Seriously do they expect people to pay to stay in this filthy hovel!!! Shocking dirty and filthy. We paid £40.00 for bed and breakfast, yes cheap but OMG when we got there the reception staff were really friendly but we noticed everywhere was shabby and run down. We checked in as it was only for 1 night but soon checked out. There was poo wiped on the bathroom floor and the shower was filthy!

The Savoy is a venue for a Company called "Select Events" It is run by a lovely group of people led by a couple named Pricilla and Alan Jones. Nothing is too much trouble as they make sure everything is perfect for their group within the hotel .We meet up twice a year now and have good fun with excellent artistes and games. The food this time,20/ 22June was very good, Evening meal not as generous as previously but good quality. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a constant filling up of cooked items and fruit , cereals etc.Sadly nothing can be done about the one lift as it is a listed building, this is a big problem when leaving owing to congestion with luggage etc.We were lucky getting a corner front room and though work does need doing it doesn't detract from your comfort .

Room Tip: Rooms at the front and sides are best of course. Rooms at the back and middle are hot and dark

Dear Guest, many thanks for taking the time to post a review.

Your comments are very much appreciated and have been passed on to the Staff. Its good to get a balanced view on these matters. Sometimes one has to experience the Hotel for them selves rather than rely on dubious inaccurate reports.

I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your weekend with Select events, we thoroughly enjoy Working with Alan and his team and look forward to welcoming them back in the very near future!

The savoy has seen better days, the deal we had was £42 for 2 for dbb which for the food aspect was good but the room was awful. Looked out onto a brick wall round the back. No ashtray even though it was a smoking room, ended up being given a sugar bowl, nice. Evening meal lovely but breakfast was a bit off. Sausage tasted off and bacon was that thin it had all stuck together, apart from that ok. One chair in the room great for one and no hot water at all. Could not have a wash or shower as water freezing cold at 8.30am. Not impressed.

Room Tip: Sea view best

Booked for 2 nights with some friends. On checking in the reception staff were offhand and rude, we wanted a coffee but there were no staff available, eventually we got our coffee after a wait. The whole place is tired and in desperate need of repa]r and renovation. Not enough staff, breakfast was very hit and miss, not skimmed milk shortage of butter and marmalade and no one seemed to notice that this and the fruit needed replenishing. As for the rooms!!!! The curtains were ragged and the linoleum on the bathroom floor was torn.there were damp patches where wet must have got in. On the plus side the water was very hot and the bed comfortable, but hairs in the bath were NOT acceptable. Keycards had to be reprogrammed very time we used them!!! Not to be recommended at all.

I stayed at this hotel last week and was about worried by the poor reviews, but I shouldn't have worried. It does need a bit of work doing but on the whole it's a lovely building. The blankets are amazing, so if you love your blanket you'll like it here. It's like Buckingham palace compared to Mansfield. For the more adventurous some rooms even have love swings. They do operate a strict "no poles" rule though.

I was pleased to read that you liked the blankets, unfortunately, the strict 'no pole rule' still applies despite my best efforts.

We look forward to welcoming you back.

Stayed here for one night - 2 families in 5/6 bed family rooms! So, 2 lots of 2 adults & 3 kids for £60 per family! That includes breakfast!!!! Ok it's a bit tired and some areas need a good clean but hey, we were there for a break away with the kids! A lovely lady entertained us in the eve and included all the kids which was great. We loved the history of the hotel and you could see it would have been a very grand place in its day! If you're looking for a posh hotel now, it's not so go elsewhere. But for us it was great! The rooms were adequate sized for a family with enough beds, towels and refreshments! Breakfast was brill with a large selection for everyone. My one and only complaint was the pigeon outside our room which squawked all night (I'm 7 months preg and need my sleep, I didn't get any) I wish I could have shot it by 4am! Anyway cheap and cheerful! And for all you lot moaning about the lift, all 10 of us fit in it! :-)
