“Food was poor and it was quite smelly!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

A group of us went to this pub for a bite to eat on a Saturday late afternoon. The pub wasn't busy so we got a table easily for our group of 12.
When you walked in to the pub there was a strange smell, not too sure what it was but as some of our group had already settled down we decided to stay.
The food was pretty poor with the chips tasting like they had been cooked in dirty fat.
Staff were friendly and service was fast.

“Can be great but can be dodgy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

This pub is a beautiful building in the lively talbot square area of Blackpool.

It is a lovely big old building with very high ceilings and decorated to emphasise this. On two stories although the upstairs bar is rarely opened these days, this can be an enjoyable pub.

But ultimately this pub is set up purely for the stag and hen culture and all the ensuing binge drinkers that come to our town. This sometimes makes buying a beer on a Saturday a hit or miss affair with the staff serving whoever shouts loudest first regardless of who is first in the queue. It doesn't seem to matter if you are polite or patient, the drunken rabble normally get their drinks first.

Food is nice an reasonable although if good orders build up the kitchen just can't cope do waiting an hour or so can be expected.

Also the recent storms destroyed the outside seating so even though this pub is only across the road from the sea you cannot sit and enjoy the scenery

Saying that, if you catch this pub without the drunks it can be a very pleasant experience and a good place to have a beer or two.

“Mixed Bag.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2014

Went there for lunch while staying in blackpool - Not much filling in the baguette, the baguette itself was hard and dry with no margarine or mayonnaise to disguise it. I'd say go with something else instead. The toilets are quite far from the bar area, but that could be because it is an old building.
On the upside the barman was nice and friendly.
