My husband and I visited the Highlands for our tea last night. We used to go a lot before it changed ownership. We had a lovely meal under the new owners just before they closed for refurbishment last summer and I was really looking forward to going again. The new décor is lovely. The barman was very friendly and explained there would be a wait for a table as even though tables were currently empty they were reserved. We purchased a bottle of red wine which was excellent value and enjoyed the ambience waiting for our table. After around twenty minutes we were shown to a table. The choice of food was brilliant and good value. However it took over half an hour for the waiting on staff to take our order. My first choice wasn't available and it was only 1930 hrs but it didn't matter so much as there was a lovely choice still available. The food took a while to be served but was worth the wait. The quality and the portion size was fantastic value for money and delicious food. However, we wanted a coffee and pudding to finish off our lovely meal but the waiting on staff came nowhere near to our table. There had only been one barman on duty and the waitress was helping out behind the bar but the second waiter appeared to be standing around at the end of the bar. Eventually we had to get his attention for him to take our plates, then he didn't even offer the dessert menu or coffee and to be honest we felt that he really wasn't bothered. We were going to ask for the dessert menu but felt we would be bothering the waiter and we would have another wait to order it and for it to be served. The service really let the experience down, however the food and the ambience and décor is great and we will be back again and hopefully the service last night was simply 'one of those nights ' and a one off.
