Really liked this hotel, although it wouldn't be hard to look good in this location as the surrounding streets are littered with run down hotels and B&B's. Had booked based on reviews here and can't disagree with much said. Location couldn't be better for the Pleasure Beach and Sandcastle Waterpark, (our reasons for visiting Blackpool). We weren't fortunate enough to get a room overlooking the Pleasure Beach; ground floor front = car park, but can't say that was a problem, in fact no need to open window as air con functioning efficiently. The room was bigger than your average and my son was most pleased with his bunk room, simple idea but great touch so you don't all feel like you are sleeping in the same room! Double bed was huge, plenty storage / hanging space, nice tv. Bathroom looked nice, but shower VERY powerful, and can't say I'm a fan of the weird toilet seat. On the first morning it became apparent some sealant was missing on the shower screen hinge and water had escaped onto the floor, also the shower screen could do with being a bit bigger in general; i'm not a large person at all but it felt a bit difficult to stop water from getting everywhere and the extractor fan did not work. All made for a bit of a steamy experience! These things don't really bother me so much, i'm only there for 2 nights but all that leaking and steam build up can't be good for the building! I did mention this when checking out so hopefully they will sort it out. Service overall was of a very good standard, staff at breakfast were particularly attentive and there was plenty of food despite a busy dining room. The only thing I would say caused us an issue was children who seemed to have been left unattended; the first night a group were charging up and down the corridor knocking on room doors at about 9.30/10pm, they only looked to be about 8 or 9 years old. A complaint was made to reception and it stopped. On the 2nd night some children appeared to have been left alone in the room above us, there was shouting, banging, jumping on beds until 1am when it seemed to calm down. I appreciate this is not the hotel's fault, but be aware there are many children staying here and I perhaps would not recommend you stay here if you haven't got children! Not in the holidays anyway or it could be a bit much. I would be happy to stay here again, and recommend for a similar type trip.

We stayed in Blackpool late June 2011 with 2 other families. We were pleasantly surprised at the standard of accommodation, our room was spacious and the bunk-beds were long enough to fit teenagers and comfortable! The boys even had their own TV! The rooms overlooked the roller coasters next door. We spent 2 night/3 days at the hotel and the food was brilliant - the staff were very helpful and answered any questions we had. We even got a recommendation for a great italian restaurant (La Fontana) in Blackpool for a night out! I would recommend this hotel to others.

I have just returned from 4 nights at The Big Blue. What a fantastic hotel! Staff were friendly, efficient and welcoming (despite a minor issue with my pre-arranged booking, which was quickly resolved). My room was large, light and very spacious with a desk/ office area, a lounge area and ample bedroom space too. A huge bath and very powerful shower with great toiletries and a good suppply of tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate/ milk and chunky biscuits.

My room had a small balcony which looked out onto the Pleasure Beach- Revolution passed right by my window, which amused me! You could hear it go past but this stopped at 8pm and was muffled by good door seals. An extremely clean hotel with modern decor and comfortable furnishings. Great nights sleep and very efficent air con, which did not crank out too much noise.

Last time I was in Blackpool we spent quite some time searching for a decent hotel and ended up in a standard, sea-side resort hotel that was shabby and tired. It was the best we could find. The Big Blue is very different- a real treat, but not overly priced, although I seem to have got a good deal.

The only minor issue is breakfast- not much of a choice of fruit and you have to pay extra for anything cooked fresh including porridge. Breakfast officially starts at 8am, which was a bit late if on business but I arrived early every day and just had the continental breakfast, which was adequate. I had evening meal here 3 times and the food was of good quality and a reasonable price. An extra £5 for room service but if this is an issue - dine in the restaurant or take a stroll down the prom and pick up fish and chips.

If I do return to Blackpool this would certainly be my only choice of hotel. Thanks!

Room Tip: Depends what you want, but if on business ask for a room with a desk/ office space.

What a great hotel!! I didn't have high expectations, but it just goes to show how flawed the rating system is! I'd spent the previous three nights in three different supposedly 4 star Barcelo hotels, and been very disappointed.

The Big Blue on the other hand under promised and over delivered. This perhaps understated hotel was truely excellent.

Big rooms, well appointed with LCD TV, sofa, fireplace, kettle and aircon! Big bathroom with quality fittings, and bath salts etc.

I'd be very happy staying here for business, and the free wifi is a bonus. I was expecting it to be noisey given its location and potential for kids, but it was actually quiet despite being very busy, so no trouble getting a good night's sleep.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Good breakfast (toaster amused me as the bread did a climb just like the start of a rollercoaster ride), and decent bar.

Plenty of parking, and free access to pleasure beach too! Nice location with the sea just over the road.

Would definitely use again.

I discovered the Big Blue hotel on trip advisor and after reading the reviews, I booked it for 2 nights straight away!

We loved the hotel from start to finish, its location is next to the pleasure beach and just over the road from the sea/beach. The receptionists and restaurant/bar staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The deluxe family room we stayed in was lovely, with plenty of room and the children had their own area with their bunkbeds, own t.v's and huge snakes and ladders game on the wall. The highlight was opening the curtains to see rollercoasters and trains whizzing past our window, brilliant!!!

Our bed was huge and the room felt extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast and evening meal were of high standard. We chose to eat in the hotel both nights. Blackpool is a little run down in places, even though it's all great fun! We found coming back to the hotel luxurious! We shall definitely be returning!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pleasure beach!

We stayed here on our 2nd wedding anniversary for 2 nights. The hotel is well located for the Pleasure Beach but about 2 miles from the main town. The rooms are modern, clean, well equipt and spacious. The breakfast was included and gave a wide choice and good quality.
Well worth staying here if you are coming to Blackpool.

First trip to Blackpool, one night. Stepped off train at Blackpool Pleasure Beach station (stop - in no way a station). Hotel a delight. Clean, efficient, staff friendly, perfect location. Value for money. The biggest bed I have slept in, the most comfortable toilet seat (I know, bizarre but worthy of note), all over good value. Ate in restaurant and whilst by no means cheap was good value for money. No complaints from adults or children.
