“no problem going back”
Reviewed 15 June 2011

dont believe all you read in the reviews, some people want 5 star comfort for budget prices. we booked superior room with sea view, lovely big room with jacuzzi bath for two nights only £140 DBB. Dinner was 3 course with good choice. hotel public areas and toilets very clean, and receptionists very polite.

Room Tip: worth booking superior room

Wow, what a shocker of a hotel! Firstly the deal we booked included a sea view. We spoke to the recepionist at 11.00am & mentioned this, she said no problem and would sort it when we checked in at 3.00pm. We checked in on the dot at 3.00 and our family of 4 excitedly made their way to the promised sea view. Sadly we were confronted with a room from Prisoner Cell Block H with frosted half sash windows, scraggy net curtains and a view of the back of next doors hotel. I visited reception and asked if we could have the promised sea view, to which a rather hostile member of staff told me no chance as my deal was only on the availabilty of sea views, even though her colleague had promised one only 4 hours earlier.

The room was seriously grim and i'm amazed people are being so positive about this place. The bathroom taps were totally shot and falling to pieces and there was a minging mouldy seal around the bath. The toilet had come out of the arc and rawplugs hanged helplessly from the 70's tiled wall, where a towel rail once lived.

The bedroom carpet was caked in stains, which included nail varnish, coffee and several others... goodness only knows what had caused these.

We did have a couple of chairs, although it would be a brave person who chose to sit on stained and shabby items.

What about the TV, what a classic! 20 year old portable, which you could only get BBC 1 on... there was a remote, although this had given up long since and just flickered faint signs of life...

The day we arrived was tremendously hot (25 centigrade) and the hotel was exceptionally warm... although quite bizzarely the heating was turned on within the stairs of the hotel and on every floor... who knows why..

We duely went for our 3 course meal at 6.15 and understandably the dining room was like a sauna. Within 60 seconds a rather irrate member of staff (long black hair in a pony tail... come on you know who are.. don't be shy) was grilling us about our choice of food. Yes i know it was hot, but she was not a happy bunny, and sadly whenever she bumped into another member she loudly cursed the guests and claimed that she was ready to explode. Not really what you expect.

Must be honest we manged a crafty move and ditcehd the unhappy bunny and grabbed another member of staff who was superb and could teach the unhappy bunny how it should be done. Sorry unhappy bunny, but the guests have paid for your services and you really should be a little bit more respectful.

Food was grim, long hair in the pudding, brown and curled up celary with the cheese and biscuits and i had to pay an extra £1 for the privelage. Nearly forgot the pate starter, which was sat in a batch of 30 ready made up plates in the heat of the dining room, god knows how long it had been sat there.

The highlight of the night we spent at the hotel was the guy on the organ and the free bar of course. He was very good and manged to get a really good atmosphere going in the evening... another one who could give unhappy bunny a bit of coaching!

Talking of Unhappy Bunny... She made a guest apperance at breakfast, as she fumed like a rabid dog because the hot plates needed replacing and she hade been tasked with the work. Guests dived for cover as she ploughed through the door into the kitchen like a deranged Basil Fawlty, muttering more nasties as she passed by.

Sadly The Savoy is a shocker of a place and whilst some people are happy with it, i feel the majority are not and would therefore strongly advise people to try other hotels in Blackpool.

The only way for The Savoy to move forward would be massive finnacial investment from the owners of the group and a total renovation of a very dated and tired hotel!

Room Tip: Getting confirmation in writing is a must...

We arrived home today having spent 4 lovely days in Blackpool. We booked this hotel before reading any previous reviews so were slightly worried about what to expect. At the end of the day so long as our room was clean and tidy,we decided that was all that mattered as we would only be using it for the nights.
We were more than happy with our room (101)which was above the main reception and had a wonderful view of the irish sea.We had booked half board and the food was very good and all staff were very friendly and helpful....nothing was too much trouble even though at times they were very busy.
Ok so the hotel is an old building and could do with some minor improvements but in general it is always clean and tidy. The housekeeping staff do a great job keeping a large hotel with approx 140 rooms clean and even make the bed each day.
The bar stays open in the main lounge 24 hours should require a late night drink and the staff in the bars are great especially Anne who went out of her way to assist us and often left later than she should.....so thanks Anne...we look forward to seeing you again, hopefully in August.
Mal the enertainment guy is fab with a terrific sense of humour and will ensure that all the guests know one another by the end of a good night in the downstairs bar...thanks Mal...you're a great guy who gives so much of your time!
The girls and guys on reception are always pleasant and helpful...sorry too many names to remember but you all do a great job!Not forgetting all the people who do a great job in the restaurant and to all those i have not listed i would just like to say a great big thankyou.
We originally booked 3 days(2 nights) but stayed an extra day and night as we were having a great time.
So to sum it up we basically had a great few days away with great staff and enjoyed great company from the many people we met in a short time.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EVERYONE! Hope to see you all again in August.

Just returned home from a two night stay at the Savoy Hotel, Blackpool. We booked through travelzoo.com and got the two nights, with dinner, bed and breakfast and one hour free bar per night at the bargain price of £116 in total. We can't complain at all about the hotel. Yes, some areas are in need of refurbishment, but we really can't grumble at the price. ALL the staff were friendly, the food was great and the room was clean and comfortable (room 144 with a sea view). I really don't get some of the negative reviews on here. I don't know what people expect for the prices paid. The staff here do a great job and the Savoy really doesn't deserve the bad reviews. If you're looking for a comfortable room with friendly staff and good food, look not further than here. Would definitely stay here again.
