I stayed at the Big Blue Hotel on 21/22June 09 with my husband & 12 yr old son. We planned to arrive around lunch time on the 1st day & have a wander along the front/amusements etc, then have a full day in the pleasure beach the next day as I had used clubcard vouchers to pay for wristbands. We got to the hotel around 1.30 but were informed check in was 3pm so we had a coffee in the bar then spent the next few hours killing time around the arcades. When we got back at 5pm our room was ready & I asked if the hotel could arrange to exchange our vouchers for wristbands to avoid the park que's the next day....imagine my disappointment when i was told the pleasure beach was closed the next day!! I do accept I should have checked but feel that as the hotel is literally'in the park' they should inform people upon booking of closures-so please be warned & check before you book!!
I paid £119 for 1 night dbb,2 adults ,1 child. our room was clean with a large double bed & separate small alcove with bunk beds(with tv). the bathroom was nice, good shower but robes would be a very nice addition!
We ate in the restaurant & were allocated £20 p adult or 3 courses from the table d'hote. it was a basis table d'hote, for example only 1 veggie option-a very predictable & outdated 'vegetable lasagne',not very exciting really!!
My son ate from the childrens menu & chose a burger which looked rather aneamic & unappealing.
There were very few people in the restaurant,no music & at times it was rather uncomfortable as it was so quiet-it really lacked any atmosphere!
There is no swimming pool & the gym is very small & unimpressive.

I have stayed in better hotels in Blackpool, also some similar around the same price. The Hilton & The Imperial in the north shore are on a similar standard to this but Herons Reach De Vere is of a much better standard-lovely welcoming staff, brilliant pool, gym & classes & v.nice food-the only disadvantage is that you need a car to get into blackpool centre!!
The Big Blue Hotel is okay to use as a base just to sleep in & is in a conveniant position with free parking but it just lacks something....atmosphere,personal touch maybe?/

We stayed in the Big Blue on the weekend of 12/13 June 2009 and it was fantastic. We will most certainly be back.
It was clean, modern, well lit, with a lovely comfy bed (extra pillows if you want them) and a fantastic power shower in the bathroom which was ultra clean and had loads of shelves and space to hang things.
Breakfast was everything it should be and although we didn't have dinner there, the menus looked fantastic and we would have eaten there had we had more time to spare. The bar was comfortable, the barman friendly and helpful and it would have been easy just to have stayed there all night!
We had a room facing the Pleasure Beach and the Big One rumbled by our window every morning. Who needs an alarm clock?
Only tiny complaint was the relatively early (11am) checkout time unless you are prepared to pay another £30 to check out at 1pm - it meant no lie-in on Sunday morning for us! Other tiny complaint (for me anyway!) was the fact that there was only one mirror in the room and it was too far removed from the power points where my hairdryer and straighteners were.
All in all a super hotel in a super location with lots of ample free parking and well worth paying that little bit extra for.

Stayed one night on 13th June - 2 adults and 2 children aged 13 and 11.

We arrived at 10.30am at the hotel (the hotel has it's own car park - very handy), and although we couldn't check into our room until 3pm, reception issued our pre-booked wristbands so that we could walk straight in to the Pleasure Beach and start our day early.

I'd just like to briefly say that we've been visiting Blackpool and the Pleasure Beach for years now and we were very impressed with the new Bean Street eating areas and water fountain feature (fantastic fun - bring spare/dry clothes!). In addition, there were lots of lovely hanging baskets (with real flowers!) and small green landscaped gardens. There are even Champagne and Oyster Bars - very cosmopolitan! We had chocolate sundaes at the Ice Lounge where you can also get Starbucks coffee. A lot of work has obviously been done on maintenance this winter and everywhere looks freshly decked and painted. The new Infusion ride was brilliant too although be prepared for long queues as the day progresses. We managed to cram in 17 rides (including 3 rides on The Big One!) in one day and felt that the price paid for our wristbands was money well spent.

