“Credit to Bispham”

My husband and I visited the Highlands for our tea last night. We used to go a lot before it changed ownership. We had a lovely meal under the new owners just before they closed for refurbishment last summer and I was really looking forward to going again. The new décor is lovely. The barman was very friendly and explained there would be a wait for a table as even though tables were currently empty they were reserved. We purchased a bottle of red wine which was excellent value and enjoyed the ambience waiting for our table. After around twenty minutes we were shown to a table. The choice of food was brilliant and good value. However it took over half an hour for the waiting on staff to take our order. My first choice wasn't available and it was only 1930 hrs but it didn't matter so much as there was a lovely choice still available. The food took a while to be served but was worth the wait. The quality and the portion size was fantastic value for money and delicious food. However, we wanted a coffee and pudding to finish off our lovely meal but the waiting on staff came nowhere near to our table. There had only been one barman on duty and the waitress was helping out behind the bar but the second waiter appeared to be standing around at the end of the bar. Eventually we had to get his attention for him to take our plates, then he didn't even offer the dessert menu or coffee and to be honest we felt that he really wasn't bothered. We were going to ask for the dessert menu but felt we would be bothering the waiter and we would have another wait to order it and for it to be served. The service really let the experience down, however the food and the ambience and décor is great and we will be back again and hopefully the service last night was simply 'one of those nights ' and a one off.

“Decent beer, poor food and service.”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

The pub has been recently renovated and it is quite pleasant in there and the beer is pretty good quality.

Unfortunately the food and service was not great at all. The waitress would not serve 1 of our party just a portion of chips, and on a separate occasion they would not serve a starter as a main.

The food is apparently home-made but the fish I was served was clearly out of a pack. The chips were quite nice and could well have been home-made.

While we were able to sit straight away other people were waiting at the bar to be sat, even though there were tables that had been empty and reserved for over an hour.

“Bisphamdiners”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

Since this pub has been refurbished we have made this our favourite venue for Sunday lunch.
The menu is varied with specials available at superb prices. The chef cooks each order from fresh and it is presented in a lovely manner and served by attentive staff.
My wife and I reserve a table every Sunday in order not to be disappointed. The pub also do an early bird special menu on weekdays from 5pm to 7pm. and the cost is £10 for two.

“FANTASTIC FOOD”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

We are regulars in the Highlands and since Steve and Sue took over the food they provide is a brilliant experience, we ate there on Friday and the food is presented beautifully by Steve, it is mouth watering and is cooked with a passion. The menu is fantastic value and gives a great choice, you have to remember the food is cooked fresh and there may be a small wait but it is well worth the wait, it is by far the best food in any Blackpool pub and trust me we have tried them all, the Highlands is by far a memorable experience, there is nothing on the menu I can say that is not worth trying, my fav is the liver and onions WOW, it was so good we ate there on Sat as well, try for yourself you will return.
