“Friendly and Comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2013

This is a very well situated hotel that is clearly a labour of love for the friendly owners.

I stayed in a single room that was still spacious and had a comfortable bed. There was an en suite bathroom that, along with the toilet, was shower only but that is perfectly acceptable to me. Tea and coffee were provided in the room.

Breakfast started at a sociable hour, and is cooked to order. I was offered a full English breakfast but opted to choose individual items instead. This was no problem at all and was cooked very nicely. There was also cereal and toast available along with an endless supply of coffee, very much needed after a late night.

The hotel is in an excellent location, and has free parking either on the street or in a car park opposite the hotel. Public transport is also easily accessible with a tram stop just around the corner on the seafront. There are a number of restaurants, fast food places and cafés nearby and the hotel itself has a licensed bar.

My only complaint is that my stay was so short. It was a pleasure to stay in this hotel and I hope to get the opportunity for a repeat stay very soon.

We had a warm and not overbearing (intrusive owners don't sit well with me) welcome at this traditional Blackpool B&B, we were given a double en-suite room on the top floor with a lovely view over Gynn Square.

It certainly doesn't warrant the "Terrible" review it's received which is totally OTT (have standards but "Terrible", come on), however I will have to go against the majority and give it a Very Good, unfortunately it doesn't meet my expectations for an "Excellent" establishment.

The decor could do with updating in quite a few areas, there was no welcome pack so we had no idea about things like fire escapes, check out times or what time breakfast was served, the single glazed sash window was noisy during windy weather and while our room had a remote to turn on the TV the remote to turn on the Freeview box was missing rendering TV watching impossible, we weren't in the room long so didn't bother mentioning it to the owners.

That said it's clean, the breakfast was great, the owners were friendly and we slept well in a comfy bed, we'd definitely return.

Booked very last minute we were not expecting much for the little guest house on Gynn Square.
How very wrong.
Warmly welcomed by Jan the proprietor and instructed in the running of the hotel eg Fridge with cold milk available rather than the usually little pots of milk in the room.
Small rooms but with small but functional en suites. Nicely decorated and very clean. Well stocked with soap and shower gel not nailed to the wall, tissues and lovely toilet paper not the usual cheap offerings in hotels these days!
Food more than expected; home cooked and excellent quality, quantity and taste.

Could have done with a bath mat in my en suite but sure if I’d asked something would have been found! Nothing too much trouble.

Just round the corner from the Savoy which we visited for a drink…..and what a horror that was!! If you find yourself in the Savoy move out and go just round the corner for a much better option.

Stayed here for 1 night with my wife and 3 children. Rick and Jan did everything they could to make us feel welcome. The room was lovely along with all the little extras, Fridge on landing with fresh milk and chocolate and cans of pop. Excellent location away from the hustle and bustle but not too far away. Bar was resalable priced and breakfast was lovely. Will definitely be coming back.

I have returned today from 3 nights at the South Lea, the hotel is very clean and homely Jan and Rick are very friendly Jan is a very good cook enjoyed all my meals, Little extras like biscuits on your drinks tray in your room and fresh milk in fridge on landing and snacks with a honesty box all make a difference. The hotel is in a very nice part of Blackpool in Gynn Square away from all the hustle but 2 mins away from tram and bus stops to take into centre of Blackpool Jan and Rick are very accommodating and go out of their way to make you feel at home and help you Jan gave me a lift to the train station to get my train home for which I am very grateful. I will be going to Blackpool again next year and will be booking the South Lea

We stayed just 1 night and we had a lovely stay. our 4yr old daughter felt very comfortable and very much like home that she asked why we couldn't live there. we didn't meet the landlord on our 1 night stay but Jan the landlady was really nice and welcoming we had a fab full english breakfat in the morning. We enjoyed it so much that we have already booked for next year's fireworks competition. We would recommend this hotel every time.
Thanks for a lovely stay

We've stayed at the South Lea in September, and we were really impressed. It has an excellent location, stone throw away of the promenade, overlooking this large square, and next door to a tram stop. The owners were amazing, really fun people to be with. Jan's breakfast was really tasty, and Rick's bar is a nice and cozy little place. Jan also helped us out a lot by assisting in deciding what attractions would be worth to visit. Can't fault it at all.