Anyway, about the hotel.... We stayed in room 234 which is a family room on the second floor overlooking the Pleasure Beach. The room was lovely - very modern, quite spacious, and the kids thought their own little bunk room just off the hall as you walk in was great. They each had their own light, small TV and giant snakes and ladders game on the wall (or Rides and Slides as it has been cleverly adapted to!)

We even had a DVD player and films could be hired from reception for £4 per night plus a £10 refundable deposit (they had quite a good selection). We could also have borrowed a free PSP 2 machine and games could also be hired for those. There was a sofa bed next to our double bed and the kids lay on that while they watched the DVDs. The kids thought it was great that the Big Dipper and the Big One thundered past the window every few minutes (okay when the park shuts at 6pm - might be a problem for some when the park is open late!) The bathroom was also clean and modern with nice lighting and a great shower. The one and only downside was that we like the window open at night and there was a sign on ours saying 'Do not try to open this window'. In fact you couldn't anyway because all mechanical means of doing so had been removed. I suspect there was an aircon switch somewhere but hadn't sussed where it was before lights out! As the name says, this is a Big hotel and our room was a good few minutes walk from reception.

The reception area looks quite classy with big comfy leather chairs and bowls of fresh apples and flowers around (there's an ATM just off reception if you need some cash). The staff were very friendly and were happy to chat to the children about their day on the rides. The bar and social areas at the hotel are also well laid out, especially if you're with a family group - great atmosphere! There's also a nice outside seating area too if the weather is warm.

We ate in the hotel restaurant and it really was excellent. I had the chef's special - fresh tuna over spicy stir fried vegetables and my husband had a steak which he said was perfect. The children had pizzas (there is a separate kids/junior menu). Puddings were delicious too and we all gave it 10/10.

There is a gym at the hotel, although we didn't use it.

Breakfast was lovely - I don't know what people find to whine about... It was buffet style and there was a choice of yogurt and fruit, full cooked English, cereals, pastries and good old coffee and toast.

Overall we had a fanstastic stay and definitely plan a return visit with friends and family. Our kids have outgrown the Alton Towers Hotel now and this provides a perfect (and cheaper!) alternative especially for families with teenagers. If the park continues to update and upgrade at the rate it has done in recent times, it will certainly be giving the Theme Parks a run for their money.

This was the second time that we have stayed at The Big Blue hotel Blackpool, and again we were happy with the hotel. This hotel is in a great position at the south end of Blackpool pleasure beech for anybody wishing to visit the pleasure beech. There is a tram stop directly opposite the hotel. We used the tram to get to the centre of Blackpool to see a show. There is a lot of building work being carried to improve the seafront promenade but you are still able to walk along the front. Our room was very clean and tidy and appeared to have been recently decorated. Generally the hotel is very smart and in good condition. We ate in the restaurant several times and thought it was excellent. The hotel is at the quieter end of Blackpool which suited us.

So glad paid a bit more to stay in this place, wouldnt have wanted to stay in most of the others that i saw but this place is modern, clean and new and in a great location next to pleasure beach and waterpark.

Food was excellent but a bit pricey compared to others as was the bar prices but overall didnt mind as the hotel was so nice. The rooms was fine and had a small area with mini bunks if you had two small kids which was a neat and novel idea. Dont know if i would fancy staying there in the school holidays there as might be a bit too noisy and too many kids! Alot wasnt open around when we were there but it didnt matter as it was so easy to get on a tram or bus to the other parts.

def would recommend people to stay here and would stay again

Found the hotel by chance as the one we booked was appalling. Receptionist was very helpful, got us into a room early. Deluxe room, spacious, clean, modern feel. Good bathroom, nice power shower, fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries, even the shower cap was replaced after use. Breakfast was well presented, plenty of choice, cooked food was hot and tasty. Needed to get there before 9am if you didn't want to queue for a seat. Evening meal in restaurant wasn't cheap but good quality. Table d'hote could have offered more choice as it (and the chef's special) didn't change over the three days we were there. Overall a good positive experience, I would use this hotel again.
