staff in the hotel are very helpful and have a friendly approach. The evening meals were fair to good. I would recommend the pub for eating rather than the restaurant.

Let me start this review by answering the question ‘would I stay there again?’ The answer is ‘yes’ and that is all many of the readers of this review will what to know. For those who may want to know more about the hotel, read on.

Herons’ Reach is much more than a hotel. On site is an 18 hole golf course with a PGA Academy, Fitness Centre full of modern equipment, Spa, 3 squash courts, tennis courts, large indoor pool and equally large heated outdoor pool. Despite the recent very cold weather the outdoor pool was popular from dawn till well after dark. The hotel has a large number of local residents as members of the Leisure Club, but there was always adequate room for guests to use the facilities.

The hotel has recently been refurbished and the rooms (standard double for us) are spacious, clean and all that you would expect from a reasonably priced hotel. We booked a Getaway Break which was £75 DBB for two people per night.

The hotel is set about 1 mile back from the sea front, just behind Stanley Park and next to Blackpool Zoo. On the drive from the main road to the hotel you can see the giraffe in their enclosure. On entering the hotel, Reception is in front of you, the hotel’s main restaurant (an Italian restaurant) to your left and a Starbucks café (typical of a motorway coffee shop) to your right. At the back of the hotel facing the golf course is the Victory Pub, which is typical of a Brewer’s Fayre and pubs like that.

Dinner in the DDB package is offered in the Italian Restaurant (Buca di Beppo) and taken from their 3 course set menu. This gives a choice of 4 starters, 5 mains (including any pizza) and 4 sweets. Portions are generous but be warned that the chicken and salmon options of the main course do not come with sides of any description (except a tomato sauce) and these needsto be bought at £2.95 each. If you don’t like the set menu choices then you can order from the main menu and have an allowance of £14.50. This allowance can also be used for food in the Victory Pub.

We found the staff in the restaurant to be friendly and helpful. We would advise that a place is booked in the restaurant even if you think that you won’t need to. On our second night we didn’t book seeing how many tables were free on the first night, only to be told on our arrival at 6pm that we would have to wait 10 minutes or so for a table. When I tactfully pointed out that the restaurant was virtually empty we were told that others had booked and we needed to be fitted in. We were given a table after 10 minutes but throughout our meal which lasted 2 hours, we counted 15 tables of 4 (we were a party of 4) completely empty! I don’t think the lady in charge was being unhelpful, I suspect that she was not up to the job.

Breakfast (typical of a Premier Inn breakfast, but not quite as good) is also taken in the Italian restaurant. On entry you are offered tea or coffee and given pots (already made) which have been stood possibly for some time. If you are lucky the drink will be hot, if not they will be luke warm.

As one of our party said, you get what you pay for and at the price we paid we had value for money and for this reason, we will return.

Myself and 7 friends stayed at Village Herons Reach over the weekend of 5th & 6th April. From the moment we checked in to the time we left, the staff could not do enough for us. We had a lovely dinner in Buca Di Beppo on Friday night, breakfast was good and plenty of it. My only slight criticism would be that pots of tea and coffee are pre-prepared waiting on a side table when you arrive at the restaurant rather than being freshly made for you as you sit down leading to stewed tea and also staff do not replenish the food that has run out as quickly as they could. Apart from this small gripe I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and am already looking to book a weekend break there again!

This is our fourth stay here. I have stayed here as part of a golf weekend twice before and my wife has stayed here with familyfor an Easter break. We (two couples) stayed again at Herons Reach last weekend. We were in a Upper Deck room with views over the 18th green (room 418). The room is a good size and the decor and appliances (TV and docking station) are all excellent. I appreciate that whilst there is nothing that can be done, the bathrooms whilst clean and adequate are quite small.

The chaps played golf and the ladies used the spa facilities. Golf course in good shape and the ladies spoke well of thespa facilities and treatments.

We ate in the Italian restaurant on the Sunday evening which was set up for a carvery only. The amount of and the quality of the food was actually very good. Where the hotel excels is with the staff and service. We were served by a particularly attentive and personable young lady called Stevie. Hopefully the hotel management might read this and give her a well done.

The excellent service continues throughout the hotel from the guys in the golf shop, the domestic teams and to not forget the lovely young lady who checked us out at the reception.

We would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a relaxing break, in a nice sourrounding with excellent staff.

Room Tip: Upper deck on the fouth floor has a good view of the 18th green and fairway.
