“A Hidden Gem - Loved it”

Myself and a friend decided on Friday morning that we wanted to go to Blackpook for the weekend. We go quite often and have stayed in numerous hotels and B&B's a different price ranges and different locations and I can honestly say that the Big Blue Hotel is by far the best we have stayed in over 10 years of visiting the resort.

I have no doubts that we struck lucky and got an incredibly cheap deal of £30 each for the night. I've since been back on the site to check prices for future visits and can see that it is nomally a bit more expensive than this for a stay - I think it is totally worth it though.

We had never even heard of this hotel and took a while to find it (Underneath the Pleasure Beach) but once we did find it we were very impressed. The reception and bar area are decorated very well and feel very homely and welcoming. The rooms themseleves are exactly what you would expect from an mid range boutique hotel and I have to say, I have stayed in hotels of a very similar standard and paid a whole lot more.

As we were a late booking, I think we got whatever room was available and ended up in a family room. This was fine as the bed was king sized so even though me and my friend had to share the bed, it felt like we had seperates. The childrens area in the room was fantastic (And I don't even have kids!) It's in a seperate area of the room and is decorated completely different from the rest of the room which is brilliant as I don't really think children appreciate subtle earth tones and cream. The area had bunk beds, each with it's own TV and a giant snakes and ladders board. Given that some of the rooms have The Big One by the windows, this would be a real treat for children and would probably be appreciated by adults as the rooms are designed to keep the children entertained and to give them (And adults) their own space.

I've mentioned that the hotel is right by the pleasure beach, if you're worried about noise then don't. The room we stayed in faced the Car Park and a busy street and we weren't bothered by any noise at all.

I would recommend this hotel to people of all ages, the bar is comfotable and relaxing for adults and the location is brilliant for a family break.

It's nice to see a Blackpool hotel finally competing to the same high standard as similar hotels in other resorts. A lot of hotels and B&B's in the area will charge you what they want, and treat you how they want - basically because they can.

We stayed at the Big Blue Hotel last weekend and had a fantastic time in Blackpool. We were travelling with my partner's daughter, aged 6 and this hotel more than met our expectations.

We selected a family room to stay in which was very spacious. As well as our own massive double bed, there was a separate alcove area within the room which contained bunk beds for children to sleep in. My partner's daughter was thrilled that there was an individual TV for both bunks and that she got a special area all to herself. There was also a giant "snakes and ladders" board on the wall to keep her entertained.

The hotel is modern and is the ideal base to explore Blackpool for the weekend. Situated next to the Pleasure Beach, some rooms do overlook the "big one" rollercoaster, however I can't comment on the noise of this as we stayed at the opposite side of the hotel. You are able to buy wristbands for the pleasure beach from the hotel reception, or alternatively one of the park entrances is right next door.

Breaksfast each morning was buffet style with a good selection of cereals, fruit and cooked items. We had to wait 5 minutes each morning for a table, but the staff do their best to find you one as quickly as possible.

Whilst we may have paid slightly more for a room than some of the other hotels charge in this area, we were really pleased that we chose the Big Blue hotel, as it was the perfect place for our family getaway.

I would also highly recommend young families visiting Blackpool Tower for the day. We spent a full day in there and never realised there were so many things to see and do. As well as visiting the top of the Tower and doing the "walk of faith", we saw the Ballroom, 3D cinema, Jungle Jims play area and a fantastic magic show. It really was a good day out.

Well when I found out I was having to go to Balackpool on a jaunt; I wasn't impressed; but the hotel was good.
My wife booked this best western hote; I was pleasantly suprised, the staff were pleasant, the executive room was very well furnished. Oh and the best location in the town!

Booked through Pleasurebeach holidays website. 2 nights B&B for a family room inc. 4 wristbands was £279 for the weekend of the Illuminations switch-on. Arrived at 2.30 but our room was ready (3pm check-in).

Hotel has free parking and we left the car until we checked out. There is a tram stop opposite the hotel. We had a sea view and the room was quiet. Large comfortable bed, TV, DVD, bathroom with shower over the bath. Plenty of towels etc. Extractor didn't work in the bathroom though. The kids had short bunk beds with a TV at each level. OK if your kids are not too tall or older. A snakes and ladders board is on the wall and you can hire game stations.

We did not have dinner there but we had room service one night, as after 11 pm they just do sandwiches and pizza, but the food was good. The first day we went down to breakfast about 9.15 and got straight in. Full english, cereals, muffins, croissants, toast, juice etc. We didn't need lunch. The second day we were late getting up and had to queue.

There is a gym but didn't have time to go in. The hotel is right next door to the south entrance of the Pleasure Beach. We went in about 10.40 am when it was just opening up. It was busier in the afternoon. I think it closes by 10 pm so it's not noisy usually.

The staff were very helpful. We had good weather so spent most of it out of the hotel but I would definitely go back as there is a lot to see in Blackpool and would hopefully get to spend more time in the hotel!

  • Liked — Comfortable bed
  • Disliked — The bathroom extractor didn't work and the bathroom door was difficult to lock

This hotel is by far one of the best in Blackpool, if not the BEST! We booked an Executive Double with separate Lounge area and feature fireplace. Breakfast is very good also, but gets very busy during peak times. Very modern contemporary atmosphere with wonderful restaurant and bar. Would definately stay again, it was our second stay at the Big Blue and would recommend it to any family or couple.

We have just returned from a family weekend in Blackpool and I was not that impressed with this hotel. It may call itself the best hotel in Blackpool but it would not last anywhere else, and it is certainly not a boutique hotel. Whilst the communual areas are nice the rooms reminded me of a travel lodge. Cheap fixtures and fittings throughout. The bathroom had a musty smell, scuffed lino flooring, the seal around the bath was going black and the grouting was discoloured. The wait for breakfast in the morning was 20÷mins for cheap fried food, tinned fruit, carton juice and coffee from a vending machine. The childrens bunks are very cramped, a bit of a squeeze if you are over 8 years old. On the plus side it was clean and the beds were comfortable but this hotel is pretending to be something it is not. It is not a boutique hotel it is average!

Me and my sister stayed here with our 2 boys, 3 & 6 yrs.
We stayed in a family room. The kids had bunk beds in a seperate section to the room.
Because our children are still small they could fit in the bunkbeds easily , but if children are 10 yrs + they wouldnt fit in them, as they are really small bunks.
The consoles weren't in the room.
You have to get them from reception. Games are £3.50 each plus a £20 refundable deposit for every game hired.
We booked the room in march, and booked the VIP Package which was well worth it.
We got a 3 course meal (v,v nice) and a bottle of wine , The kids got a 2 course meal, which was all included in the package (plus 4 x pleasure beach wristbands)
We also had a lovely boquet of flowers waiting for us in our room.

Do not try and check in before 3pm as you will be refused.
Breakfast was lovely the next day but we had too wait approx 20 mins to be allocated a table. Which was standard procedure.

It was well worth the money staying at this hotel. I cant wait to return.

  • Liked — Everything,, Especially the kids having bunkbeds.
  • Disliked — Bathroom was abit smelly
